Paul, aka “RaidZero” is a good friend and we are always on top of his work. Lately, he has been dabbling into the dark arts of Android theme making, and so far, we are loving it. His first creation for the masses is entitled RZ Blue NRG, and it is a serious contender against all the other themes out there. With hints of honeycomb, and some insanely cool glowing icons and menus, it is the theme to carry you into the next year. If you are on CM7, or have a ROM which allows for the Theme Manager, check this out. 

We don’t even have to go into much detail when trying to explain the theme. Just check out the gallery, and if you like the glowing as much as we do, then give it a go. Modestly priced in the Android Market for only $0.99. In addition to this theme, might we also suggest Tha Shock by KovDev for the icons which go together like peas and carrots.

Note: For those that ask about the clock widget, it is Beautiful Widgets which is an Android classic. And if you are looking for a good wallpaper: check these out.

Custom Theme Monday: RZ Blue NRG By RaidZero is a post from: Droid Life

MIUI is one of the few complete UI changes you can make to your Android device. It’s a ROM that once installed, switches up the entire OS, making it mostly look like iOS in our opinion, but one that has been incredibly popular. It made its first big splash back in September 2010, so we’re excited to see the improvements that the MIUI team will unveil next week to this already clean and completely smooth/working ROM. 

MIUI is available for most devices, and from their site you can see if a developer has ported it to your phone. In most cases, if your phone has root, then you can enjoy some MIUI love. Anyone here using it already? If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go.

Animated notification pulldown menus…could this be the next big thing to obsess over in ROM and theme development?  We’re not 100% sure on that, but after seeing just a couple of them already in action, the ideas are starting to float through our brains.  DF forum member Alastrionia deserves credit for figuring this out by tweaking the systemui.apk, but now we look to our favorite themers (@bgill55 and @jsinlegacy) and ROM developers (@jrummy16 and @bigxie) to find creative ways to make this look extra hot.

What do you guys think – is this hokey or could it be brilliant?

Animated Notification Pulldowns Coming to a ROM and Theme Near You? is a post from: Droid Life

We’ve featured WidgetLocker on DL a couple of times now, but had yet to really dive into the theming side of this lock screen replacement app.  Then today happened and we stumbled onto an XDA thread that has been compiling beautiful lock screen themes for almost 2 months now.  I’ve featured 3 of them above, but trust me when I say that this doesn’t even touch on the 70+ variations of custom sliders that you can sample from.  For those of you into the minimalistic lifestyle, this would be your goldmine.

Instructions:

1.  To install these, simply download the file to your phone and move it into:

Our boy Fede released a new skinning engine for LauncherPro today that will allow some of our favorite themers to attack widgets and make them beautiful without requiring you to install a whole new version of the app.  The hope is to launch the full version in the market Monday (or so), but themers can get to work now so that we can enjoy some fabulous skins ahead of time.

I should also point out that this will allow you to set different skins for each of your LP widgets, so you are not just stuck with one particular theme.  Nice, right? +1 Fede.

Here are the dirty details of this new engine:

• (Almost) All of the graphics you see on the widgets will be skinnable. That includes header background, the shadow below the header, the widget body background, the footer background, refresh icon, buttons (for example, the Timeline/Mentions/DM buttons on the Twitter widget), etc.
• Most backgrounds should be 9-patch images
• Most clickable images, like buttons and the footer (refresh bar) should have two states; normal and pressed. When the user presses the button/image, it will change to the pressed graphic.
• You’ll be able to change the color of any text elements on the widgets.
• Changing text sizes might not make it into the first SDK, but will definitely come in future updates.
• More fine-tuning options like changing element positions and dimensions will also come in future updates. This first release should provide enough customization to create some cool skins.

LauncherPro Releases Skinning Engine, Beta Version of App Available Now is a post from: Droid Life

Not a fan of the new blue MotorBlur that was introduced in the leaked Gingerbread?  How does having the stock black and green theme from real Android 2.3 sound?  We’re talking black menus, black menu bar, GB keyboard, etc.; the way it was supposed to look.  Thanks to brenneisec over at MDW, we have just that.

Instructions:

1.  You have to be rooted and running Gingerbread on your DROIDX.
2.  Download the file from above and drop it on your SD card.
3.  Boot into recovery and MAKE A BACKUP.
4.  Mount System, then flash the file.
5.  Enjoy!

If you want to revert back to the blue theme, you really need to make a backup.

Been a while since we took a day to let everyone show off the beauty that is their personalized home screen.  And since a lot of you are rockin’ out with a new HTC Thunderbolt, we figured that you’ve probably had to change up that look a little.  We also have a variety of new themes in the wild for the DX/D2 and OG, so let’s show them off!

If you missed out the last time we did this, here are the basic guidelines:

1. Take screenshots of as many of your screens as you’d like using apps like drocap2 or ShootMe if you are rooted.  Follow these instructions to take them using the Android SDK if not rooted.
2. Upload your screenshots to an image hosting site like dropbox, Imgur or Tinypic.  Paste the URLs to the images in the comments to allow everyone to see the images as click-able thumbnails.
3. Comment on and “like” your favorites.

