MIUI, one of our all-time favorite ROMs, was updated this weekend to Jelly Bean and then released for a couple of our favorite devices of all time. The Galaxy Nexus (both LTE and GSM) and Nexus 7 each received a build that apparently has little to no issues or bugs. The changelog itself is massive, however, it doesn’t dive into many new features per se. The upgrade from ICS to JB appears to be more of a bug fixer than anything.

Instructions:

1. Download the ROM to your device’s internal storage.
2. Reboot into recovery and create a backup.
3. Wipe data and cache.
4. Choose the .zip file through recovery and flash it.

*Thoughts – It’s definitely still MIUI, just as you have grown to expect. Google Now is included since it’s Jelly Bean. I’ve noticed a notification bar bug already, along with a lengthy drop from 4G to 3G. Overall, the build is really polished and looks stellar, but it’ll take some time before I can tell if it’s incredibly stable or not.

The MIUI team released their official launcher onto the Play Store for 2.3+ and 4.0+ devices. If you are unfamiliar with MIUI, what the team is well known for is making Android look like a completely new OS with flavors taken from all over the place. To some, the lack of a dedicated app drawer reminds them of iOS, but MIUI is much more than an iOS clone.

With this launcher you are able to choose from countless themes, classy wallpapers, and awesome icon packs that are sure to turn your snoozefest device into one you would be happy to show off to friends and family. Included with the launcher is also the MIUI Locker which is a separate lockscreen app that is quite sexy. It’s always a good time to spruce up your homescreens.

If you have been a fan of the MIUI series of custom ROMs since the OG DROID days, then you will be happy to hear that an official build is now available for the Galaxy Nexus. There have been a few hacked versions out there, but this comes straight from MIUI and is fully functioning, which means no bugs should be present. MIUI has been compared to the look and feel of an iOS device since there is no app drawer, but in reality, it’s still the Ice Cream Sandwich you know and love. For those new to MIUI, think of it as a fully themed and feature rich skin for Android. I know that we talk about OEM skins and how awful they are, but MIUI takes Android and adds a ton of customizations to it. And if you really need an app drawer, just download NOVA or Apex launcher.

Instructions for installation:

Download MIUI.us_toro_2.3.2 and place on your phone’s storage.

Reboot in to ClockworkMod Recovery.

Create Nandroid backup.

Wipe data/cache.

Install ROM.

Reboot and enjoy.

The wait for MIUI on the HTC Thunderbolt has finally come to an end. The ROM has been there, but data was the missing link. Big thanks to erishasnobattery who cracked the problem that has plagued everyone since work on a MIUI port first began. For those in the, “What the heck is MIUI?” category, MIUI is a custom ROM built on top of Android with a completely different interface. Some users say it resembles iOS, but some others say it is just a minimal look. Whatever the look is, it has been one of the most downloaded and used custom ROMs in Android’s history, probably right behind CyanogenMod.

If you want to try it out, then go click the via down below and give it a go. Make sure to read directions and make backups.

Had a hard time wrapping your brain around a MIUI phone actually making its way onto store shelves over in China? It’s the real deal, folks. A video of the device has surfaced on YouTube, showing off every little crevice of its 1.5GHz dual-core, 1GB RAM, 4″, MIUI-running self. Oh, and if this still doesn’t look legit enough, we’re seeing that the Engadget team is on the scene of the announcement event which appears to be going on right now. Tasty little MIUI morsel.

MIUI is an amazing custom ROM choice for Android users, as it brings its own list of features to the table, just like CyanogenMod. Both are in different leagues of their own. Up on the MIUI website, they have pictures, and a full spec sheet of a phone that is going to be manufactured by an overseas company. The phone looks great, and we are hoping this is not a dream.

