This early morning, an epic game by the name of Ravensword: Shadowlands arrived on Google Play. The game is an RPG, but brings one of the largest and most immersive worlds to mobile devices ever seen. In the game, you play as a hero who must find powerful weapons, collect rare items, and basically solve the mysteries and beat the baddies.

Features:

Enormous 3d world to explore

First Person and 3rd Person on the fly switching

Gorgeous and realistic scenery

Ragdoll Physics

Hundreds of items to use

Reflex and precision based combat with manual blocking and dodging

Flying Mounts

Tons of enemy types including huge prehistoric creatures. (including massive T-Rex’s)

It costs a whopping $7, but you will be happy to know it works on my full list of devices, which is rather extensive, so you shouldn’t run into any compatibility issues. Go enjoy yourself.

At the 2013 CES, NVIDIA took center stage with Project SHIELD, showing off an upcoming Android title called Real Boxing. Well, we still don’t have SHIELD (and you know how I feel about that), but Real Boxing hit Google Play this AM. Real Boxing is the most life-like fighting experience you will find on Android currently, bringing enhanced 3D graphics and lighting. The game is so detailed, you will see every drop of blood as you pummel it out of your opponent.

That’s all find and dandy, but what sort of puts a bad taste in my mouth is that the title is currently a Tegra exclusive title. So, most phones are already out of the picture and it’s basically limited to anyone that owns an ASUS tablet. Hooray for the openness of Android. Rant over.

The game costs $5 in Google Play, which may not be too bad if boxing is your sport of choice.

Play Link ($4.99)

Juicy rumor time, folks. According to Russian tech site, Mobile Review, NVIDIA has major plans for 2013 that go way beyond that of Project SHIELD and Tegra 4. Apparently, NVIDIA is currently looking to work with local and regional hardware manufacturers to get themselves directly into designing and making devices. The process is called white-labeling and it’s nothing new in the industry. As a quick reference, one company makes the product, then another slaps their logo/name on it and calls it their own, saving the expenses of investing in the necessary infrastructure.

From what is in the report, NVIDIA has their eyes set on both tablets and smartphones, with plans to start designing and creating their devices around May or June of this very year. If all goes according to plan, we will begin to see a ton of cheap (but not any less in quality terms) 7-10″ tablets hitting the market, all running NVIDIA chipsets.

Now, for a Tegra fanboy such as myself this is great news, but I am also a little worried when a company would literally dive headfirst into hardware. No, they aren’t new kids on the block by any means, but I am somewhat curious as to how these tablets/phones will turn out since they are being manufactured by “smaller” companies. If anything, this is another great way for them to peddle Tegra-exclusive games and apps.

NVIDIA branded hardware – do you want it?

NVIDIA’s next-gen processor, codenamed “Wayne,” may have leaked out in a company slide yesterday. The mobile processor that most of us figure will be dubbed the Tegra 4, will reportedly sport a 72-core GPU, support 1080p (2560×1440) resolutions, and produce 6x the graphical performance of the Tegra 3. It’s quad-core CPU architecture remains somewhat the same, but NVIDIA will now use ARM Cortex A-15 cores. The Tegra 4 will use 28nm process, making it as power efficient as the Snapdragon S4. The slide also mentions something about supporting 4k, USB 3.0, and dual-channel DDR3L memory.

Overall, this sounds like a giant step forward for NVIDIA. We’re big fans of the Tegra 3 and the work that NVIDIA puts in to bring gaming to mobile devices, so this sounds like exactly what we were hoping would be next in the Tegra 4.

The last rumor we saw suggested that devices could ship in Q1 2013 with the Tegra 4 inside.

If you need any more evidence that we have moved into a post-PC era, the quote from NVIDIA President and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang should be a clear indication for you. In a revenue conference call today, Huang said that consumers know that “a great tablet is better than a cheap PC.” Not a very surprising quote considering the Tegra 3 powers many mobile devices today and NVIDIA’s graphics cards are usually implemented in higher-end PCs.

Huang also dropped numbers about how NVIDIA was doing with an increase of 13% bringing the company $1.2 billion from just this last quarter. It was mentioned that the Tegra line, was making up for the downturn in PC sales numbers. You can expect NVIDIA to be putting more effort into their mobile chips since we are anxiously awaiting the Tegra 4 to be coming in the near future.

With news of Texas Instruments pulling their OMAP line of mobile processors out of the game, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to find out the preferred processor for your smartphones and tablets. Clearly, the strongest player in 2012 has been Qualcomm and their Snapdragon S4 that has been thrown in just about every LTE device. NVIDIA with their Tegra 3 and Samsung with their Exynos have lagged behind a touch because of LTE, but things are about to change on that front. We also have Intel as a new player that will eventually make some noise.

Is there a chipset in particular that you prefer? Are you thrilled with the efficiency and power of the Snapdragon S4, especially when paired with LTE? What about the gaming and graphics processing beast, the Tegra 3? Or are you more interested in finally getting the quad-core Exynos processor and LTE in something like the Galaxy Note 2?

And processor gurus, we would love for you to geek out on this one in the comments.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Day 3 of Reader Appreciation Week is here! On day 1, we gave away a Nexus 7. Yesterday, we gave away an HTC One X. Today, well, let’s go big (as in screen size) and hook someone up with a Toshiba Excite 10. While we may not have given the Excite 10 a ton of love as it arrived during a time when 10″ tablets were flooding the market and rarely stood out from one another, it’s safe to say that this device is no slouch. Thanks to its Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 10.1″ Autobrite Gorilla Glass display, dual cameras, and variety of ports (including a full sized SD card slot), it matches up nicely to most tablets in the industry on paper.

Who wants one?

Today, Texas Instruments has come out and announced that they will be looking to “shift focus” away from their mobile processor business. In a market that has become increasingly dominated by Qualcomm, NVIDIA and Samsung, Texas Instruments has not found the wiggle room to keep their business going. This could mean that we won’t see their new OMAP5 processor either.

While the OMAP Platform may have powered some of our most beloved phones like most of Motorola’s DROID line, the Galaxy Nexus, and the Kindle Fire, we won’t be seeing much out of them anymore. They do plan to continue to support current devices for the time being, but will mostly focus their efforts on a broader and more stable market, like cars.

The good news for us is that we are still getting great chips like the Snapdragon S4 and Tegra 3 in our mobile devices. At the same time though, we always love competition, and this means one less player is in the game.

Sad to see TI go?
