Accessories, accessories, accessories – here they come. We’ve already taken a look at Samsung’s own official S View Flip Cover for the Galaxy S4, but we’re now going to focus on some of our long-standing favorites. There will be accessories-a-plenty, so hopefully with our quick looks, you can find the ultimate case, dock, or other add-on for your new phone (whenever you get it). First up, is the Ultra Thin Air from Spigen. 

As you know from reading this site over the years, the Ultra Thin Air series has always been one of the first cases we look to with any new phone. This case is ultra minimal and provides just enough protection, while not getting in the way by adding bulk or weight. With this new version for the Galaxy S4, you are looking at a polycarbonate material with a semi-glossy coating, rather than matte. It fits incredibly well. In fact, I had to give a little added pressure in each corner to make sure it was on properly, but I’m not complaining because this case feels amazing in hand.

I don’t say this often, as I’m very critical of cases, but this may be one of the best cases I’ve used in a while, based off of fit, finish, and feel. It won’t slip off, the coating gives it plenty of grip in your hand, there is a tiny lip that lifts the front of the display off of surfaces when face down, and as usual, is minimal enough that the design of the phone still shines through. I typically prefer matte finishes on cases, but I can see the benefits to going semi-glossy with this new version for the GS4.

The Ultra Thin Air for the Galaxy S4 runs $24.99, but includes the case, screen protector, and button covers (3 of them). It comes in four colors: Mint, Infinity White, Soul Black (I’ll swallow your soul!), and Tangerine Tango.

Quick Look: Spigen Ultra Thin Air Case for the Galaxy S4 is a post from: Droid Life

This morning, we took a quick look at the new Ringke Fusion case for the Nexus 4 from Rearth. It’s called “fusion” because it fuses together a clear PC back plate and a TPU bumper to give the Nexus 4 protection while allowing the beautiful Crystal Reflection backside to continue to shine through. That post left readers with plenty of questions, most of which had to do with how it compared to other popular cases like the Ringke Slim, Spigen Ultra Thin Air, and the official N4 Bumper.

On Friday, I took a look at the new Ultra Thin Air case for the Nexus 4 from Spigen. As I mentioned in that post, these Ultra Thin Air cases have long been some of my favorites because of their minimal approach to what a case should be. With a phone like the Galaxy Note 2, a lack of bulk in a case becomes even more important since the device is already so oversized. With its 5.5″ display, the last thing you want to do to a Note 2 is add on weight and size – the Ultra Thin Air from Spigen does neither. 

Just like the N4 case, the Note 2 version of the Ultra Thin Air has a soft, matte finish to help prevent slips and falls. It has cut-outs for all of your switches and ports, including spots for the S Pen and camera. Unlike the Nexus 4 case, and in a good way, this case holds much tighter to the device and likely will never pop off unless you forcefully try to remove it. It’s not so tight that you are going to break it when removing it or anything, but it’s not semi-loose like the N4 case was.

Overall, I really like this case, just as I have other minimal cases. It’s understated, super clean, and offers a great fit and some protection for the oversized Note 2 at a decent price.

The Note 2 Ultra Thin Air comes in both white and black at a price of $19.99. It also comes with a screen protector ($15.99 value). Since Samsung created one design for the Note 2, this should work on all models, from all carriers.

Quick Look: Spigen Ultra Thin Air Case for Galaxy Note 2 is a post from: Droid Life

The Ultra Thin Air case that Spigen SGP creates for almost all of the newly released flagship phones has always been one of my favorites. As someone who favors minimal cases that don’t add extra bulk, this is one of the two that I always turn to (Rearth’s Ringke SLIM being the other) for testing. Now that their Nexus 4 Ultra Thin Air is available in black, I thought we’d take a quick look at it, since many of you seem to be fans of the minimal case as well. 

Overview

As you would expect with a name like “Ultra Thin Air,” this case adds almost zero thickness or bulk. It’s incredibly thin, and also lays almost flush with the sides of the device so that you can come close to getting that same waterfalling feel on the edges when swiping your finger across it. The corners stick up ever-so-slightly so that when laid face down, there is a bit of a lift off the ground to prevent scratching.

