Nexus devices including the Nexus 5, Nexus 4, and variants of the Nexus 7 were receiving an OTA update last week to build number KOT49E of Kit Kat, Android 4.4.1. The update is now available for Nexus 10 tablet owners, who can either wait for the update to roll out or simply sideload the file using adb. Either way, when you own a Nexus, it’s nice to have options. (more…)
To round out our coverage of the official Android 4.4 (KRT16S) updates for the Nexus line, we’ve now got Nexus 10 files for you. Should your device not have received the device over-the-air, you can always sideload it. With that said, I just turned mine on for the first time in quite a while and it automatically pulled the update. I’d say we are pretty close to a full rollout. To check, head into Setttings>About tablet>System updates.
Over the weekend, every single person concerned about an upcoming Nexus 10 tablet was thrown a heavy curveball. Since rumors began of a new Nexus 10, there has been little confirmation as to which OEM would produce the next rendition, with leaks coming from both ASUS and Samsung in a battle for production. Interestingly enough, new material has popped up by way of Reddit, which actually points to LG being the manufacturer. (more…)
Uh oh, the 16GB version of the Nexus 10 is showing as “out of inventory” on Google Play. Go ahead, say it, “New Nexus 10 incoming!” Feel better? But is it? Well, we think so, assuming Google decides to push out Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5 through either a press release or at some sort of press event. All rumors certainly point to there also being a Nexus 10 involved in the winter get-together for Google. At least, that’s what happened last year. (more…)
Guess what? We are only a month away from Black Friday, which means we are only two months away from Holiday season! Yes, I’m being that guy, but I also want to help because last year you said you would start shopping earlier. If you need a present for a tech-lover in your life, check out this 32GB Nexus 10 from Woot! (more…)
Invites haven’t gone out or anything, but we’d be shocked if Google wasn’t preparing for some sort of Fall event to unveil Android 4.4 “Kit Kat,” a new Nexus phone (likely the Nexus 5), and potentially even a smartwatch (internally known as “Gem”?) or new Nexus 10. We know for sure that Android 4.4 is coming, and that a Nexus 5 has already stopped by the FCC, but other mysteries remain.
For example, what will Kit Kat bring that was worthy of an entire name change? Will there be massive UI changes, new services that we have yet to unravel, or something else under the hood that will magically make updates easier for OEMs? And what about that Nexus 5 that we seem to think we know so many details for? Will Google still find a way to surprise us? Will the price be as shocking as that attached to the original Nexus 4?
And let’s not forget that beyond the new Nexus phone and Android 4.4, there is a chance we see even more. Are you excited to see what Google can do with a smartwatch or have you seen enough from that niche thanks to Pebble and Samsung? Does something like a Nexus 10 refresh have you all hot and sweaty? Does Google have something else up its sleeve that we haven’t quite put our fingers on?
In the poll below, give us your quick vote as usual, but then take to the comments to tell us which new potential Google announcement you are most excited for.
