Most Nexus Devices are Out of Stock on Google Play These Days

Taking a quick tour through any of the Nexus device pages on Google Play these days doesn’t return much. Sure, the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nexus 10 are all still listed, but few models are actually available for purchase. Over the last couple of months, we have watched as inventory levels of each has come and gone. However, those “out of inventory” notes seem to be sticking as of late. To be fair, the Nexus 10 went out of stock well over a year ago, but only recently have the Nexus 5 (in many colors and storage sizes) and Nexus 7 (2013) remained unavailable.  (more…)

Deal: 16GB Nexus 7 (2013) Plus Free Leather Case on Sale for $129 Today Through eBay

We don’t know if Google will ever release another Nexus 7 tablet. In fact, the only rumors of a new Nexus tablet center around an HTC-made device with a metal body and an 8.9-inch display. So if you plan to buy a Nexus 7, like last year’s model, you are quickly running out of time. Google has sold out of almost all versions of the Nexus 7 (2013) through Google Play without re-stocking them for weeks. The only two available are the 32GB LTE model in black or the 16GB WiFi-only version, both of which go in and out of stock on the daily.

If the 16GB WiFi-only version is of interest, hit up eBay’s daily deal today. You can grab a “manufacturer refurbished” 16GB Nexus 7 (2013) for $129, but that also includes a free leather case and free standard shipping. The device retailed brand new for $229. Not a bad deal.

Google Releases New Android L Images as Build LPV81C

Alongside the announcement that the Google Fit preview SDK is now available, Google snuck out new images for the Android L developer preview. The new images weigh in as build LPV81C and are still only available to the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi.

Google has yet to add these to the Android L preview site as I write this post, so you will have to go through the Google Fit SDK page to grab them.

Go download ‘em! If you need instructions on how to flash factory images, hit up this post. (more…)

More Deals: Lytro for $99, Jawbone Up24 for $113, Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB for $199

Along with the Nexus 7 (2013) deal we highlighted this morning through Woot!, we have a handful of discounted tech goodies for shoppers to consider over at eBay.

We are talking the original Lytro 8GB camera for $99, a camera that originally arrived at around $300. Not familiar with Lytro? Think of it as one of the cameras that started this whole refocus-after-the-fact trend that most smartphone cameras are trying to mimic these days. Lytro uses light from all angles to capture shots that can be refocused countless times or have their perspective tweaked. The original Lytro is certainly a niche product, but the technology could become something major in the future. At $99, this seems like a steal.

If cameras aren’t your thing, fitness seekers can pickup a Jawbone UP24 fitness tracker for $113 (I just did!), which is close to a $40 discount. Finally, tablet buyers who want more than 16GB of storage have the option of choosing a Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB for $199. This is a refurbished model.  (more…)

Deal: Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB for $129 on eBay Deals, $100 Off

Another Friday, another deal on the Nexus 7 (2013). In today’s price slashing, you are looking at the 16GB WiFi model for $129, which is $100 cheaper than a brand new retail unit through Google Play. You also get free standard shipping with purchase.

This unit has been “manufacturer refurbished,” so it is not brand new.

This may be the best deal we have seen yet for last year’s Nexus 7-incher. Even though it is a year old, and Google decided not to give us a 2014 model, the N7 is one hell of a tablet that still has at least a good year of updates ahead of it. Keep in mind that this is the version that has an Android L developer preview available to it, in case that interests you.

Deal: Cheap 32GB Nexus 7 (2013) is Back for $159.99, $110 Off

Nexus 7 (2013) deals seem to be showing up almost daily at pretty incredible prices. Today, is yet another example of the 2013 7-incher seeing a significant discount that you may want to consider if you have yet to jump into the tablet game. For $159.99, with free shipping, you can have the 32GB variant of Google’s popular tablet, which would save you around $110 (regularly $269) over the Google Play retail price. Actually, it will save you more since Google’s shipping costs are never cheap.

The tablet is “manufacturer refurbished,” though, so you are not looking at a brand new device. With that said, keep in mind that some consider refurbished devices to be quite good, since manufacturers have had a chance to button up long-standing issues.

“Cast Screen” Button Now Works for Screen Mirroring to Chromecast

This morning, Google announced that screen mirroring via Chromecast is now in public beta and would be available via the Chromecast app over the coming days. If you own a Nexus, you can start casting immediately without the Chromecast app. Thanks to built-in “Cast Screen” support that you have likely seen show up from time to time over the last couple of months in your Quick Settings Panel, a separate app isn’t needed.

Once Google announced that Chromecast mirroring was live, I watched as the “Cast Screen” button on both my Nexus 5 (running Android L) and Nexus 4 (running Android 4.4.4) went live. With a simple tap on that button, a menu appeared with nearby Chromecasts that were available to cast to. Once tapped, I was immediately connected and began mirroring my phone’s display through Chromecast.  (more…)

Deal: Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi 32GB for $159 From eBay

Another week, another Nexus 7 (2013) deal to be had through eBay. Today’s is for a “like new condition manufacturer refurbished” version with 32GB of storage and WiFi-only connectivity, priced at $159.99 with free standard shipping and a 90-day warranty. The regular retail price for this model through Google Play is $269.99, but Google currently doesn’t even have it in stock.

While it may not be brand new, you are looking at manufacturer refurbishing that has dropped the price by $110. Not a bad deal if you are looking to enter the tablet game, pick up a 2nd for around the house, or flash the Android L preview.
