Motorola: ICS for the RAZR Delayed in Australia, Other Regions Too? (Updated)

by: | posted 06.21.12 | News

Motorola announced today via Facebook that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the international RAZR in Australia has been delayed and will not rollout in Q2. They initially announced Q2 as a deadline back in February, but even with a number of leaked builds sneaking out, they apparently ran into issues that will prevent them from pushing it to end users on time.

The interesting note about this situation is the fact that one of the “MotoXprts” over at Motorola’s support forums has made it clear that Australia will not be the only region affected. So does that mean that the U.S. will see a delay as well? As you all know, Q2 ends next Saturday. We have seen soak test invites go out to U.S. DROID RAZR owners, so there is a chance that we still see it here.

Is It Ice Cream Sandwich Update Time for the RAZR and RAZR MAXX? Motorola Sends Out Invites For Testers (Updated)

by: | posted 06.19.12 | News

Motorola told us Q2 for Ice Cream Sandwich updates to the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX and it looks like they are doing everything in their power to hit that deadline. Soak test invites for members of their feedback network are going out this minute, talking about a “new software release.” They do not specifically say Android 4.0, but after seeing a new leak come out this week as build 6.16.211, what else could it be?

Update:  We received a tip suggesting that the soak test will start June 22 and the full rollout to the public will happen on June 27.

Stay tuned…

Verizon Sends Texts to DROID RAZR Owners, Says That Android 4.0 is Coming Soon

by: | posted 06.15.12 | News

Motorola and Verizon have exactly 15 days left to upgrade the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX to Ice Cream Sandwich in order to make their self-imposed deadline of Q2. Through a text message that is going out to RAZR owners today, we can assume that they must be getting close. Big Red is informing owners of these devices that Android 4.0 will be here soon and that their current Mobile IM app will have to be replaced:

Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported in Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!

With a couple of leaked builds having made their way to handsets over the last month or so, we know that they are at least attempting to work their magic in hopes of getting it ready in time.  I’m sure you are more excited about the new Mobile IM app, right?

Cheers Jerry, Antony, Leland, and Nick!

Analyst: Motorola’s RAZR MAXX Outsells iPhone 4S on Verizon During Q2

by: | posted 06.12.12 | News

According to a network analyst, Motorola’s uber-popular RAZR MAXX has completely outsold Apple’s iPhone 4S on Verizon during this year’s second quarter. Motorola is beginning to see success again, thanks to Verizon’s constant marketing of their all-powerful 4G LTE network and the device’s 3300 mAh battery. But what will happen in the fall when Apple unleashes its iPhone 5 onto the masses – Will it feature LTE? Will it have a larger 4.0″ display? Let’s see if Goo-Moto can keep this success streak going forward with the RAZR HD.

Motorola Begins “Switcher” Contest Through Facebook, Offers $2500 Grand Prize

by: | posted 06.07.12 | News

Are you the owner of a DROID RAZR or RAZR MAXX? Then you might want to start telling Motorola why you made the switch from your previous device to one of theirs. On Motorola’s Facebook page, simply fill out an entry form of a few basic usage questions, then tell them why you made the switch to a DROID RAZR. A grand prize winner is going to walk away with $2500 and many others will win accessories. Go give it a shot if you’re feeling lucky.

Comparison: Galaxy S3 vs. Incredible 4G LTE vs. Galaxy Nexus vs. RAZR MAXX

by: | posted 06.05.12 | News

With the Samsung Galaxy SIII becoming all sorts of official yesterday on Verizon, we thought we would take its specs and compare them to the other major players from Big Red that are currently available. We know that many of you have a big decision to make in the next couple of weeks as contracts come to a close and upgrades free up, so maybe this will help.

In this chart, you will see the GS3 up against the Incredible 4G LTE, Galaxy Nexus, and DROID RAZR MAXX as those (to us anyway) are the cream of the crop right now.

DROID RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich Update Coming June 12?

by: | posted 06.05.12 | News, Rumors

Is the Android 4.0 update for the DROID RAZR arriving on June 12? According to a report out of CNET, that may be Verizon’s current target. Motorola previously told us that we could expect the update to rollout by the end of Q2, so the 12th at least fits into that time line. It also makes sense that they would try to have the update ready to go a couple of weeks before the end of Q2 in case there are final issues that need to be addressed.

If this report is correct, I would expect to see soak test invites from the Motorola Feedback Network to arrive in testers inboxes any day now.

Thursday Poll: Motorola Owners – Are You Using Smart Actions? Which Ones?

by: | posted 05.31.12 | Polls

One of the top selling points for Motorola’s current lineup of phones has been their Smart Actions app. For those not familiar, think of Smart Actions as an app that tries to help streamline your life, make tasks happen automatically, and potentially extend your battery life. In a lot of ways, it’s like Taskr or Setting Profiles in that it allows you to set up profiles or activities that trigger actions on your phone. Leave home for work every day at 8AM? Smart Actions may recommend that you have it automatically turn off WiFi and launch Google Maps. When you arrive at work, Smart Actions could recognize the location and toggle WiFi back on help save battery while you are away from a charger. Make sense?

We want to know if the Motorola users in the building are taking advantage of these though. Have you found any of the Smart Action recommendations to be helpful? Is your battery lasting longer? Is the app annoying? Answer the poll briefly, and then tell us which actions you have found to be most beneficial in the comments.
