This morning, Verizon announced a new 4G LTE phone to their growing family, the Pantech Perception. As one would expect from anything released by Pantech, this phone should be considered mid-range when compared to today’s smartphone standards. It sports a 4.8″ HD (720p) Super AMOLED display, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, and 16GB of storage. 

Pantech is trying to be somewhat innovative on the software front though, by tossing in Motion Sense, which allows you to gesture or wave over your device to answer calls, scroll through contacts, change songs being played, or flip between pictures in the gallery. Galaxy S4, anyone? Seriously, these were all features mentioned at some point after Samsung announced their new flagship phone that has yet to be released.

The Perception runs Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but will “soon” be upgraded to Jelly Bean.

The Perception can be had for $99.99 on 2-year contract with a $50 mail-in rebate. It will arrive in stores beginning April 25.

Verizon’s next highly anticipated super phone just stopped by the FCC for some closeups. I’m hoping you might have caught a whiff of sarcasm from me and that the Pantech Perception will be more of a mid-range device for those looking to pick up a more “budget-friendly” phone. These are the first actual photos we have seen of the device, if you don’t count the press render we saw back in early January. 

The Perception will reportedly sport a 720p display, 4G LTE connectivity, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, and an 8MP back-facing shooter. These specs don’t sound too bad at all, but given Pantech’s history of less than desirable hardware, I can’t imagine seeing a line outside Verizon for this one.

Pantech is looking to make a bigger dent in the US market this year with the recently announced Discover headed for AT&T and the Perception that we believe is headed for Verizon. Start off with a HD 720p screen that’s powered by a Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and this device is looking fairly decent already.

Unfortunately there isn’t much more information other than that. The Discover is set to launch on AT&T for only $50 however, so if that price is close to the same when it lands on Verizon this could be a very powerful mid-range device.

Pantech Perception Render Spotted With Verizon LTE and HD Screen is a post from: Droid Life

The Pantech Maruader first leaked last week as the Star Q, but the specs that accompanied the leak were all sorts of wrong. The device actually has a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, likely the same chipset that is in the Incredible 4G LTE. It also has a 5MP camera, 1GB of RAM, and will be available for $49 on August 2 after a $50 rebate.

Verizon is directing this device at first time smartphone owners, or those that are coming over from having feature phones for years. The UI looks super simple, almost feature phone-esque, but the price is the key here. Not a bad option for those making their first smartphone purchase that aren’t planning on using much data with Share Everything. Then again, the Galaxy Nexus can be had for $50 more and is 10x the phone.

Verizon Announces the Pantech Marauder at $49, Made for Smartphone Newbies is a post from: Droid Life

What you are looking at is a phone known as the Pantech Star Q. It’s clearly a below mid-range slider, headed to Verizon to run on their 4G LTE network. While it may sport a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, the rest is nothing to be writing home to Mom about. The Star Q has a 4″ WVGA display, 3MP rear camera and a 4-row slideout keyboard.  Ice Cream Sandwich is on board, but boy does that screen above look like some feature phone software from the 90s. Yikes.

If this phone doesn’t launch for free, you’ll find me scratching my head in the back corner of a pub for days.

Pantech Star Q Makes First Appearance, A Low-Range Slider Headed to Verizon is a post from: Droid Life

Could this be a NenaMark 2 benchmark for a new Pantech (model number ADR910L) device headed to Verizon? From looking over the benchmark, we can see it sports the Adreno 225 GPU which points to a Qualcomm S4 chip, Ice Cream Sandwich, and we assume it will have 4G LTE aboard since VZW has stated that they would be only launching devices with 4G LTE capability in 2012. So, could this be the next iteration of the Breakout which was model number ADR8995?

The S4 and ICS do make it sound nice, but with a reported resolution of just 480×800, we shouldn’t expect this to be the next superphone everyone is dying to get their hands on. For those interested in mid-range devices, having the S4 processor for a much more affordable price will be a major draw though. Our ears are officially perked for more info on this handset.

Not only answer/ignore calls, but you could also swipe through your gallery, pinch-to-zoom a photo, etc. The possibilities are endless. The Vega LTE is a Korea destined device, but we can hope that a manufacturer will bring this sort of gesture technology to the States sooner, rather than later. On an unrelated note, girl handling an assault rifle at a carnival? Hot.

Two of Verizon’s newest devices – HTC Rhyme and Pantech Breakout – received their standard video overviews this morning.  The Rhyme walks through some of HTC’s new Sense 3.5, the accessory pack for the phone, how easily it takes pictures of bikers, and reminds you to always ignore calls from work.