The material is plastic with a soft matte finish. It’s not slippery, yet also not super sticky. Wireless charging still works through this case, though it can be a bit finicky, something that shouldn’t surprise anyone with a Nexus 4.

vs. Ringke SLIM

So how does it compare to the Ringke SLIM we looked at? It’s a tough battle. The Ringke case sticks up a bit more in the corners to offer more protection, but both should do the trick for those who choose to lay their phones face down. The Spigen case, which seems impossible, is actually slightly more minimal. It comes up slightly less on the sides, but I believe this also makes it not grip the device as well as the Ringke. I don’t think the Spigen case will fall off of your Nexus 4 without some work, but it’s definitely easier to slip on and off than the Ringke. Something to keep in mind. The Ringke case also comes in a variety of colors – the Ultra Thin Air is only available in black at this time.

In a price battle, you’ll find the Ringke at $9.99 and the Spigen at $19.99, but keep in mind that the Spigen case also comes with a cleaning cloth and a screen protector (valued at $14). Tough decision, but both are really nice minimal cases.

Quick Look: Spigen Ultra Thin Air Case for the Nexus 4 is a post from: Droid Life

Here we go with another tempered glass screen protector solution for your Samsung Galaxy S3, although this time it’s made by the folks over at Spigen SGP. As many of you know after checking out my quick first looks at the XGEAR tempered glass protectors for the GS3 and Galaxy Nexus, tempered glass is the ultimate form of smartphone display protection.  

Spigen’s version is called GLAS Premium and is 8-9H in surface hardness, which means it is three times stronger than regular PET film. It also should resist scratches from just about anything, including knives and keys. It has an oleophobic coating to resist against smudges and fingerprints. The touch screen should remain ultra sensitive, and the edges have been rounded ever-so-slightly to make it much easier on the hand.

Spigen trimmed it around the edges, so that almost all cases will be able to fit with this screen protector on your device, took into account the proximity sensor issues that many experienced with XGEAR’s original glass protectors, and even tossed in different colored Home button inserts to help with pressing after the protector has been applied.

Initial Impressions

I appreciate the fact that Spigen cut the protector short around the edges so that you can still apply most cases for extra protection. I’m also glad that they worked around the proximity sensor issue that was happening during phone calls on the original XGEAR version. I’m enjoying the slightly rounded edges so that it doesn’t feel too sharp in hand and also the home button inserts that make pressing “Home” much easier.

I’ve looked at a couple of reviews who mention that touch sensitivity is not optimal, however, I haven’t run into any issues. In fact, I pressed as lightly as I could throughout an entire email, browsing session, and normal phone use and it reacted to everything I threw at it. Over time, if the adhesive were to give way, I could see there being an issue, but so far, it works perfectly.

Lastly, you won’t find the grid of dots on this Spigen version like I did on the original XGEAR versions.

At $34.99 you may consider this to be too expensive, but there aren’t many other options. If you want a tempered glass screen protector on your device, you can either go with Spigen’s or XGEAR’s ($29.99). From what I have read, XGEAR has made changes to fix some of the issues that plagued theirs initially, however, Spigen appears to have added some extra tweaks to make this slightly more appealing (lack of grid, room for more cases, and button inserts).

Update:  After a full day’s use, I have had absolutely no touch issues with this protector from Spigen. In fact, it’s as good as it was the minute I applied it to the device. We’ll see how it holds up over the matter of a week or so, but so far, I’m enjoying the protection.

At this time, we are only seeing a white version available, so blue GS3 owners are out of luck.

Quick Look: Spigen GLAS Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S3 [Contest Too] (Update: Winner Picked) is a post from: Droid Life

On our never ending quest to bring you looks at as many of the top Samsung Galaxy S3 cases as we can, the next stop is back with our friends Spigen SGP, and their Modello and Ultra Thin Air cases. Both cases are affordable, come in a variety of colors, and will give you some protection without feeling like your phone is hidden behind a brick. 

Modello

The Modello case from Spigen is their take on a TPU case. It’s essentially a rubber case that fits tightly around the entire device, even up onto the front a tad, to give it face down protection. Spigen’s, to me, has a much more textured feel than other TPU cases in the industry, something I liked while holding it. It didn’t just feel like a glossy rubber case – it felt like they spent time making it feel and fit perfectly.

There are cutouts for the camera, flash, speaker, volume rocker, lock switch, headphone jack, microUSB port, and microphones. Again, it fits perfectly, but one thing I really love is the fact that it barely touches on the front of the display. Too many TPU cases cover up the front side of the device, something I can’t stand. Spigen’s does a great job at giving you just enough protection without taking over. At $15, you can’t really go wrong with this case, especially if TPU is how you roll.

