I still enjoy the occasional live wallpaper from time to time, and it’s especially nice when a developer gives a whole new way to look at them. Take Moment Live Wallpaper for example. With Moment, you can take your own videos and turn them into very classy live wallpapers that react to your touch. In the words of the developer, “think Harry Potter newspaper.”

The best way to get an idea for what this app does is to watch their video down below. The developer shows off what appears to be a yellow flower, but as he scrolls, it’s as if your home screens act as a camera that rotates in a 3D environment around it, giving off an incredible effect. You can also set filters, edit frames, and really get creative with clips from your phone that you choose to come alive on your home screens.

The app costs $2 in Google Play, but you’ll see that the price is completely justified with how much inspiration the developer put into the application.

Moment Live Wallpaper Creates Stunning Displays From Your Favorite Videos is a post from: Droid Life

Quality and beautiful live wallpapers do not come along all that often. When they do though, we make sure to share them with you because still to this day, they are one of the most unique features of Android. Today’s hot new addition is called Solar Power, and damn is it pretty and feature packed.

The basic idea here, is that you get to turn the sun into the most stunning sun ever created and then watch it hover at different angles all over your home screen. You can change the color, adjust glare intensity and flare agitation, make it interactive to the touch, change the orbit speed, and most importantly, how it is viewed on your phone. I’ve been engulfed in this thing for the last 20 minutes and am wanting to go back for more to get this thing tweaked perfectly. A great option for live wallpaper fanatics.

The number of customizable options that were included made toying with your wallpaper an entertaining art form. So when we were informed that they had a new release on the way, but with 3D elements, we jumped at it. It’s called Exodus Live Wallpaper and it brings a lot of the joy you experienced through Light Grid, only with 3D blocks that can be tweaked to your liking. It’s interactive to touch, meaning the blocks change direction with your swipe. Live wallpapers, another reason we love Android so much.

We got an app submission from the developer of Grid Live Wallpaper over the weekend and are impressed.  As live wallpaper fanatics, this is right up our alley. Through this app, you can set up a variety of different screens and looks by selecting a picture, color, shape scheme, etc. As you flip through them all, you will see the grid transition that the app derives its name from. The adjustments to make this 100% your own are almost endless in the settings section of the app. It’s very snazzy.  For just 99 cents, Grid Live Wallpaper appears to be worth it.  The app itself reminds us a lot of the Light Grid live wallpapers, which we love.  Go have at it.

Grid Live Wallpaper – Enhancing Your Home Screens One Page at Time is a post from: Droid Life

Our buddy Legion pulled a bunch of goodies from his DROID Bionic last night, one being the Red Eye live wallpaper.  He deodexed and recompiled to make it work on any device running 2.1 or above.  It’s interactive, has a couple of options that can be tweaked to hopefully keep your battery alive for a bit, and brings a piece of a phone that has been 9 months in the making to your home screen.

Today, we look at an app by Sergey Golovanov called Live Wallpaper Flip Clock. I assume people read the post topic and thought,”who uses live wallpapers?”  Well, after about thirty minutes with this app, I can tell you that I do. This app creates an environment unlike most typical live wallpapers. The app has a built in fully functioning weather clock, HTC style. This is the only part of the wallpaper that is actually live. And since the clock is built right into the wallpaper, you don’t lose any space with a widget on your homescreen. Everything else is customizable – backgrounds, type of clock style, color, location, fonts, battery status, temp, forecast, and so on. After running it on my DX and on friends’ TBolts and OGs, I can tell you the battery effect is no more than any other clock widget you may use, but you get the added benefits listed above. There is a free trial version and a paid $2.00 version.

It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of Light Grid Live Wallpaper.  In fact, we haven’t stopped using it since we wrote about it back in December and don’t plan to until something finally tops it.  So today, we aren’t telling you to ditch it, but just wanted to let you know that the developer behind it has another app that works in a similar fashion.  Say “Hello!” to Photile Live Wallpaper.  It has the same Light Grid feel, but instead of just using various shapes, sizes and colors, it lets you add one of your own photos to the background which is then transformed by the grid.