The Breakout video takes you into a world of pure dance and social awesomeness.  If you need a phone that is hot in the break dancing scene, then look no further than the Breakout.  It’s also amazing at finding rooftop parties, sending texts to your crew, and bringing the “cool.”  I can’t believe I just typed all of that with a semi-straight face.

For those in the market for a new phone with 4G LTE, but aren’t interested in paying the $299 price tag that accompanies the DROID Bionic, then look no further than the Pantech Breakout.  As Verizon’s least expensive 4G LTE phone at just $99 on contract, you actually get a pretty decent set of specs in a small package.  In fact, the specs match up closely to some of Big Red’s initial 4G LTE releases with its 1GHz single-core, and betters almost all of them with the fact that it runs Android 2.3.  It has dual-cameras, a bunch of fancy wallpapers (download here), and can be had today.

The Pantech Breakout is official as Verizon’s cheapest 4G LTE device to date and will be available just as we said, on September 22.  Originally thought to be $149 on 2-year contract, Big Red has decided to shave an additional $50 in order to drop the price down to $99.  With its 4″ screen, 1GHz single-core processor, and Android 2.3, that’s not actually a bad price at all.  Still not sure that this is the device for Android gurus or tech addicts, but it could be a great option for those new to the smartphone game.  And don’t forget, that you can download all of its stellar wallpapers here.

Both the HTC Rhyme and Samsung Stratosphere are now appearing in Verizon’s Device Management system, a sign that they are more than just vapor.  The Stratosphere – a device expected to be like the Epic 4G with slideout keyboard – is confirmed as having 4G LTE radios and no global roaming.  The Rhyme on the other hand is just 3G, but could be a girl-friendly device with Beats by Dre audio.  Each of these devices is looked at as being mid-range.

And speaking of mid-range, we have official pricing for the Pantech Breakout below.  

About what we expected to see – $149 on 2-year contract.  But check out that full retail price of $359.  Even as a lower-tier 4G LTE device, that’s a heck of a low price.

HTC Rhyme and Samsung Stratosphere in Verizon’s Device Management, Pantech Breakout is Just $149 on Contract is a post from: Droid Life

The Pantech Breakout may be the first mid-range 4G LTE device (headed for September 22) that appeals to a specific crowd of non-power users, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have a sexy media file for us to enjoy.  Thanks to our buddy Legion, we have for you the wallpapers, live wallpapers, audio (ringtones, notifications, alarms, etc.), and boot animation from the device.  And I’ve got to admit, that this is one of the more enjoyable wallpaper packs we have seen on a device in a while – artsy instead of robot-dominatrix-world-crusher.  The live wallpapers are also pretty polished (work nicely on the XOOM too), however, they appear to struggle to work on my Bionic or devices with higher resolutions.  Feel free to test them though.

Looks like the Pantech Breakout has started to arrive in stores.  Expected to be available on September 22, this phone should be the affordable 4G LTE option for Verizon customers that aren’t interested in droppin’ 3 Benjamins on the latest and greatest toy.  It has a 1GHz single-core processor, front and rear cameras, a 4″ screen, and runs Android 2.3.  Nice little entry into the LTE lineup.

Hey Look, a Pantech Breakout in the Wild! (Updated) is a post from: Droid Life

The Pantech Breakout is Verizon’s next 4G LTE phone to follow the DROID Bionic and is looking like the option for anyone interested in having high data speeds without having to pay upwards of $300 up front. We gave you a quick preview of the specs on this phone a few weeks back, but now have the full and official spec sheet to tighten up any loose ends.  The Breakout won’t blow you away in this day and age with its hardware – I’m not sure it was built for that though.  At some point, Verizon was going to have to offer affordable 4G LTE phones and this looks like it will be the first.

With its 1GHz single-core processor, front and rear cameras, 4″ screen, DLNA support and Android 2.3, it’s actually on par with most of the LTE phones on the market.  In fact, other than the Bionic, it’ll be the only phone running Gingerbread – yikes.

Pantech Breakout Headed to Verizon with 4G LTE on September 22 is a post from: Droid Life

If you were looking for an inexpensive 4G LTE device from Verizon, the Pantech Breakout will likely be one of your best options.  While we don’t have pricing, this device is missing from MAP lists and other major VZW documentation, leading us to believe that its their LTE stepchild.  Its specs aren’t awful by any means, but with the DROID Bionc and HTC Vigor (first pics) just around the corner, you can bet that this phone will be priced to sell.

It has a 4″ screen, runs Gingerbread (something no other LTE device on Verizon can say), front and rear cameras, Swype, Pantech’s custom UI, 1GHz single-core processor, and 512MB of RAM.  It matches up closely to the LG Revolution – hopefully the price does too.
