Instead of continuing our coverage of just CyanogenMod or AOKP, we thought it would be nice for some of you to broaden your custom ROM horizons. If you have never tried or heard of XenonHD and LiquidSmooth, try them out. For starters, XenonHD is based on Jelly Bean 4.1.1 JRO03R and comes with plenty of fantastic tweaks and mods that will impressive any avid flasher. Things such as battery tweaks, speaker tweaks for louder output, and other little goodies are just the start to a huge changelog they posted a couple of days ago. 

As for LiquidSmooth, we’ve written about their work plenty. It’s incredibly fast, smooth (duh), and has many users that would put all of their money on this ROM if it was in the ring against any other. Much like a lot of other ROMs, it comes with countless customization options for colors, forced tablet mode tweaks, and plenty of other things that would take up this whole page if I had the time to write it all.

And while we’re at it, we would like to let you know that just in case you still only care about AOKP, that Build 4 has just gone up. Follow the below links to try out any of the following ROMs I just mentioned. Happy flashing.

Custom ROM Roundup for Galaxy Nexus – AOKP Build 4, XenonHD, and LiquidSmooth is a post from: Droid Life

Yea, we know – it’s been too long. For today’s custom ROM, we have Team Liquid’s Jelly Bean Liquid Smooth Alpha 6 for the Galaxy Nexus. Liquid’s goal is to create the smoothest and fastest ROM’s out there, while also being able to deliver plenty of visual customization options. Some of the custom features include 5 lockscreen targets, a custom kernel for overclocking, and notification bar toggles for those who need instant access to system settings. 

We have laid out the instructions to flash this ROM down below, but please make sure to create a backup and have a rooted device before attempting. If you still have yet to unlock and root your Galaxy Nexus, now would be a good time. You can find instructions for all of that fun, right here.

Instructions:

1. Download ROM zip file (Gapps are included) and place on phone’s storage.
2. Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
3. Create Nandroid backup immediately.
4. Wipe data/cache.
5. Install ROM zip file.
6. Reboot and enjoy.

Custom ROM Friday: Liquid Smooth Alpha 6 for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is a post from: Droid Life

The Liquid series of ROMs are available for a wide assortment of devices. Thanks to a hardworking developer by the name of Liquid0624, many folks have been enjoying them for quite some time and there doesn’t seem to be any slowing down in development. The newest release in the the saga of Liquid is the LiquidSmooth ROM for the Galaxy Nexus.

This ROM stands out for a few reasons: it’s being hyped as one of the fastest ROMs available, is extremely light, super snappy and runs LeanKernel. The zip itself is just 92MB, which is tiny compared to some other ROMs. Google Apps are already baked right into the ROM, so that makes installation a breeze. Look below for our installation guide. 

Installation Instructions:

1. Download zip file and place on device’s storage.
2. Reboot into ClockworkMod and create nandroid backup.
3. Wipe data/cache. (Required)
4. Navigate to LiquidSmooth zip file and hit “Install.”
5. Reboot and enjoy.

Custom ROM Friday: LiquidSmooth Beta 3 For Galaxy Nexus is a post from: Droid Life

If you are still rocking that OG DROID and want to get as close to Gingerbread as you possibly can, then I suggest you check out Liquid’s new Gingerbread 1.0 release.  Built  from CM and Google source, this has all of the goodies to make your phone actually feel like it’s running an official Android 2.3 build.  It comes with a stock kernel that can be clocked up to 1.0GHz, but don’t worry, there are plenty of others out there if you really need to go higher.  Liquid ROMs have been some of the best for the DROID since the beginning and it doesn’t appear as if their team is slowing down any time soon.  Definitely give this one a shot.    

Download:   LGBV1.0.zip

Instructions:

*ORIGINAL DROID ONLY.

1.  Download the file from above and slap in on your SD card
2.  Create a backup in recovery or in ROM Manager
3.  Boot into recovery.
4.  Select “wipe data/factory reset”.
5.  Go into the “partitions menu”.
6.  Format “Boot”.
7.  Format “System”.
8.  Go back to the main screen.
9.  Install zip from sdcard.
10.  Choose zip from sdcard.
11.  Navigate to where you have stored the zip file and select it.
12.  Choose “yes”, let it install and enjoy!
