If you happen to be in the market for an affordable Android tablet, plus you don’t find yourself worrying about the amount of cores your processor has or what your display’s pixel density is, then maybe check out ASUS’ new 7″ MeMo Pad.

For those familiar, and if you are reading this site I would hope you are very familiar, think of it as a Nexus 7 tablet minus a few of the specs. The MeMo pad rocks a 1GHz single-core VIA WM8950 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 1-megapixel front-facing shooter and Android 4.1.

It may not sound like much, but they are offering the device at just $160. However, keep in mind you can spend an additional $40 and get yourself a 16GB Nexus 7. Needless to say, nothing wrong with having some options while shopping.

Buy. ($160)

Cheers Ryan and Scott!

This morning, ASUS’s budget-friendly MeMo Pad 7″ is finally official. We have seen plenty of render leaks and spec leaks, but we are sort of surprised that they have gone ahead and launched the device right before MWC. Either way, it’s out now, and the specs have not changed since we talked about them previously.

The tablet features a 7″ “HD” display with a resolution of 1024 x 600, runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean, claims to have up to seven hours of battery life, and even has a microSD slot. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think ASUS is misusing the term, “HD.” That resolution might be HD for something such as a calculator or possibly even a toaster. And get this, the MeMo Pad is perfect for helping the youth vandalize our cities one wall at a time. Check out 0:43 in their promo video, as an apparent juvenile defiles a public wall with graffiti art. Thanks, ASUS!

But in all seriousness, what are your thoughts on the MeMo Pad? We know it’s a cheap tablet, said to be priced at $150 and due out in retailers sometime soon, but that doesn’t mean it’s cheaply made. We wish it had a better display, because at such a low resolution, I wouldn’t even think to pick one up. What do you think?

We scarcely speak of ASUS’s budget-friendly MeMo Pad lineup because frankly, we simply read our comments section. No one seems all that interested. But with these new press renders of the MeMo Pad 10 hitting the web, it sort of has us second guessing our own initial reactions to the lineup. I mean come on, look at that smooth backside.

On top of the overall elegant look the MeMo Pad 10 gives off in these images, the device looks extremely thin in comparison to last year’s Transformer models. We previously posted up an unboxing of the device, but since posting, the video has gone private. Figures. We have little to go off of in terms of specs, but we do know it features a 10.1 IPS display at a resolution of 1280 x 800, is powered by a Tegra 3 chip, sports two cameras, and runs Android 4.1 out of the box.

ASUS is apparently ready to unveil both the MeMo Pad 7 and MeMo Pad 10 at MWC this year. That should be exciting for some.

What would this slate need to be priced at for you to be interested? $250? Lower?

It was the original ASUS MeMo 7 that ended up becoming Google’s best selling Android tablet to-date, the Nexus 7. After that disappeared we weren’t sure that we would see another tablet from the MeMo line until recently when the 7″ low-end tablet was re-announced. If you were looking to be blown away by specs though, that tablet was not for you. However, a new 10″ MeMo Pad has surfaced and is looking to be better equipped.

The video doesn’t show much save for ASUS‘ light skin on top of an unspecified version of Jelly Bean, but everything done on the tablet looks snappy and silky smooth. No specs are mentioned anywhere about processor, screen or memory that is packed inside, but it’s looking highly likely that this device will be officially announced at Mobile World Congress coming up in a few weeks. Then we should have all the information we need on this MeMo Pad 10 to see if it’s actually worth buying.

Remember the story we posted about ASUS launching a $150 tablet called the MeMo Pad? Well, some guy over in Europe now has one and is giving everyone a quick look at the new tablet. Unsurprisingly, it looks very much like a Nexus 7, but sports a white back like the Google I/O editions that attendees received. That’s a plus.

The specs are still nothing to go crazy over. It is powered by a 1GHz VIA WM8950 processor, low-res 1024 x 600 7″ display, Android 4.1.1, and 1GB of RAM. Priced at $150, it would be hard not to just tell people to spend the extra $50 and go for the Nexus device instead.

There is a little gallery and full hands-on video below. Enjoy.

This evening, ASUS is introducing the MeMo Pad, a lower-end device that is sure to get anyone looking to save some cash on a tablet extremely happy. Priced at just $150 for 8GB, the MeMo Pad doesn’t rank high on the list in terms of specs, but will certainly be able to get through any type of multi-tasking you can throw at it.

The 7″ tablet features a 1GHz VIA WM8950 processor with Mali-400 GPU, Android 4.1, 1024 x 600 screen resolution, 1GB of RAM, 8GB and 16GB storage options, as well as an SD card slot for even further storage capabilities. It will come available in three different colors – white, grey, and pink.

ASUS has announced that the device will go on sale here in the US sometime in April, but with other markets seeing launch this month. Now again, this device is no Nexus 7, but is more aimed at the novice Android tablet owner who is looking for a basic experience. Nothing too fancy, but at $150, that’s still pretty great.

Anyone interested in a $150 beginners’ tablet?