Time and Date Contrast Live Wallpaper just took over my homescreen.  The idea for this clock seems so simple, but that might just be why I’m loving it so much.  I had actually started working on this post last night, but was treated to an update this morning that gives you the ability customize the top and bottom colors to match your current theme which was request #1 from us.  Aside from the colors, the beauty here is really the action between the time and date, which you’ll see when sliding from screen-to-screen giving it an almost 3D feel.  Not bad for a free clock option that doesn’t take up any widget space.

Oh, and the developer is just getting started, so we’ll likely see font options, clock/date options, and who knows what else.  Might want to get in early on this one.

Light Grid live wallpaper is hands down my favorite of all time and I wasn’t sure it could get any better, and then today through a new update, it did.  You will find under themes and in shapes, our favorite robot to play with in any way you please.  You can see from my two screenies above that I went with the classic DroidLife pink and black, but know that you can make it any color scheme you like.

Seriously, if you don’t own Light Grid yet, you need to buy it now.  It’s $.99.  Oh, it looks like you may need the holiday pack as well to unlock the theme and icons and that will cost you another $.99.  Trust me, it’s so worth it.

LightGrid Live Wallpaper Updated, Includes Andy Theme and Shape is a post from: Droid Life

Our buddy Pete Alfonso, who gave everyone the first Gingerbread keyboard port is back, only this time with one of the new live wallpapers from the Nexus S.  The live paper is called Microbes and is a fun replacement for the Nexus light bar one we’ve seen so often.  It’s interactive, looks pretty and seems like a mesh between a Galaxy S paper and one from the original Nexus device.

*Rooted users only.

1.  Download the file from above and drop it on your SD card.
2.  Boot your phone into Clockwork Recovery.

*DROID X and 2 users, you will need to go into “mounts and storage” and “mount system” first.

5.  Select it, install it and enjoy!

Been wanting that new Nexus live wallpaper that comes with Gingerbread and the Nexus S?  You are in luck!  The amazing minds over at the XDA Forums have released it as an .apk file, but only for those of you that are rooted.  You’ll want to make a backup of your LiveWallpapers.apk file which is located in /system/app as this will replace it.  Also, Blur phone users (Droid X and 2) may have to go into “mounts and storage” and “Mount System” if you choose the update.zip method below.

Download:  update.zip or LiveWallpapers.apk

Instructions:

*ROOTED users only.

*Make a backup of your LiveWallpapers.apk file from /system/app.

Using update.zip file:

*Droid X and 2 users, you will need to “mount system” in recovery first.

1.  If you downloaded the update.zip file, you’ll need to drop that on your SD card.
2.  Boot into recovery, choose “install zip from SD card” and then flash the update.zip file.

Using LiveWallpapers.apk:

1.  If you chose the LiveWallpapers.apk, you’ll need to drop that on your SD card.
2.  From there, you’ll open Root Explorer, copy the LiveWallpapers.apk into your /system/app folder.
3.  You will be asked to replace the current LiveWallpapers.apk file in there.  Do it.
4.  Reboot your phone and enjoy!

TAT (The Astonishing Tribe), who gained fame back in early 2010 after releasing a demo of a possible home replacement app coming to Android, returns with a set of simple, yet amazing live wallpapers.  You can tell that the guys at TAT have a sense of humor and work in a fun environment after seeing these 3 in action.

The first is Blue Range, an animal and wilderness filled kingdom that is completely interactive.  The second is Retro Pixels which reacts to incoming text and calls, shakes of your phone and the time of night.  There are even some hidden secrets in Retro that they dare you to find.  Artemia is the third and is my least favorite, but a nice chance from the other two.  It’s a simple ocean paper which includes a variety of creepy sea creatures.

We were just sent a live wallpaper that instantly blew our minds and it’s called VR Tunnel “Free Edition”.  Yep, this bad boy is free and so much mind-boggling fun that you would probably pay $1.99 for it.  It’s so simple, yet so complex and entertaining that I think I just stared at it for 15 minutes straight before pulling away to write this post.  Enjoy.

It appears now as if the Mario Live Wallpaper has taken the Android world by storm and I had no idea it was something new!  So I’m sorry if this appears to be about 2 days late, but when I got the tip on it, I simply said, “Whoa sweet!” while thinking it was something old.  Man, do I feel dumb.
