Moto G5 Plus on Verizon Can’t Call 911 With VoLTE Enabled, Fix Incoming (Updated)

A quick PSA here for Moto G5 Plus owners using the phone on Verizon: turn off VoLTE for the time being or you may not be able to place emergency 911 calls.

We were first tipped about this issue earlier in the week from someone who attempted to make multiple 911 calls during an emergency and couldn’t, but Lenovo and Motorola have now confirmed it. Through a forum post on Lenovo’s site, their forums manager says that they will be issuing a fix for the issue next week. He also offered a temporary tweak that will allow you to place 911 calls.  (more…)

Moto G5 Plus Review

It has been a couple of years since we last reviewed a Moto G phone, so even though we don’t always drop down to the mid-tier range, it felt like a good time to make a return before Samsung’s new ridiculously expensive products arrive. This time, it’s the Moto G5 Plus, a phone that is going to give a whole bunch of phones a run for their money, money that probably doubles what Motorola wants to charge you for this guy.

To recap, the Moto G5 Plus is the upgraded version of the Moto G5 that will be sold here in the US. In other words, there is no Moto G5 here, only this guy, the Plus. It has a 5.2-inch FHD LCD display (1080p), Snapdragon 625 processor, 12MP f/1.7 camera, fingerprint reader, microSD support, water repellent coating, 3000mAh non-removable battery, and connectivity on all major US carriers. Depending on how much you want to spend, you get to choose between 32GB or 64GB storage and either 2GB or 4GB RAM.

I’ve spent the past couple of weeks with the 64GB/4GB model and have a whole bunch of thoughts to share about it. Let’s do this right now – this is our Moto G5 Plus review.  (more…)

We All Need More of What Moto and the Snapdragon 625 are Cookin’

If you are in the market for a new phone and want the most bang for your buck without breaking the bank, a Motorola phone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor should be a combination you consider. Honestly, it should almost be the only combination to consider if you care more about battery life than anything else in a phone.

I’ve talked about my love for the Moto Z Play on a handful of occasions, a phone that does indeed run a 625. I’ve talked about it so much because the battery life on that phone is something I’ve never experienced before in all my years testing smartphones. But now, Motorola has a new Snapdragon 625 device, the Moto G5 Plus. Sure, it lacks NFC and is one of the ugliest phones you’ll ever touch (at least the gold model is), but it’s the only phone I’ve found that comes close to the Z Play in terms of battery life, yet it also undercuts the Z Play’s price by more than $100.  (more…)

Where to Buy the Moto G5 Plus in the US?

The Moto G5 Plus is official for March 31 in the US. We already talked about the screaming deals on it you can get at Amazon if you are cool with some Amazon ads, but the phone is available at numerous other retailers. You’ll be able to buy this new mid-tier value beast at places like Best Buy, Fry’s, NewEgg, Target, and even Walmart.

Just like at Amazon, the Moto G5 Plus starts at $229 with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, but you can double that goodness to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage for $299.

We’ll review the Moto G5 Plus eventually, but on paper it sure looks like a heck of a value. For more, including specs, hit up this post. If you’d like to pre-order right away, there are plenty of links below.  (more…)

Here is the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus: Pics, Specs, and Everything Else

So um, Motorola is hosting a press event at MWC in a week to unveil a new product or two. We’re pretty sure those new products will be the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. We are assuming that because leaks for each are starting to flow with regularity, but also because retailers are posting up entire listings for the devices, fit with pictures, specs, and everything else you might need to know.
