At this year’s MWC event in Barcelona, Samsung continued their winning streak by taking home a few important pieces of new hardware. As voted on by the board, Samsung was awarded five top honors including Best Smartphone for the Galaxy S3 and Device Manufacturer of the Year. 

Even the Galaxy Camera took home a prize for Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronics Device.

• Device Manufacturer of the Year – Samsung

Now that we have HTC’s One event out of the way, the next big event to look forward to is Mobile World Congress. ASUS is taking its turn on the marketing campaign hypewagon for the upcoming show with this latest video. Shot from the perspective of shocked onlookers, Barcelona is taken over by a flying “metallic miracle.” 

The video is devoid of anything as far as specs or names go, but ASUS promises “ultimate craftmanship, today.” This is just a short teaser video in a series of videos to come so we might get more information down the road. Let’s hope that ASUS doesn’t roll out something in full chrome like their aliens in the video.

ASUS Teases a “Metallic Miracle” at MWC In This Cloverfield-Style Video is a post from: Droid Life

Starting next week, the mobile landscape will change greatly as LG is set to announce and show off their new 2013 smartphone lineup at MWC in Barcelona. While we have already seen their new Optimus G Pro in the flesh, this new teaser video hints that we might be seeing a couple of mystery devices as well. 

As you will notice in the video, they put emphasis on a few letters such as G, F, and V. What each letters means, whether they stand for the the name of a new device or something along those lines, who knows.

As for OEM’s teasing devices, I’m about worn out after HTC’s month-long campaign.

LG Posts Lineup Teaser Video Ahead of MWC is a post from: Droid Life

Yesterday, LG took to Facebook to tease their next mobile product in the most vague and generic of ways. In fact, all the teaser image said was “New series will be unveiled,” only they forgot to mention a where, when, or what. Well, they finished off the teaser today by posting up a new video to YouTube that confirms it will be a product unveiling at MWC later this month. 

In the teaser, we see a lot of screen splitting and slicing, though I’m not sure I’m willing to take that as a reference to a razer thin design or something along those lines. What we do know for sure is that “Breakthrough will be made at MWC 2013.” Wait, is that even a sentence? The device will also be premium, stylish, creative, speedy, powerful, and fresh, while making a world of difference.

Maybe it’s the 5.5″ Optimus G Pro that we saw pictured this morning.

Feel free to watch it and see if they have hidden some secret message deep within that we aren’t figuring out.

LG Teases MWC Unveiling With “Unlimited Possibilities” is a post from: Droid Life

In a bit of sad news for anyone hoping to see a major Android presence at the 2013 MWC like we have seen in past years, Google France has gone ahead and crushed those dreams. In a recent statement, a company spokesman confirmed that there will not be an Android booth in Barcelona, but the Android team will be on hand to support their OEM partners. 

Previously, Google has spared zero expense on making sure they had one of the best booths of all time. There have been smoothie bars, claw games with Android plushies, and almost any Android gadget you could think of.

This is something we might bring up on tonight’s show, but it is starting to become clear that many companies have recently shied away from major industry shows, such as CES, and are now opting for their own major events. Will this trend continue? Who knows.

Google: You Won’t Be Seeing an Android Booth at This Year’s MWC is a post from: Droid Life

Watch out, folks, Intel is bringing their A game to MWC in Barcelona later this month. According to a press release, we can look forward to the Intel showing off their new dual-core Atom Z2420 processors for smartphones running Android. As far as specs on the chips, there is not much to speculate on yet. Intel previously launched the RAZR i with Motorola, but we haven’t heard much about that device since its initial launch.

Can we expect Intel to be able to compete with Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and Samsung going into 2013?

Intel to Show Off Dual-Core Atom Z2420 Processors at This Year’s MWC is a post from: Droid Life

More pictures of the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 have leaked, but so far they are leaving us with more questions than we had before. Mainly, where does this device fit in with the Note 10.1, Note 2 and the Galaxy Tab series? Shouldn’t the upcoming 7″ Tab 3 be enough? Another question: Samsung, do you really expect anyone to use this as a phone? It does have a telephone app in the bottom left corner, so try holding this to your ear and not getting made fun of.

All sarcasm aside, it looks that this device will in fact be announced at MWC in a few weeks. The French site, Frandroid, got their hands on the device and reported the specs including a 1280 x 800 LCD display, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, 2GB of RAM, a microSD card reader, cameras on the front and back, and a 4,600 mAh battery. Nowhere did they mention if it comes with a Bluetooth headset for those phone calls, but we sincerely hope it does.

Is anyone interested in another Note at this point? No one will really make any phone calls on this, will they?
