A couple of popular Android apps received updates this morning that make them tablet optimized. NFL Mobile, the Verizon exclusive, now supports bigger screens with a new tablet UI, is ready for the post season, will have live video of select post season games (including the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl), and live audio of all post seasons games.

Flipboard, the popular news feed app that came over from iOS this year, received an update that only lists it as being “bug fixes,” however, it actually introduces a new tablet optimized layout. Instead of flipping up and down to jump between pages and stories, you now flip left and right. It looks a lot like the newest Google Currents, actually – very nice update.

According to Verizon’s Facebook page, NFL Mobile is free to their customers through the weekend. So if you are interested in catching tonight’s game between the Ravens and Browns on your smartphone, you can do that at no charge. If that game sounds like the snoozefest of the century, then try to relax, because all of Sunday’s action will be available as well. September 27 through October 1 is the promo period.

The NFL Draft 2012 is quickly approaching. Over the course three days at the end of this month, you will know more about Robert Griffin III than you ever cared to. His third and fourth cousins-in-law will be interviewed, Jon Gruden will go all Chucky on him in a 6-part film room series, and somehow, just for ratings, at least one whack-o analyst will bring up Tim Tebow and talk about their similarities. It’ll be a fantastic time.

If you want to follow it all, the NFL Mobile app is still your best bet to do that. The app was updated a week or so ago and will include live coverage of all three days, draft trackers with live pick updates, bios with video clips, 2012 Combine results, and more. Football fans, this is your pocket pal.

Verizon kicked off a new promotion this week to try and sucker tempt you into signing up for some of their monthly services like VZ Navigator and Visual Voicemail. If you aren’t interested in using the fantastic free services that Google offers like Maps and Voice or for some reason feel like paying for Big Red’s versions instead, then think about asking for this bundle. The entire package includes NFL Premium, Ringback Tones subscription, Usage Controls, Verizon Video, VZ Navigator and Visual Voicemail all for $12.99 per month – the same price you pay for just voicemail and navigator currently.

Verizon to Offer “Smartphone App Pack” That Includes NFL Mobile, Ringback Tones, VZ Navigator, Visual Voicemail and More for $12.99 is a post from: Droid Life

NFL junkies with the Galaxy Nexus have been dying to get their hands on a working NFL Mobile app from Verizon. We were initially expecting it to arrive back on December 22, but our sources told us that the date had been moved to around January 4. Sure enough, an update just popped up in the Android Market for NFL Mobile, bringing with it Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) support. We are already hearing from folks that it still doesn’t work, but remember that you also need the Verizon Login app to get signed into it.

If you still can’t get it working after installing both, then shame on Big Red. You may also want to uninstall the Login app and reinstall, then run it.

Update:  One source just reached out to let us know that it may not happen today after all. Could have been pushed to January 4. Feel free to check in 10 minutes or so though.

As many of you know, the NFL Mobile app from Verizon does not currently support the Galaxy Nexus. That should change by December 22 (today) at 2PM Pacific according to a couple of our sources. And if it meets that date, it should have plenty of time to be optimized for that Super Bowl streaming that so many of you plan to take advantage of. Too much sarcasm there?

NFL Mobile App Headed to Galaxy Nexus Today? (Updated) is a post from: Droid Life

This year’s Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis can be watched on your mobile device thanks to Verizon and their NFL Mobile app. And not only will you get to stream the game from anywhere, but the coverage will include additional camera angles, in-game highlights and live stats. This is fantastic news for those that either have to work on that day, are traveling, or for whatever reason cannot join their friends for another epic party. The Super Bowl will take place on February 5.

Now, when can we expect to see support for the Galaxy Nexus? Verizon has assured us all that a working version is on the way, so here’s to hoping it arrives within the next month.
