Download: Samsung Galaxy S Live Wallpapers for your Droid

Another day, another ported app from another Android device.  Yep, we’re laughing at you Apple.

Who wants the new live wallpapers which can be found on the new Samsung Galaxy S?  These feel a little more artsy than some of the live wallpapers we’ve seen in the past on Android devices, but I must say that they are very impressive.  While the jury is still out on whether or not the Droid and Nexus One can run these efficiently, feel free to give them a shot and put your overclocked baby to the test.

*Rooted users only.*

Instructions…

1.  Download this file to your SD Card:  signed-SamsungLWPs.zip
2.  Open ROM Manager and choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
3.  Navigate to the location of the file you just downloaded and tap on it.
4.  Choose “OK” when prompted.
5.  Skip “wipe data and cache” and make a backup if you’d like.
6.  Phone will reboot into recovery and work its magic.
7.  When it boots back up, go into Menu>Wallpapers>Live Wallpapers.

Let me know if you run into any issues.  Also, let me know if your 1.0+GHz Droid handles these any better than my Droid on a stock kernel did.

Big thanks again to the guys at XDA Forums for putting this together!

Exclusive: New Droid 2 and Droid X Live Wallpaper

Check out another exclusive we just received of the Motorola Droid 2 and its new live wallpaper. I have to admit that part of me is leaning toward this actually being the live wallpaper you’ll see with the Droid X as this is the same Droid 2 which we got the boot animation and first shots of.  If you followed our Droid red eye spiel, then you’ll know that boot animation is the one you’ll see with the Droid X next month.

And back to the live paper!  Apologies up front for the quality, but you can clearly see the eye rotating with some sort of cloud surrounding it.  Lovin’ it…

Who can’t wait for Wednesday when this all becomes official?

Beautiful Widgets Live Wallpaper Released

Beautiful Widgets was updated today and included a special prize if you ventured into the app’s settings.  The developer behind one of the most successful apps ever, created a live wallpaper to compliment BW called Beautiful Live Weather.

This new live wallpaper pulls up your local weather and streams it across the background.  Pretty cool right?  Oh, and it works even better if you have Beautiful Widgets installed.

*Side Note* - I know that many of you are reporting that you cannot see the app in the market.  Try our direct link below from your phone’s browser.  There is also word from the dev that they will be posting the apk tomorrow.  It’s free so I’d think about posting it, but I’m not sure everyone involved would be that excited about that.

Release: Droid Life White Live Wallpaper

For about a month now, I’ve been asking people to make a black HelixLauncher 1 to go over the top of of a white Neural Network live wallpaper and no one seemed interested in the task.  So instead of waiting any longer, it was time to just dig right in and make it happen.  And here we go!  The first ever Droid Life White Live Wallpaper is ready for your use! Unfortunately though, this is only for rooted users at this time.  (The goal is to work with someone with some real app knowledge and get this bad boy released to everyone…maybe next week.)

Now hang with me on these instructions as they look quite lengthy, but really aren’t that bad.

Live Wallpaper Installation…

*Note 1* – This process is performed using Root Explorer.  Download it from the market.

*Note 2* – This process will replace the LiveWallpapers.apk in your /system/app/ folder.  It is a good idea to move the stock one to another folder for safe keeping.

1.  You have to be rooted.  (Instructions for rooting here.)
2.  Download this file to your SD card:  LiveWallpapers.apk
3.  Open Root Explorer and find the LiveWallpapers.apk you just downloaded.
4.  Long press on the file and select “move.”
5.  Navigate to /system/app/ and press the Mount R/W button at the top.
6.  Then press “paste” in the bottom left corner.
7.  If it asks you to overwrite a previous LiveWallpapers.apk, allow it to.
8.  Long press on your pasted LiveWallpapers.apk and select “Permissions.”
9.  Next to User, check the boxes for “Read” and “Write” and then “OK.”
10.  Hit the Mount R/O button at the top and back out of Root Explorer.
11.  Reboot your phone.
12.  Open up your live wallpaper settings and select the “Nexus” live wallpaper.
13.  Done!

HelixLauncher1 Black Installation…

*Note 1* – Before doing this, you need to copy your HelixLauncher apk to the /system/app/ folder.  You can find it using Root Explorer in /data/app/.

1.  You have to be rooted.  (Instructions for rooting here.)
2.  Download and install MetaMorph from the market.
3.  Download this file to your SD card:  HelixModBlack.zip
4.  Move the file into your “AndroidThemes” folder.
5.  Open MetaMorph.
6.  Click “Unzip/Extract new theme” and choose the HeilxModBlack.zip file.
7.  Select the “HeilxModBlack.xml” file.
8.  Choose the subtheme for whichever HelixLauncher you are using.
9.  Select “Apply it!”, reboot and you are done!

And like I said previously, the goal is to make this an installable apk for everyone to use.  Hang in there non-roots!

Side note:  Any bets on how long it takes before someone chimes in with a “white will kill your battery faster!” comment?

NexusMod 2.0 Live Wallpaper App Available for Droid

NexusMod 2.0, my favorite live wallpaper app, is finally available in the Market for the Motorola Droid running Android 2.1.  While this app has been on the market for the Nexus One and custom ROMs for quite some time, it’s pretty exciting to see it now working on the stock Droid.

Instead of the 1 or 2 color and background options you had after the 2.1 update, this app will give you at least another dozen color combos including the dark background with red runnings lights (my personal fav).  I’ve already purchased the app so all I had to do was update to the new version, but you for the rest of you, it should only be $0.99.  Along with Beautiful Widgets, I consider this one of the more worthwhile apps that you can spend a dollar on.  Definite must have.
