The device usually runs $300, giving you a savings of $50 up front, but NVIDIA is also making sure you have free shipping and some other goodies to go along with it. In this recently released real-time strategy game called Zombie Tycoon 2, which was directly ported from the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, you must choose your side in the zombie apocalypse. There is the “apprentice-gone-rogue Orville Tycoon and his army of heavy-duty zombies – or – his revenge-hungry mentor, Professor Brainhov, and his rioting mass of twitchy brain-munchers.” Whichever side you do choose, you can bet that there will be plenty of brain eating going on. This morning, NVIDIA announced an OTA update which will be available for all SHIELD owners, one that will increase the device’s functionality by an incredible amount. Not only is NVIDIA introducing a ton of new and interesting features, but the device is being bumped up to Android 4.3, sticking to their plans of having the most current versions of Android running on the device. In a recent interview with Engadget, NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was asked if the public could expect a new rendition of SHIELD sometime in 2014. Jen-Hsun replied that we should all expect a new SHIELD anytime a new Tegra chip is released, which should actually be fairly soon. NVIDIA already announced that the next Tegra chip, codenamed Project Logan, will be the first Tegra chip based on the same “architectural sophistication” that you see in a PC platform today. (more…)
Today, at a press event that took place in Montreal, NVIDIA’s CEO announced GameStream, a new standard for media streaming technology. GameStream combines the power of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX graphics cards and advanced WiFi technologies to deliver a super smooth, low latency gaming experience for mobile gamers. It’s not a device or a service you pay for, but it’s the PC game streaming service that is now out of Beta that SHIELD owners have used for about a month or so now. (more…)
SHIELD owners can start to download the newest update from NVIDIA, update 59, which brings a good list of added features and other enhancements for the gaming console. Gamers can now move games and app data from the device’s internal storage to a microSD card, which should help you store even more fun things to do on your unit. In addition, Miracast got a bump in performance with the intro of Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro software, letting you better stream your titles right to the TV.