With your shots, list out some, all or more of the following info:

1. Device (D1, D2, Incredible, DX, etc.)
2. Current launcher
3. Special wallpapers, widgets, icons
4. Custom ROM if you are running one.

My screens:

1. Left: DROIDX | Right: Thunderbolt
2. Stock launchers on both; Sense on the TBolt
3. OreoSlice wallpaper pack on both, CircleLauncher, Circle Battery Widget, SimiClock on DX, BobClock on TBolt.
4. Liberty 1.5 on DX.  rEVOlution skin on TBolt.

Earlier today we brought you a new pink Droid Life-inspired theme, but since we know that not everyone is the biggest salmon fan, how about another option?  Theming gurus droidzforlife and bassdj has created something  that might be a true masterpiece called OreoSlice. And while they are claiming that it’s not quite finished, I don’t care and neither should you.  This theme is insanely good and anyone out there running Liberty 1.5 on their DROID X or DROID 2, might want to grab this one.

The download seems huge, but that’s because he tossed in a ton of black and white wallpapers for you to choose from.  Seriously, applaud these two.

Note:  The transparent market is ridiculous… 

Download:  OreoSlice_Liberty[Almost_Done].zip [mirror]

1.  You need to be running Liberty ROM 1.5.  (DROID X or 2)
2.  Download the file from above and drop it on your SD card.
3.  Reboot into recovery and make a backup.
4.  [Might be able to skip this step] Then “mount system” and “install zip from sd card.”
5.  Choose the OreoSlice.zip and install.
6.  Enjoy!

For those of you running the official 2.3.340 update for the Droid X and want to have a theme to get you as far away from that awful Blur skin as possible, then this is the post for you.  XDA member waremike32 released 3 themes to fit over top of a stock rooted DX and one of them will take you into the wonderful world of Gingerbread.  The instructions are fairly simple, but we’ll lay them out for those of you new to the game after the break.  

Download:  Stock Deodexed 2.3.340

Download:  Gingerbread Theme

Instructions:

1.  Download both files from above and drop them on your SD card.
2.  Root your phone using z4root.  (Instructions)
3.  Bootstrap your recovery using Koush’s DX Bootstrap.
4.  Boot into Clockwork recovery using the bootstrap app.
5.  Once your phone boots to Clockwork Recovery, scroll down to “backup and restore.”
6.  Choose “backup” to make a clean backup of your phone.

*DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.

7.  When that finishes choose “install zip from SD card.”
8.  Choose the 2.3.340Deodex.zip you downloaded from above to install a deodexed ROM.
9.  When that finishes go back into “install zip from SDcard.”
10.  Choose the GingerBreadDX.zip file that you downloaded from above and install it.
11.  Back out of recovery, reboot your phone and enjoy Gingerbread!

Since TRON opened to mass audiences this weekend, we thought we’d celebrate it with a theme for anyone running RubiX 1.9.0 on their Droid X.  I’m a little surprised that it only pulled in $43M in its opening weekend, but we’re still down to have some fun with it.  So, themer extraodinaire RoLa put this theme together and as always, left little untouched.

Instructions:

*Droid X running RubiX Focused 1.9.0 only!

1.  Download the TronX1.0.zip from above and drop it on your SD card.
2.  You need to run Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery.
3.  Open the DX Bootstrap and “boostrap” the recovery.
4.  When that finishes, “reboot recovery.”
5.  Once your phone boots to Clockwork Recovery, scroll down to “backup and restore.”
6.  Choose “backup” to make a clean backup of your phone.
7.  When that finishes choose “install zip from SD card.”
8.  Then “choose zip from SD card” and find the TronX1.0.zip , select it and hit “yes.”
9.   Your phone will apply the theme.  When it finishes, reboot and enjoy!

DROID X Theme: TRON for RubiX Focused 1.9.0 is a post from: Droid Life

Earlier this week we posted about the new MIUI ROM taking a liking to our home, and becoming a family member. Well what really puts the Prunus Avium on top is the fact that there’s so many themes for it. And switching them? That’s even easier!

After the jump, I will walk you through downloading this pack and applying them to the ROM.
Let’s have some fun!

This is for OG DROID only…all else, beware!

Firstly, you’re going to need the newest MIUI (instructions). After installing that, proceed to these steps:

1. Download this zip file containing all MIUI themes. Download Here
2. Open up the zip and place all theme.zip’s in sdcard/MIUI/theme
3. Open up “Theme Manager” application and have some fun!

You don’t even need to use recovery or anything. It’s that simple!
So enjoy and have a great weekend!

DROID X Theme: Xpired by Rola and JsinLegacy is a post from: Droid Life

Following up with the OG Droid theme of the week comes Olive Burst for the Droid X, brought to you by the Icognito Team of JsinLegacy and Bgill55 who we seem to be featuring almost weekly.  (Time for some new themers to step their game up?)  These are the guys that created Invertnito which to this day, is one of our all time favs.  Olive Burst is similar in simplicity plus complexity and is pure soothing magic.

We are running this on top of rubiX Blurry V0.3 which I highly recommend.

*We ran this over top of Rubix V0.3 from ROM Manager.
