Twitter account @evleaks posted another image this afternoon of the mystery LG device that we have been looking at for the past week. As of right now, our money is still on the idea that this is the Optimus G2 and not Google’s next Nexus, although you just can’t rule anything out these days.

As we can see in this image, the device has little to hardly any bezel around the large display. If we take last week’s picture and place them side by side, you can see that it most certainly is the same device. The speaker matches up well and the camera is also in that same spot.

While this is still not much to go on, it’s exciting to see OEMs focusing on displays and bezels this year.

Thoughts?

Leak specialist @evleaks posted this photo today of what can only be described as an unannounced, upcoming, high-end LG smartphone. Our first guess is to assume this is the new LG Optimus G2, the follow-up to last year’s Optimus G (our review). Since this is definitely not the Optimus G Pro, what else can it be, right?

You’ll notice that it lacks hardware navigation keys, so there is a chance that LG is buying into Google’s take on Android, which is to go with software keys. The display also seems to carry a similar quality to the original Optimus G, or even Nexus 4, in that it cascades towards the edges. Early reports from benchmarks peg this phone as having a Snapdragon 800 processor and running the latest version of Android. I would also imagine that it’ll come equipped with the new display resolution standard for high-end devices of 1080p.

Speaking of Nexus, is there any chance that this becomes the reference device for the newly-rumored next Nexus phone from LG? The original Optimus G was indeed the reference for the Nexus 4, so should the report out of Korea Times from last week end up being true, you could potentially be looking at the new Nexus phone.

Lots of questions with no answers, as usual.

Benchmarks were recently filed through GL Benchmark that point directly towards the upcoming LG Optimus G2 for T-Mobile. Previously, we discussed this device for two main reasons – first that it would be launched possibly running Android 5.0 aka Key Lime Pie, and that it would come powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor. Today, we can start the process of confirming at least one part of that, as the device has shown up as the LG D801, sporting the MSM8974 (800).

Showing to have a max CPU frequency of just 1728, that is a bit slower (for lack of better term) than the 2.0GHz+ that was rumored a couple of months ago. A quad-core 1.7GHz chip is nothing to cry over though.

Next up, the device that received the benchmark is shown as running Android 4.2.2, not Android 5.0. If it was running KLP before launch/announcement, that would be amazing to say the least. There is no launch date set for the Optimus G2, so it could still be that LG and T-Mobile are awaiting the arrival of Android 5.0 to move forward with the device.

Either way, when the device does launch it will be one of 2013′s superphones, so you will most certainly want to keep an eye out for it.

Before this year’s CES kicked off, there were a few in the industry that had their money on LG announcing the successor to the device that brought them back into the spotlight, the Optimus G. With CES now well over, it’s time for the new reports to start flying in as to when we can expect to see LG’s next flagship device.

According to new reports, LG has now penciled in launch of the Optimus G2 for the Fall of 2013. As mentioned by CNET, LG could be waiting to launch the device until Google releases the next version of Android, Key Lime Pie. From what we know so far, the device will feature a 1080p display, run Qualcomm’s latest mobile processor, and now we could be looking at the newest version of Android.

This is definitely a reason to start getting excited for this year’s MWC.

With CES only days away, the rumormill is working overtime thanks to companies like LG. We just posted a story about the company possibly unveiling the 5.5″ Optimus G2 at the event, but this new teaser video may help back that in some form.

At the 18-second mark, if you can last that long with the 90s French discotheque track playing in the background, you’ll see a device that resembles either a tablet or a smartphone. You can see the bottom screws peaking through, a design highlight that graced both the original Optimus G and the Nexus 4. Beyond this quick shot, though, you can’t see much else. It could be the phone-tablet hybrid that has been talked about a variety of times over the last few days, or we could just be imagining things.

You tell us.

With a 5.5″ 1080p display and new Snapdragon S4 “Prime” processor, the MSM8974 (quad-core with speeds of 2.0 – 2.5GHz), it’s certainly a step up on the spec front. The original rumor for this phone pegged it for a May 2013 release, but famed rumor monger DigiTimes thinks that LG will show it off at CES, next week. This matches up to a report out of GSMArena last week.

The move makes sense for LG, even if they just released the Optimus G and Nexus 4 within the last couple of months. 1080p is going to be the standard in 2013, something we are already seeing evidence from with companies like Huawei and ZTE. Both companies are expected to show off 1080p phones next week, so if LG wants to continue to try to come back in the smartphone industry, they better get a phone ready with the latest and greatest specs. And let’s not forget that HTC already has a 1080p phone out and is planning to launch more, if rumors are true.

The good news is that we’ll know in a matter of days. LG has a CES press event on Monday at 8AM.

Earlier this month, a mysterious LG device toting a 5″ 1080p display was benchmarked, with a model number of LG-F240K. Today, reports out of Korea show that a device called the Optimus G2, a successor to the Optimus G that just launched here in the U.S., could be ready for the market as early as May of 2013. Could this be that same mystery phone? On top of the 5″ 1080p display, it is also reported that the device will sport a 2GHz Qualcomm chipset which would be a major turn on for any potential buyers.

The month of May might be some time away, but if the device is indeed coming, then we’ll be sure to see plenty of more info leaked in the coming months. In fact, LG may shoot for sooner rather than later, given HTC has already launched their 1080p offering, as well as rumors of Samsung to do the same here very soon at this year’s CES.

LG Optimus G2 possibly interesting you already?
