Hey, look at that! It’s the LG Lucid, a Verizon 4G LTE device that we first reported on back in February as the LG Cayman. From what we know, it is a mid-range dual-core device that probably won’t gain the interest of many tech diehards. It doesn’t match up in specs to the LG Spectrum, so look for this to be an affordable offering, sort of like what we saw with the Samsung Stratosphere. And moving on.
Back in mid-February, our sources told us to expect both a white and dark version of the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon with 16GB of storage in the coming months. We weren’t given a specific date at that time, however, it appears now as if Big Red has chosen one according to a new device launch schedule. April 5 is the current target for those looking to enter the Nexus game at a lower price point than it currently sits. With the slashing of storage from 32GB to 16GB, we wouldn’t be surprised if the price dropped to $199 on contract, similarly to what has happened with the DROID RAZR. (more…)
A couple of weeks ago, we first reported two new devices that were headed to Verizon as the LG Cayman and DROID Fighter. That report included the same dates you are seeing above of 3/29 for the Cayman and 4/12 for the Fighter, but were then only listed as “workshop” times rather than release dates. According to new information that we received, those are indeed targeted release dates.
We should point out that the LG Cayman is likely the Lucid 4G that we reported on last night. The DROID Fighter is still a mystery for now.
You will also see the HTC Fireball listed without a date, a device that our sources are now referring to as the Incredible 4G. A device by the name of Samsung Plato is listed as well, and is one we haven’t seen mentioned since last August. Knowing that it was rumored all of the way back then, we would be surprised if this was anything other than a mid-range device. Then again, “Plato” would be a nice codename for a Galaxy type device.
While Verizon was quiet during MWC (which they almost always are), they do still have plans for the next couple of months. The first part of March could be slow unless they decide to drop the Incredible 4G on is within the next couple of weeks.
How about a peak into the future as we end our week? According to sources of ours, Verizon’s next few phone releases will include the DROID Incredible 4G (formerly the HTC Fireball), the LG Lucid 4G, and another version of the DROID RAZR in blue of all colors.
With the Fireball switching to its retail name of “Incredible 4G,” it should be safe to say that the leaked HTC device we saw pictured a few weeks back is indeed the same device. With an Incredible-esque back plate and a Verizon 4G LTE logo on the boot screen, this is probably your next phone in the Incredible line. What we have to ask now is whether or not this phone will be as underwhelming at launch as it sounded back when it leaked. Previous rumors had it with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a Super AMOLED screen instead of Super LCD, 8MP rear camera, VGA front shooter, and Ice Cream Sandwich. I know that on paper those specs don’t look awful, but after seeing HTC announce the One XL for AT&T with a Snapdragon S4 clocked at 1.5GHz and a Super LCD2 display, they aren’t going to impress anyone. We’ll be crossing our fingers that those rumored specs were wrong and Verizon will surprise us with a similar device to the One series.
Our sources also confirmed to us that a new device by LG is coming called the Lucid 4G along with a blue DROID RAZR. No word on if the RAZR is a MAXX or not. The LG phone is likely the LG Cayman that we first reported a few weeks back and could be a mid-range 4G device since the Spectrum is their big dog for the first half of this year on Verizon.
