PayPal for Android receive a massive UI overhaul today when it was bumped up to version 4.0. Sending payments, receiving cash from friends, and shopping on-the-go never looked so pretty. You can see that the designers followed parts of the newest Android design and theme guidelines, but went with an orange tint in favor of the ICS blue. Overall, it looks a heck of a lot better than it did in version 3.0, is easier to navigate through, and should make managing your online funds a breeze.

Besides the stylish new look, they also added in these features:

• View your total, available, and pending PayPal balances
• Take a picture of your credit or debit card to easily add it to your account
• Find local merchants who are using our new PayPal Here service
• Enhanced support for Ice Cream Sandwich
• Bug fixes

PayPal Receives UI Makeover With Version 4.0 is a post from: Droid Life

PayPal is looking to be the biggest online payment system out there but one area they were beat to the punch was mobile payments. Square was very successful with their card-reader dongle but PayPal has come back swinging with their new service which is dubbed “Here.”

Instead of the square card reader that Square is known for, PayPal is offering a triangle to distinguish their new program. They are also offering a 2.7% flat rate for merchants who use this service to combat the 2.75% that Square offers. PayPal also has the name recognition and the support that comes with being around for so long. The application only is available for iOS right now but PayPal suggests getting ready because the Android version will be here before you know it. We are hearing April for a release schedule. PayPal Looking to Battle Square With “Here” Mobile Payment System is a post from: Droid Life

A new version of the PayPal app on Android is available for everyone to download in the market this very minute. You will find a completely revamped UI that makes navigation much easier, improved support for tablets, a Send Money redesign, and more. Upgrades haven’t been just cosmetic though, as a brand new NFC payment widget is also available for the phones with the required NFC chip. Just plug in the amount you want, and tap phones with a friend to receive your payment. Simplicity at its finest. Well, at least simple bill paying by your broke a** couch surfing buddy, that is.

As an avid user of the PayPal app, I can tell you first hand that this update is a serious jump from the version before it. I cannot wait until the entire DL team has a Galaxy Nexus, so that I can rob Kellex of all that he owns at the pool table.

Yesterday the new Android Market (3.3.11) hit the web with some new features, the most interesting being hidden deep inside the APK – Paypal integration. An AndroidGuys reader by the name of Victor looked into the APK file and stumbled across numerous references to Paypal.

The rumor of Paypal integration has come up time after time again, however it has never gone live. Users have waited for the day that they could finally buy apps using Paypal. Are we close, or could this be yet another let down?

No one should be surprised that PayPal has entered the NFC payment arena, especially after seeing the unveiling of Google Wallet back in May.  For PayPal to continue to grow and expand into the mobile space, this was essentially the next move that had to be made.  And today at MobileBeat2011 in San Fran, they demoed a phone-to-phone NFC payment system (available “late this summer”) using two Samsung Nexus S devices.   Through their new Android widget, a user can simply request an amount of money, touch their phone to another NFC-enabled device with PayPal and accept payment.  Simple.

PayPal is one of those things that some people in the modern world, just can’t live without. It allows you to buy securely from almost anywhere, send money as a gift, view account balances and countless other things. The PayPal Android app was something that did all of that originally, but as of today you are able to do one more thing – deposit checks.

The iOS version of PayPal app received this feature back in October of 2010, but we’re the types to say, “Better late than never.” Also added in this update is the ability to move the app to the SD Card for storage.

PayPal on Android Updated, Deposit Checks Using Your Camera is a post from: Droid Life

Google’s Android platform manager Eric Chu had a chance to chat with the folks at the Inside Social Apps conference on Tuesday and made it very clear that they are not satisfied right now with the performance of the paid app market on Android.  In fact, he even rattled off a list of changes that will take place over the next few months to help developers succeed on this platform.  While they are activating hundreds of thousands of phones each day, they want this platform to succeed in other key areas, most importantly, through a market.

