Today, Falcon Pro got a nice update to version 1.9. Inside, you will find a brand new font (although it’s still Roboto-based), position holding for lists, and the awesome option to set the action bar on the bottom of the display. Along with the new features, there were some bugs that needed squashing, including the one where the DashClock extension wasn’t refreshing. Consider it now squashed.

Falcon Pro has become a dominant 3rd party Twitter app and you still haven’t picked it up, you should do so soon.

What’s New:

Sexy font (still Roboto based)

Position holding in Lists

Load up to 1000 tweets / refresh

Option to set the action bar on the bottom. Good for large screens.

Load older tweets

Inline Droplr previews

Option to set a different refresh rate for mentions/interactions

Options to control cache

Let us know if you are using Falcon Pro or still can’t give up the stock Twitter app.

Ready to start tweeting from Google Glass? Yesterday, a tweet was spotted that has since been deleted, coupled with the label “Twitter for Glass.” Once news got out, the account was deleted, making it quite possible that no one was supposed to see it.

Adding to the fun, the Twitter account @Mogrooth (minus the Muddler), belongs to a mobile engineering manager at Twitter, Shiv Ramamurthi. Additionally, 3rd party app developers cannot use the word Twitter in the labels, so the fact that “Twitter” is used in Twitter for Glass lends more credibility to the story.

Twitter made their new music service official this morning with an announcement and then release on…iOS. As you can tell, and should be no surprise if you look at Vine, Twitter still doesn’t realize that Android is just as, if not more important than iOS in the mobile game these days. Then again, with iOS you don’t have as many devices to develop for and should be easier to launch with, but I digress.

So what is Twitter’s #music app? According to Twitter the new service (app) “uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists.” It also “brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center,” so that you can get directly into artist profiles, find their songs for listening, see their top song, and then Tweet about it all. If you want to find music that your friends are enjoying at the moment or may interest you, you can cruise to #NowPlaying to see a list.

As I mentioned earlier, the service is available as an app for iOS, but a web client is also available now at music.twitter.com. It will eventually launch on Android, but Twitter did not provide a date.

Your social network isn’t worth any salt these days unless you can share what music you are listening to with all your friends. Rumor has it that Twitter is looking to right this wrong by releasing a new music application that will work side-by-side with your timeline. There have been plenty of rumors surrounding this app, but don’t worry, Ryan Seacrest can verify its existence for us.

All Things D is reporting that we should be seeing this new application as soon as this weekend. According to their sources, the service “suggests artists and tracks to users based on a number of personalized signals.” Users will even be able to listen to music inside the app through third party services and watch videos from Vevo.

Coachella, the huge music festival in California, kicks is this weekend, so it would make sense for them to be on the edge of the music news with their new app. Earlier this week, Twitter announced that they have acquired the music recommendation service We Are Hunted which seems to add to this weekend’s timing.

We don’t know much about this new application, but Ryan Seacrest sure does. Seacrest’s twitter says that the app is all about finding trending artists and being able to play their music from within the app. Expect to find music videos and other features when it launches sometime soon.

Update: Twitter Music is live at music.twitter.com, but it’s showing as “invitation only.”

Today, it was announced that Twitter-owned TweetDeck will be re-focusing and doubling their efforts on web applications and their highly popular Chrome app. In doing so, the Android and iOS versions of this client are being discontinued and completely removed from their respective stores starting in May. This ties in with the retirement of Twitter’s v1.0 API which TweetDeck has spoken of before.

Below are two snippets from TweetDeck’s full blog post on the upcoming shutdown.

To continue to offer a great product that addresses your unique needs, we’re going to focus our development efforts on our modern, web-based versions of TweetDeck. To that end, we are discontinuing support for our older apps: TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone. They will be removed from their respective app stores in early May and will stop functioning shortly thereafter. We’ll also discontinue support for our Facebook integration.

Additionally, TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone rely on v1.0 of Twitter’s API, which we are retiring starting this month. Leading up to that retirement, Twitter’s platform team will be performing occasional tests that will affect applications that rely on API v1.0. Over the next two months users of TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone may experience some outages with those apps before they are removed from their respective app stores in early May.

Will anyone be sad to see it go?

One of the best and most loved Twitter applications, Falcon Pro, has recently hit the 100,000 user mark that Twitter is enforcing on third-party applications. The developer has pleaded with Twitter to lift the limit and got a response of “no.” He has been trying to work around the problem within the past week. With the update rolling out today, a band-aid has been applied to the problem, but not a fix.

Taking to his Google+ page, Falcon Pro’s developer, Joaquim Verges explained how the update will work for everyone. For users who purchased the app already the process is easy:

After updating, you will be prompted to re-login. This process is quick and should only take you a minute. All your settings, mutes, starred users, etc. will be saved. During the login, the app will check for your Google Play licence.

