From what we can see, either you love the idea of NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD or find it to be the biggest waste of resources ever. According to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Product Manager’s recent comments, I think we know where they stand on that one.

In a recent chat with The Verge, Raj Tulluri said that these devices will find a way to come out to market on their own, which gives Qualcomm little reason to compete with their customers in the hardware-making game. In essence, he feels that they would be stealing business from themselves if they made a rival to Project SHIELD.

According to Pacific Crest analyst Michael McConnell, the next version of the Nexus 7 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ8064) processor instead of NVIDIA’s next-gen Tegra 4. Because of Qualcomm’s tighter integration with modem technology, McConnell figures that a Snapdragon chip will simplify the supply and essentially lower costs.

Last night on the Droid Life Show, we talked about Chromebooks and why people might be hesitant about diving head first into the platform. One of the main complaints was the lack of power to do work that other, more beefy laptops could. However, it seems that Google plans on packing a bit more punch in an upcoming rumored Chromebook. Chrome Story found hints of a new Chromebook in the code base today that looks to use the Tegra 4 processor.

In a recent report from DigiTimes, it looks like NVIDIA is having a hard time convincing tablet and smartphone makers to use their new and still unreleased Tegra 4 processor in upcoming devices. Apparently, Toshiba is the first and only adopter of the new Tegra 4, who will feature the chip in tablets that could debut in July. With stiff competition coming from Qualcomm and Samsung, NVIDIA is looking at other ways of selling and getting these new Tegra 4′s out of the door, even if they don’t have big name support from the likes of HTC and ASUS.

NVIDIA

Juicy rumor time, folks. According to Russian tech site, Mobile Review, NVIDIA has major plans for 2013 that go way beyond that of Project SHIELD and Tegra 4. Apparently, NVIDIA is currently looking to work with local and regional hardware manufacturers to get themselves directly into designing and making devices. The process is called white-labeling and it’s nothing new in the industry. As a quick reference, one company makes the product, then another slaps their logo/name on it and calls it their own, saving the expenses of investing in the necessary infrastructure.