The case comes in 7 different colors:  black, brown, red, blue, purple, green, and grey.

Ultra Thin Air

The Ultra Thin Air is Spigen’s attempt at creating the ultimate minimal case that offers a bit of protection, but still highlights the design of the device. It’s made of a polycarbonate material that was custom formed to fit as perfectly as possible to the Galaxy S3.

Now, in the past with Ultra Thin Air cases, I was obsessed. In fact, the Ultra Thin Air for the One X is probably in my top 3 cases of all time. The Galaxy S3 version on the other hand, not so much. This case was too slippery for my liking. I also managed to damage the cutout for the lock switch within one day of use. I don’t necessarily think that is going to be normal, but I had to mention it. I’ve also noticed that on the silver and gold backs, that there is this slightly washed out spot in the middle. You can actually see it in the picture of the back below.

So while I love the idea of the Ultra Thin Air, I’m not sure that the Galaxy S3 version is up to previous standards. It will run you $19.99, but that also includes a screen protector. I’d suggest going with maybe the black or white, as the black for the One X was not slippery and was a dream. You may want to avoid the gold and silver though, as they are the two I handled and based this review off.

Cases, cases and more cases. Seems like we have already covered a ton of Galaxy S3 cases over the last few weeks, but there are always more to show you (and giveaway). Today, we have two new ones from Spigen SGP, the Neo Hybrid and the Illuzion. One is a two piece standard back cover case, while the other is similar to flip cases, but with a snap and a really good fit and feel. 

Neo Hybrid

The Neo Hybrid Galaxy S3 case is a two part case, TPU and polycarbonate, that when applied fits extra tight onto a device. The first application is the softer TPU backing that is then locked into place by the outer polycarbonate frame. In the pictures I have posted, the grey part would be the soft TPU piece, with the “Sparkling” blue being the frame.

The case itself was a little finicky to put together on the device, but once I did, it held the phone well. All ports are exposed, plus you have coverings for your lock and volume switches. There are 8 color options:  Sparkling Blue (pictured), Dazzling Orange, Shining Grass, Lightning Yellow, Infinity White, Jade Blue, Rubine Red, and Reventon Yellow. The last four are only available for pre-order, however, we have the Infinity White case to giveaway today.

The bonus here is that Spigen has tossed in one of their Ultra Nano Clear screen protectors. So while the $26.99 price tag may seem a bit high, you do get the $14 screen protector in the package. I wouldn’t call this my favorite case ever, but if you need a soft feel, protection, a snazzy colorway, and a screen protector, it’s not a bad option.

Illuzion

The Illuzion flip case is probably one of my favorite flip cases thus far. It’s faux leather, but it feels great in hand. The size of it compared to other flip cases feels optimal, it has a latch that actually snaps into place, and it holds up to 3 cards in its door. All ports are exposed, so you won’t have any issues charging or snapping pictures. One of the coolest features is the way Spigen chose to have your device held in place. They actually used one of their Ultra Thin Air cases (which we’ll review later), so the device fits incredibly well and doesn’t feel like it’s sliding around – something we have experienced with other flip cases.

The Illuzion case comes in 4 colors:  Mandarine Rosa (pictured), Golden Mocah, Lemon Indigo, and Mandarine Black. We have all four of these to give away today.

At $32.99, the price is about where it should be. You are buying quality, a pretty color scheme, and an Ultra Thin Air case wrapped into one package.

Quick Look: Spigen Illuzion and Neo Hybrid Cases for the Galaxy S3 [Contest Too] (Update: Winners Picked) is a post from: Droid Life

Since the Samsung Galaxy S3 on a variety of carriers including Verizon, has started to arrive on the doorsteps of many of you, we thought we would spend some time today to talk about a couple of your case options. Last week, we looked at the offerings of RearthUSA, but today are switching over to Spigen SGP. In hand, we have their Argos leather flip case and the Folio faux leather case, each in a handful of colors.

After you read through our thoughts on them, be sure to jump to the bottom to get in on some contest action. That’s right, you can win everything you are seeing today. 

