Wood fiends who own a Galaxy S5 can finally get their fix, thanks to the latest release from Portland, OR-based company, Toast. We have talked about this company plenty of times (and have held giveaways), posted up a complete inside look into their factory here in Portland, and just yesterday, they released their newest creation – hand-made wood covers for Samsung’s latest flagship device, the Galaxy S5. The Toast wood cover company in Portland, OR is hard at work, trying to make more cases available for a variety of different devices. The newest case to be made is available is for the Moto G, which is actually Motorola’s most successful device of all time according to the Illinois-based manufacturer. Toast wood covers are 100% made in the United States, with a very small portion of materials (Ebony and Bamboo wood) coming from overseas.
The cases start out at just $25, with four different wood options to choose from – Walnut, Ash, Bamboo, and Ebony. Front wood covers are also sold separately for an additional $10. Buyers can choose to have custom text added to their design, priced at $5. (more…)
These covers are made right here in the US of A, in the wet and wild area of Portland, Oregon. Toast covers are essentially a “sticker” made of real wood on the outside, with extremely sticky 3M adhesive on the inside. Once applied to your device, the cover isn’t going anywhere. Unlike the wood backs you would get on Moto X, the wood on these covers is less treated, meaning you will be feeling your wood grain for days after applying, and they age great. If you watch any American Pickers, you’d know it’s all about the patina.
The wood itself is harvested on the East coast, with the exception of the Bamboo and Ebony options, which are brought from overseas. If you seriously haven’t seen our factory tour yet or hands-on video, then we highly recommend you go do so. (more…)
After posting that the Toast wood cover for the Nexus 5 had gone live, we saw a lot of requests for a hands-on tour, so here it is. The cover is made of Walnut which is harvested in the good ol’ US of A, which is then cut, packaged, and shipped right from Portland, OR. We were able to spend some time inside the Toast facility a bit ago, so be sure to check out our tour right here. (more…)
These days, the “Made in the USA” label seems harder and harder to come by, especially in the consumer electronic accessories industry. The fact is, it is much cheaper to outsource production of phone cases to countries outside of America, given that the cost of materials is lower and so are employee wages. One local company that has taken this issue to heart is Toast, a cover manufacturer that builds and ships out their wood skins from wet and gloomy Portland, Oregon. (more…)
