Tipsters sure do love next Thursday. A new rumor has popped up pegging November 11th as the date for the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) SDK to go live which matches up to all of the rumors surrounding the Nexus S and Samsung’s event on the 8th. At this point, another rumor is another rumor and we’ll just have to wait until the 11th to see if this holds up. Google to my knowledge doesn’t actually announce dates for their Android releases, so we’ll know for sure when the SDK goes live on their site and they start tweeting about it.

If it does come on the 11th, then maybe we can start dreaming of a date for a release of Android 2.3 onto an actual device. Remember that the SDK is for use by developers to make their apps compatible with this new version, so don’t expect any ROMs immediately.

We all know that Samsung is announcing a new Android device on November 8th and are pretty sure it will be the Continuum, but we’re still holding out hope that they will also include news of the Nexus S (Nexus Two?). This is the phone that will replace the Nexus One as Google’s developer phone, should include a front facing camera, could run Android 2.3 first, and sport slightly better specs than the rest of the Galaxy S line of smartphones. It should be one heck of a device.

What we want to know though, is if you would be willing to ditch the “DROID” brand for this new beast should it land on Verizon? I know the Fascinate received some pretty mixed reviews from our readers, so we’re expecting some good opinions on this one as well.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

There are blog battles going on right now over the thought of Samsung announcing the Nexus Two (or Nexus S?) on November 8th and we wanted to fill you in, plus get your opinion on the situation. Is this announcement really going down or not? Will it just be the Continuum? We’re still leaning towards it happening, and it really just comes down to a battle of sources.

AndroidSpin and the Droid Guy are sticking to the thought that it will just be the Continuum due to a number of hints including the press invite, the file name of the press invite, and their various sources.

Android and Me on the other hand is sticking to the idea that it will come after the Continuum announcement, which they believe to be somewhat of a front. They are going strictly on their sources and a variety of hints including the timing of the Gingerbread statue unveiling and their analytics data.

What do we think? Well we know that 2.3 and even 3.0 have been popping up on our analytics as well leading us to believe that devices are preparing for an unveiling of sorts. We also have a hard time believing that the Samsung Continuum deserves an entire press event, especially since the phone is not all that ground breaking. It has the same specs as the rest of the Galaxy S line, but includes a new second mini-screen know as the “ticker.” While this is something innovative, it’s not press event-worthy. There has to be something bigger, and we’re thinking it’s the Nexus Two.

Join the battle! Nexus Two coming on the 8th or not?

Update: Most people are pretty sure that it’s still going to be the Continuum which we thought back when this date was announced. Oh well, was worth some good chatter.

News sort of blew up last night over a couple of subjects. First was about the Droid 2 update which looks to set the device a slight step ahead of the Droid X in software versions and will include some neat little features like the ability to set a contact picture from your gallery. The second bit of news might have been even bigger and was announced on the air during Radio Android’s weekly show, having to do with the Nexus Two. An anonymous tipster sent info to their hosts claiming that Samsung would be announcing the follow-up to the Nexus One in their press event which is happening on November 8th in NYC.

He also managed to toss out some details which of course have yet to be confirmed:

The device will be the Nexus S

It will be branded as a Google experience device featuring Android 2.3

It will have the same 4″ SAMOLED screen seen on the Galaxy S devices

It will feature the same Hummingbird processor from the Galaxy S handsets

It will be easily rootable like the Nexus One was

It will be at least GSM, unknown about carrier or CDMA

It will have no hard buttons on the face, similar to a Vibrant

Sound good to you? Well, at almost the same time that news dropped over the air, our buddy Taylor from Android and Me posted a similar story which he uncovered from “multiple” sources.

This is big, people. Now, before we get more Samsung hate like we saw on Twitter last night, understand that this will have to be a Google Experience phone just like the N1 and original Droid. If Samsung truly does announce this device, this will be the next developer phone so it won’t have a custom skin on it or come preloaded with Bing. This will be the real deal and a phone that almost all of you should consider if you can’t stand locked down phones with manufacturer skins. You’ve all seen how often the N1 receives updates right? Sick of waiting around for them on another device? Then this might be the one for you.

Thoughts?

Has Google already created the follow-up device to its Nexus One? According to reports today from the UK, the Nexus Two (we’ll call it) is built, loaded with Gingerbread, and will be sold exclusively through Carphone Warehouse by X-mas. (Who?) A company based out of the UK, meaning if this rumor is true, Google must already have some plans to hook up with a U.S. retailer to distribute this puppy stateside, right?

No news on any of the specs, but if we look back at the Nexus One, you have to figure this will be the next developer phone and one that trumps almost anything else.

That picture above is by no means a mock-up of the Nexus Two and should simply bring back some laughable memories to a few of you long time readers. And didn’t Google also say just a few months ago that there would not be a follow-up device?
