It’s almost Mother’s Day! This means it’s that time of year to thank mom for her hard work in managing the everyday life of a family with a bigger and clearer connection to everything important to her. See where we are going here? If she had a phone like the LG Optimus G Pro with its 5.5″ 1080p display, quad-core processor, multi-tasking capabilities, and brilliant 13MP camera, she could maintain her amazing motherly self in a much more efficient manner. Or she could simply rock out with a sweet new smartphone that’s probably better than yours.

LG is still hosting an event this evening in NYC to reveal their plans for the Optimus G Pro, but AT&T has gone ahead this morning and ruined some of the surprise. The device is coming to AT&T as an exclusive (yes, another one) on May 10 for $199 on new 2-year contract. You can pre-order the device from May 3 if you’d like. Should you choose to pre-order, you’ll receive a free Quick Cover black folio case.

For those not familiar, the Optimus G Pro is a lot like the Galaxy Note 2 in terms of size, but 1-ups Samsung’s big boy by using a 5.5″ full HD IPS display (1920×1080, 400ppi), 13MP rear camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, and 3140mAh battery. It also has  2.1MP front camera, runs Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), and features a suite of LG-inspired multi-tasking software. There is no S Pen, though.

If you were interested in this device, how are you feeling about this being an AT&T exclusive?

LG Optimus G Pro

Twitter account @evleaks is at it again this morning, this time leaking a press render for the upcoming LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T. This is the same device that is set to be announced at an LG press event next week on May 1, so this is when things get exciting. We are putting our bets on the device’s specs to not change too much from the Korean version, which is one beast of a device.

LG Confirms May 1 Event is About the Optimus G Pro

lg event

May 1 has been saved on our calendars since last Tuesday when LG announced a mobile-related event for that evening. The “save the date” spoke of geniuses and brilliance, which didn’t necessarily make much sense at the time. However, thanks to the official invite to the event that we received today, we now understand the references.

LG Asks Us to Save the Date for a May 1 “Share the Genius” Press Event

LG save date may1

LG dropped a save-the-date note into our inbox this afternoon, asking us to clear our calendars for a May 1 press event in New York City. The press invite mentions little, only providing two quotes of “Share the genius” and “Capture the spotlight in true brilliance.” While neither mean a thing to me, one would expect this event to feature their new Optimus G Pro, since no other phone from them is on our radar at this time.

LG is attempting to take Samsung’s 2010-2011 approach to success in the smartphone business – copy everything your biggest competitor does, but try to do it first and loudest if you can. If you remember back on the eve of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 unveiling, LG announced new eye-recognition tech that would be released as a software value pack for smartphones like the Optimus G Pro. For weeks leading up to Samsung’s announcement, all rumors focused on Samsung putting identical features into the Galaxy S4, so to see LG drop a press note about the same exact tech was worthy of an eye-roll or two. But hey, what can you do when you are down?

LG Optimus G Pro Headed to AT&T, Possibly Penciled in for May Release

LG Optimus Pro G

Curious about LG’s next flagship and when we can expect it to arrive on our shores? According to those close to the matter, the Optimus G Pro is set to make its way to the U.S. via AT&T, with a rumored launch date of some time in May, but we are also hearing June. The Optimus G Pro launched in Japan with a 5″ HD display, but apparently the American variant is set to come with a 5.5″ display instead, just like last year’s Galaxy Note 2.