Here is the full list of features as stated:

Hardware:

- Unlocked bootloader!
- Android 2.3.5 pre-loaded (MIUI ROM)
- Sharp capacitive 4 inch screen at 480 x 854 res 16:9
- Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 (MSM8260)
- 4GB ROM
- 1GB RAM
- Up to 32GB Micro-SD card support
- 8MP Rear Camera
- Noise-cancelling microphone
- 1930mAH battery! +30% on standard 1500mAH
- GPS (U.S. GPS and Russian GLONASS;)
- Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth connectivity
- 266MHz Adreno220 GPU
- 125 * 63 * 11.9 (mm)
- GSM / WCDMA bands

Other specs:

- x3 Capacitive touch buttons (Menu, Desktop, Back key)
- Side USB (micro) port
- Volume button (side)
- Powerbutton (side)
- MI-Button (Customisable button for application of your choice)
- 149g weight

Accessories:

- Interchangable back covers in variety of different colours. (currently 7 with more to follow)
- Other “MI” Accessories to be launched such as phone stand.

Price set: ￥1999

So we’re looking at a 4 inch, 1.5 GHz processor, GSM/WCDMA, and an unlocked bootloader? Where do we sign up? With a price of around $300, that’s not too bad. We would expect more just for the unlocked bootloader.

If this phone comes to fruition, who would purchase just for nostalgia? Fingers crossed everybody!

You all know MIUI by now, don’t you? This would be one of the few ROMs that actually gives you a completely new user experience. We released the port of the new overhaul last week for the original DROID, but today, it’s all about the DROIDX and DROID2. This has been one of those ROMs that wouldn’t make its way onto either device because of its stingy bootloader. Well, thanks to our boy @cvpcs who figured out his 2nd-init magic for some CM7 goodness, we now have MIUI. Huge props to the MIUI team (Frameworks43) for getting this out to us.

Download: DROIDX | DROID2

Instructions:

1. Drop on .zip on SD card.
2. Boot into recovery and make a backup.
3. Wipe data/factory reset.
4. Load up MIUI.
5. Enjoy!

Someone saw our story earlier today about the newest MIUI UI, and it just so happened to be a developer for MIUI. Now here we are with the download link to get it on your DROID today! I flashed it myself on the old but reliable OG, and it’s definitely going to stay there for quite some time while I play with all the new features.

It has everything that has made MIUI what it is today, with some amazing polishes. Just download the zip and place it on your SD card, then flash using Clockwork Recovery. Please make sure to have a backup of your previous ROM, then wipe data/cache. Let us know what you think, cause so far, we’re really impressed.

MIUI is one of the few complete UI changes you can make to your Android device. It’s a ROM that once installed, switches up the entire OS, making it mostly look like iOS in our opinion, but one that has been incredibly popular. It made its first big splash back in September 2010, so we’re excited to see the improvements that the MIUI team will unveil next week to this already clean and completely smooth/working ROM.

MIUI is available for most devices, and from their site you can see if a developer has ported it to your phone. In most cases, if your phone has root, then you can enjoy some MIUI love. Anyone here using it already? If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go.

Since root and S-OFF have been achieved on the DROID Incredible 2, we’re starting to see the first batch of ROMs appear for it which includes CM7 and MIUI. As the two most popular on the planet (arguably), this should be taken as a good sign that the development community is ready to accept this device into the family.

We’ve said this a number of times now, but it truly is one of our top 2 devices of 2011 from Verizon (our review). We were worried about it initially with the discovery that it had a locked bootloader, but all that has changed now even if it does lack 4G LTE.

If you are brave enough to attempt to flash one of the new ROMs, you can find full instructions on how to root and get you going through the CyanogenMod Wiki. (And a MIUI link)

The serious workaholics over at the MIUI Forums are doing something right. Only they could get me to run a somewhat Apple UI on my OG Droid. “Tim, what the heck are you doing?!?” is something that I’m expecting to hear, but let me tell you something – I really enjoy this! They have reinvented the way I use my phone….again! With an insane amount of themes (easily switchable) what more could you ask for?

