US Cellular announced its own version of shared data plans this morning, joining Verizon and AT&T in one of the most often criticized new wireless trends of the last couple of years. As with the others, US Cellular claims that having giant pots of data that can be shared between family members and employees is much easier to manage. Of course, no one was actually asking for this type of easy management until the industry took unlimited data away from us all and realized that they could bank off of GBs just like they once did with minute and text overages.  (more…)

We’re still semi-waiting to see what the aftermath of this past weekend’s unlimited upgrade party on Verizon will be, but wanted to update you on current information. For those who did not choose in-store pickup (decided to have phones shipped) and finalize everything before yesterday afternoon when Verizon patched up what we can only assume was a glitch in the system, we are just now starting to see confirmation and shipping notices go out. At this point, we’re hearing about a couple of situations that you should pay close attention to.  (more…)

Verizon Appears to Have Closed the Unlimited Data Keeping Extravaganza

Well, our weekend of upgrades with unlimited data appears to have come to a close. Within the last hour, we received word that Verizon systems in stores were no longer allowing reps to select unlimited data packages as options during upgrades. We are also now being forced off of unlimited data while walking through the upgrade process online that previously left our current plans intact. Was fun while it lasted.

We left a question mark on that title because we’re not exactly sure if Verizon has meant to allow customers to keep unlimited data when upgrading or if there is simply a glitch in the system. But yes, at this time, a number of our readers (including us) have been able to walk-through the upgrade process on Verizon’s site and keep unlimited data while purchasing a phone at a subsidized (discounted) price.

The deal, which Verizon hasn’t exactly announced or promoted publicly, is live as expected for those with unlimited data.  (more…)

Earlier this morning, we broke news on a new Verizon plan that will be introduced in the coming days called Verizon Max. At the time, we didn’t have all of the details ironed out, but after talking to sources of ours, think we know almost everything there is to know about a new tiered data plan aimed directly at unlimited customers.  (more…)

Is Verizon Planning a 6GB for $30 Promo to Get Unlimited Data Users to Switch to Share Everything? (Updated)

Yesterday, a reader of ours pointed out a Tweet sent from the official Verizon Support Twitter account (@VZWSupport) that caught our eye as it related to those of us holding on to unlimited data. The Tweet mentioned to a customer that Verizon would soon be launching a promo for unlimited data users that included 6GB of data for only $30, and would also allow them to participate in Big Red’s new VZ Edge (early upgrade) program. We scrolled through hundreds of other Tweets from this account, but this was the only mention of such a deal. We even tried getting them to provide more info, yet they never responded. Sure enough this morning, the Tweet (which we have included below) has been removed from existence.

So what’s going on and what is this new promo? Well, we know a couple of things.  (more…)