• The list topper and one that we’ll likely see very soon is an in-app payment system which means that developers will be able to include add-ons to their apps that users  can purchase.  Not only will this help increase revenues for the devs, but it’s also a way to bring additional features to users who need some new spice in their applications.

• The second step will be to offer carrier billing to more than just AT&T.  The plan is to give users the opportunity to add application charges straight to their bill, which in theory, increases app purchases.  This method is apparently very expensive and time consuming, but Chu made it clear that they are working on it.

• There is a team at Google dedicated to making apps easier to find.  They are also in charge of weeding out the bad apps, but moving the best stuff forward will likely help out the entire market.  We all know how difficult it can be to find new and useful apps, so this is great news for everyone.

Here’s to hoping that these changes are almost ready to go.  We’ve seen a nice spike in quality apps over the last couple of months, but we also want the developers behind these apps to feel welcomed and to be rewarded for their outstanding work.

And on a now-related note, a VP of mobile at Paypal has decided to brings his talents to the Google side of the world.  His role with Paypal was to help bring them up to speed on all things mobile, so he seems like a great choice to help lead a new payment system for our favorite mobile OS.  This could mean that an option to buy apps using Paypal is out, but we’d rather have a native Google option anyway, right?

Slow Growth in Android App Sales Triggers Major Changes, Paypal VP Heads to Google is a post from: Droid Life

According to PayPal, Google has already announced support for their payment system into Android and they wanted to make sure you all knew about it through their blog.  Well, for a few minutes anyway.  The post which went up yesterday was pulled, but not fast enough as Google Cache continues to work wonders after all these years and still displays the little gaffe of a post.

We’re not surprised at the arrival nor are we at the mis-posting of another article on another tech site.  And no, Google has not actually announced PayPal as a payment option yet, but we figure that it’s coming any day now.

PayPal Blog Announces Android Support Prematurely, Gets Pulled Immediately is a post from: Droid Life

The rumors of PayPal coming to Android as a payment option started getting heavy at the beginning of the month with the most recent word suggesting that it would go live after their developer conference this week in San Francisco.  How close are we to that happening?  Really close if you take the screenshot above to mean what we think it means.  

According to the profile page for Android developers, there is now an option to add your PayPal account, so that you can easily transfer funds from it over to your Google Checkout account.  And why would devs have received funds into their PayPal accounts?  Because we would be buying their apps with our PayPal monies, silly people.

Has the time finally come?  Will we be able to make app purchases in the Android Market using PayPal?  According to The Street, Google and PayPal have agreed on a deal to bring the payment option to the app market as early as late October.  Rumors suggest that during the PayPal Developers Conference on October 27th, the two will come together and make the announcement.

If there is a short list of Android annoyances, the checkout process for the market is developer on it.  How big of announcement would this be?

We’ve been waiting on PayPal’s “bump” technology to hit Android for a few months now and as of yesterday, it was made official.  Get ready to split that Vegas club bill with your pal Tony by performing a solid broseph fist bump.  Just don’t forget to blow it up afterwards…

Just like our PayPal Mobile app on the i*hone, the new Android app features bump technology –  allowing you to simply tap two phones together to send money. Split the check is another great feature, which lets you automatically calculate the total cost of a bill and then collect money directly from friends when out to dinner. We hope these new features make it even easier to get paid back on the spot the next time you’re stuck picking up the tab.

PayPal recently announced that they have an Android application in the works and will include their sweet little “bump” feature which allows you to transfer money between PayPal accounts and smartphones with a little tap.  While this thing isn’t slated to release tomorrow, they did put a “two to three month” deadline on it…

“Bumping” money transfers is a practical and convenient way to settle a bill, but right now the service is limited to iPhone users. For PayPal 2.0 to really become indispensable, users need to tap out transfers from any device. During our chat with PayPal at CTIA 2010 here in Las Vegas, we learned that updates to the Android and BlackBerry app are planned for the next two or three months.

It might seem a little odd that this announcement brings so much joy into my life, but I’m an internet guy, and internet guys use PayPal for just about everything.  Who’s with me?
