Last year, Motorola pushed out a freshly announced Kit Kat update to the Verizon Moto X (1st gen) in under three weeks. As you can imagine, we are still impressed by this feat, considering they not only had to test and prep the software for the phone, but it also needed approval by Big Red in order to go live for all on their network. It’s one thing to push an update to a Nexus or the new Moto X “Pure Edition,” both of which do not have carrier ties and can be given new software as manufacturers see fit; it’s a completely different struggle when a carrier is involved.
Which brings us to this year’s Moto X (2nd gen) and its impending Lollipop updates. We have already seen Motorola push Android 5.0 to the “Pure Edition,” but what about all of the carrier variants? Our team has been discussing this subject a lot over the last few days, all the while wondering if Motorola and Verizon would try and repeat last year’s success. Tim was even ready to put money on the updates starting yesterday or this upcoming Monday. While no new software has begun pushing as I type this, he might be right. (more…)
Users of the DROID Ultra, Maxx, and Mini report an incoming soak test from Motorola, one which brings Advanced Calling 1.0, also known as VoLTE for Verizon’s network.
Usually, once the soak test rolls out and is successful, the firmware is sent to all owners of the aforementioned devices across the network. If VoLTE is a feature you have been looking to take advantage of on Verizon, then be on the lookout soon. (more…)
Moto X owners on the AT&T network are receiving invites from Motorola for a soak test. These owners have been waiting very patiently for an update to either Android 4.4.3 and/or Android 4.4.4, but this update is likely for Android 4.4.4. That is the version Verizon’s variant of the Moto X is on currently, so Android 4.4.4 could be a safe bet. (more…)
With news of Android 4.4.4 rolling out to the Verizon Moto G, more than a few readers lamented that Motorola wasn’t giving the Moto X preferential treatment. Lucky for those folks, the company has begun a consolatory soak test for those who are a part of the Motorola Feedback Network. (more…)
A new soak test of a software update for the Moto X on Verizon is about to begin, with invites going out to members of the Motorola Feedback Network moments ago. The invite didn’t specify if it would be an update to Android 4.4.3 or Android 4.4.4. The Verizon DROID line just saw Android 4.4.4 at the beginning of this week, so there is a chance that the Moto X will see it as well.
Then again, the Sprint and T-Mobile Moto Xs both saw updates to Android 4.4.3 recently. (more…)
As we were heading into the holiday weekend, Motorola sent out invites of some sort to a potential soak test for DROID MAXX, ULTRA, and Mini owners for what we can only assume is an update to Android 4.4.4. The invites didn’t provide much info, nor were they the typical soak test emails, but readers of ours who did receive one seem to be on the same page as us – what else could it be? (more…)
Motorola looks to be preparing an update for the DROID Ultra and MAXX, with soak test invitations now hitting user inboxes. More than likely, this OTA will be an update to Android 4.4.2, bringing this line of DROID devices up to par with the rest of the top Android smartphones. (more…)
The AT&T Moto X – also known as the last of the bunch to get Android 4.4.2 – has a soak test for a new software update on the horizon. While nothing is confirmed until the update starts, we would be surprised if this doesn’t turn out to be 4.4.2. There isn’t much else it could be.