Folio Faux Leather Case

The Folio Faux Leather case comes in a greyish brown, navy blue, and the reddish color you are seeing in the pics above. The material itself is obviously not leather, but it feels really nice in hand. It has almost this ribbed feeling that definitely gives it enough grip to help keep it in hand. The flip mechanism doesn’t feel cheap, and you even have a slot to keep a business card or two. There are indents for the volume rocker and lock switch so that you shouldn’t have any trouble finding or pressing them. There are camera, speaker, headphone jack, and microUSB cutouts on the back and bottom as well, so that you will never miss a shot, sound or charge.

For the most part, I like the feel and look of this case, but I do have one small gripe. With a phone inserted, it doesn’t really feel like it hugs it tight enough, for me anyway. Now, your phone certainly isn’t going to fall out of this case or anything like that, but it would have been more impressive had it really hugged my Galaxy S3 just in case the material starts to give over time. Overall, it’s a solid flip case option. The price is $39.99 though, and again, it’s not real leather. [Buy]

Argos Leather Flip Case

The Argos Leather Flip case is definitely like no other case I have ever held. Rather than flipping to the side, this flip case goes vertical on you. So when holding it in hand, the top cover actually moves down from a top latch to give you access to the phone. There are cutouts for the volume rocker, lock switch, camera, and speakers, however, the microUSB port is only accessible with the top flipped open. I sort of like the idea of the case flipping down and out of your way, but it would definitely take some getting used to.

This case is made of genuine leather, comes in 3 colors (white, black, and brown), and is listed at $39.99 on Spigen’s site. Personally, this genuine leather feel is not for me, but for those that have chosen leather in the past, you may be good here. To me, the faux leather of the flip case feels much nicer in hand. Who knows, maybe once this genuine leather has worked itself in a bit, it’ll feel amazing. [Buy]

The crew over at Spigen SGP, at least in my opinion, is producing some of the higher quality smartphone accessories you will find today that remain at a reasonable price point. The latest batch to hit our door step includes their Ultra Thin Air and Crumena cases for the HTC One X. At $19.99 and $29.99 respectively, they match up to competitors, but do they stand out enough to get you buy them? Let’s chat about ‘em. 

Ultra Thin Air

I’ve made it clear that I believe the HTC One X to be the most beautifully designed smartphone ever. It’s unibody polycarbonate material with soft matte finish is something that has received more comments (“Whoa, what is that phone!”) than any other phone I have ever owned. So the question then becomes, why on Earth would you want to cover it up with a case? Well, protection of course. Is the Ultra Thin Air capable of doing that though? That I’m not 100% sure of just yet, but it certainly looks pretty.

As one would expect from a case named the Ultra Thin Air, this thing is unbelievably thin and like the One X, is made of a polycarbonate material. When attached to the device, it adds millimeters of thickness that you won’t even notice. It manages to be a nice contrast to the all-white back of the phone, but still lets some of that beautiful body shine through. For minimalists, this is a dream case.

But let’s talk protection again. Can it, on this ultra-minimal level, provide any sort of protection? It should provide at least some. The corners are covered, so if you were to pocket drop directly to one of the 4, it could give you enough of a barrier to leave your phone unharmed. With that said, if you fast drop your One X with this case attached, it’s not going to be there to aide in that fall. As you can see from the pictures below, the case comes only about 2/3 of the way up the side.

So for me, this case is all about adding beauty or contrast rather than being a protector. It’s so thin and light that it doesn’t even feel like you have a case on when it is attached to the One X. This is definitely one of the nicest cases I have used, but then again, I’m a caseless kind of guy and using a case for protection has never been my thing. I’ll say this to finish – if you want to add a bit of protection with some added color flair, the Ultra Thin Air is a great choice. If you want the ultimate protector, this won’t do the job, but understand that it isn’t trying to.

Crumena

Ahh yes, the leather pouch. I have to be brutally honest here and say that this is one of those accessories that has never been my thing. I love the smell and look of a fresh leather pouch and the protection it provides, but having to pull my phone in and out of one of these all of the time just seems like a pain.

With that said, Spigen’s Crumena pouch for the One X feels of the highest quality. It’s leather on the outside and a soft fabric on the inside to prevent scratching. It holds the device tightly, but will likely loosen a tad over time since it’s leather. It comes in 3 color shades right now (pictured above) that all look beautiful. For those into the pouch game, this should be added to your list of pouches to consider.