This also will help solve the problem that Falcon has run into with people pirating the app. Users who sideloaded the app should see their feed stop working within the next 24-48 hours. People who haven’t gotten in on this great Twitter app yet will have to shell out a bit more, the price has been raised to $1.95. This is to try and keep new numbers down so that the 100,000 limit isn’t reached as quickly again.

You may want to hurry and refresh your token as soon as the update is live with Twitter’s limit looming. We’ll try to update this post as soon as that happens.

Update: The update is live. Go get it and re-login!

Back in August, Twitter decided that third party clients that replicate its core features (home timeline, direct messages, etc.) were not necessarily great for business going forward. As a business that has a mega-value yet can’t seem to figure out that whole profitability thing, they decided that maybe apps that were being used in place of their official were part of the problem. As such, they set a 100,000 limit for the number of tokens (sort of like an individual user) that can be allotted to 3rd party apps. Unfortunately for upstarts like our beloved Falcon Pro, that limit can be reached quite easily. In fact, last night, Falcon Pro hit their 100K token limit and can no longer add new users.

You can imagine how this could put quite the damper on development for an app that is just getting started. Users who buy the app are left without the ability to actually sign-in, which in turn leads to poor reviews, complaints about the dev, a need for refunds, and so fourth. For now, the developer has added a note to the app listing, so that people aren’t buying it going forward. Obviously, this doesn’t work long term, especially for someone trying to make a living off of their app.

So until they can figure out a way to convince Twitter that their app offers something unique and does not simply copy the core values of Twitter, they can’t get this 100K limit lifted and are stuck in a very difficult place.

Oh, did we mention that of the 100K, that 40K are active installs, which means a whole bunch were taken by people who either pirated the app or installed, took a token and then never opened it again? If you aren’t using the app, you’ll find instructions down below to revoke access, something you should seriously consider if Falcon isn’t your Twitter app of choice.

Falcon Pro is not the first to have this happen. Tweet Lanes, another popular Android Twitter client decided to cut development once they realized that they could not move passed the 100K limit. Popular Windows 8 app Tweetro hit the limit and was unable to have it lifted, even though Twitter doesn’t even offer a Twitter client on Windows 8.

So what can you do? Well, a couple of things.

If you aren’t using Falcon Pro, GIVE UP YOUR TOKEN. From a PC browser, head to Twitter.com and select Settings>Apps, find Falcon Pro and “Revoke Access” to the app. That should free up a token that you aren’t using for someone else.

If you flash ROMs with regularity, be careful. There are reports that after flashing, you are left without access. Titanium Backups of the app may still work, though.

A petition has been started, though I’m not sure what it can do. Here it is.

Follow @falcon_android for the latest.

Cheers Lake and Brendon!

Since we first reported on DashClock, the lock screen widget application from Android engineer Roman Nurik, the app has become somewhat of an international sensation. Most of us, even after a week with it, still can’t seem to get enough of it. The app’s growing feature list and set of extensions from 3rd party developers has made it the ultimate widget for your Android 4.2 lock screen.

In a recent update that was released over the weekend, Nurik gave users the ability to control the transparency of the widget when on a home screen, center the clock (so that it’s no longer off-centered), and customize the shortcuts for both clock and weather, all of which were highly recommended features.

But on a related note, the flood of extensions for the app from other developers, has kicked into overdrive. As of this posting, we’re seeing extensions for Plume, a popular Twitter app, Facebook, dialer shortcuts, contact shortcuts, and a shortcut to WhatsApp.

Today, Twitter is releasing an update to their official Android application which brings improvements to their already decent Discovery and Search features. From now on, all tweets, trends, and activity will appear in a single stream for easy use. Furthermore, when searching, all relevant results (photos, tweets, etc.) will also appear in a single stream. Looks like someone at Twitter had a light bulb go off over their head.

To peep the full feature changelog, look below.

Discover: Now all the content in Discover — Tweets, Activity, Trends and suggestions of accounts to follow — appears in a single stream, on both iPhone and Android. You can also dive into Activity and Trends from new previews at the top of the Discover tab.

Search: Search results now surface the most relevant mix of Tweets, photos, and accounts, all in one stream (similar to the stream in Discover). We’ve also added a new search button to Twitter for iPhone, letting you search from anywhere within the app. (This button was already available in the Android and iPad apps.) Look for the magnifying glass icon next to the button you use to compose a Tweet.

Connect: To provide a simpler experience in the Connect tab, the default view is now Interactions, which shows you new followers, retweets and mentions. If you prefer to view only your mentions in Connect, you can adjust the default in settings – find the “Connect tab” option and select “Mentions only”.

Links: Click a URL in a Tweet to go directly to that website from any timeline and get to content highlighted on Twitter faster. (Previously, when you tapped any part of a Tweet, it would first expand and then a second click was required to get to the website.)

The update doesn’t appear to be live yet, but it will be soon.