Back in September we featured an awesome video showing off what MIUI had to offer, but now, this version which we are showcasing here is for the Original DROID 1 only. Be on the lookout for different versions for you favorite device. It has some insane features currently not availble for anything else. You’ll find tons of toggles in the pull down bar, changeable lockscreen wallpaper, black and white list of phone numbers, whole new phone.apk UI, etc. etc. My list goes on.

So let me layout some installation instructions for all you curious cats…

Again, this is for OG DROID only

1. Download zip and place on root of SD Card. MIUI Full ROM
2. Boot into Recovery and make a Backup. Because you never know!
3. After backup, wipe data/cache. Full factory reset.
4. Install ROM from SD and choose the MIUI zip.

After installation, enjoy your new phone!

Got any probelems? Questions? Concerns? Cats?? Then ask away in the #droidlife IRC channel or here in our very helpful comment section! Thanks!

-Tim-o-tato

Huge thanks to the entire MIUI Team and especially metiCkOne, Jamezelle, n_i_x and MarkHUK. See their original post HERE.

You can find the wallpaper featured in the Droid Life Wallpaper App and that clock is just Beautiful Widgets.

Just last week an XDA Forum member took the time to translate the Miren “Charming Browser” (aka MIUI browser) into English for all of us to enjoy and this week, the company behind it decided to release an official version. While it’s not in the market yet, it will be after we all test it for a bit and report concerns to the source thread linked below.

Changes to this version:

- English translation
- Adjustment of Top sites
- Remove certain feature not ready for English version
- Add user agent support (in Settings->Advanced->Web page)

Download: Miren.OfficialEnglish.apk

And I noticed in the comments on the previous post for this that some of you were concerned about Flash support. I can confirm that Flash does indeed work, at least on embedded Youtube videos anyway.

Again, be sure to drop comments or concerns in the comments and at the source thread below.

The MIUI ROM just won’t go away and now we even have themers taking their turns at customizing it. We showed you a quick video walkthrough of this Asian sensation ROM earlier this week, so it only seemed fitting that we bring you a theme to go along with it. From our boy Bgill55, comes Zenito MIUI 1.0, the dark take on this epic ROM.

Download: Zenito_MIUI_v1.0.zip

Instructions:

*Original Droid only.

1. Flash the Zen-MIUI V2.0 ROM from our post earlier this week.
2. Flash the fix file. (Open ROM Manager>Install ROM from SD card>Select the file.)
3. Download the Zenito_MIUI_V1.0.zip file from above to your SD card.
4. Open ROM Manager, select “Install ROM from SD Card” and choose the Zenito file.
5. Check the box to make a backup if you’d like, SKIP “wipe data and cache.”
6. Your phone will reboot and apply the Zenito theme.
7. When it boots you may run into a couple of force closes. Here is the fix:

a. Open Settings>Apps>Manage Apps>”All”
b. Clear data for “Contacts Storage” and “Google Framework Services”.

8. Enjoy your themed MIUI!

I don’t really know where to start with this ROM, but it’s something that floated around Youtube for a few days and seems to have taken the ROM world by storm. MIUI is a Chinese ROM that was initially revealed on the Nexus One and was then quickly ported by US developers to every other device on the planet. It has a ton of features that would be nice to see on both stock Android and other custom ROMs even if it looks similar to the i*hone.

Almost every thing should work and if ROMs are super interesting to you, then I suggest that you check this out even for a few minutes. It’s running Android 2.2 and a Chevy kernel so you can overclock it.

Video and instructions after the break. Enjoy!

Video Action:

Instructions:

1. Download the MIUI ROM to your Droid: Zen_MIUI-v2.zip
2. Open ROM Manager and choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
3. Choose the Zen_MIUI-v2.zip file you just downloaded.
4. When prompted, check BOTH boxes for making a backup and wiping data/cache.
5. Your phone will reboot, make a backup, wipe and install the MIUI ROM.
6. It should reboot if finished successfully. Enjoy your random ROM!

If you run into a dialer force close issue, check out this fix. Simply flash the file in Clockwork just as you did with the ROM. No wipe necessary.
