Even though Larry Page reportedly stopped off at LG HQ in early May to discuss the next Nexus smartphone, LG Mobile’s European VP Kim Won has stated in an interview that his company is not working on what the media has dubbed the “Nexus 5.” While Won and LG consider the Nexus 4 as “a great success despite the production problems,” they do not need another Nexus to remain successful. Over the last year, LG has made a strong climb up the Android ranks, selling personal record numbers of smartphones that include the Optimus G and recently released Optimus G Pro. To be clear, this doesn’t mean that LG is not willing to work with Google again on another Nexus device, this simply means that they aren’t making this oft-rumored Nexus 5.

Won mentioned in his sitdown that they are not fans of Samsung’s “Nexus experience” edition of the Galaxy S4 that was announced at Google I/O. At this point in time, LG has no plans to release similar “Google Edition” phones, because their skins are what differentiate them from the crowd and this “has no added value for us [LG].”

Last, Won also spoke of a new Android tablet in the works, along with the idea that LG may look to a new smartphone operating system in the future to help sell phones. He isn’t a fan of the “duopoloy” created by Google and Apple in the space, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will develop their own OS. This could simply mean that they will look towards Firefox Mobile OS as another outlet.

So, how disappointed are you that LG more than likely isn’t making the next Nexus?

Last night, LG finally made the white version of the Nexus 4 official. The device, as expected, is the exact same as the black version of the Nexus 4 that has been out for months only it comes in a different color. In fact, the press release states that this is the “Same popular smartphone, different color.” So for the 1,000th time, this does not have 32GB of storage or 4G LTE.

We’re looking at a 4.7″ 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and 2GB of RAM, along with Android 4.2, Google Now, and Photosphere.

The device goes on sale in Hong Kong tomorrow, May 29, and will hit other markets including North America over the next several weeks. No pricing was mentioned, though we’d expect it to arrive on Google Play for the same prices the black one currently sells for – $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB).

There is a ton of good stuff coming out of this year’s Google I/O, so while we take a break from the madness, let’s try to get you caught up on the happenings. Last night, an update was pushed out to Google Play Books, allowing for users to upload their own files such as PDFs and EPUBs. There is also a refreshed design for your library and table of contents pages.

Secondly, and probably much more importantly, the Google TV platform is getting a major bump to Android 4.2.2, Jelly Bean. This will allow Google TV developers to access the most recent APIs and even the newest NDK for development purposes. In the long run, this will make GTV a much smarter and greater platform for the true lovers of entertainment.

Thanks to a new set of photos of the device posted by a Google+ user this weekend, the tech media world now thinks we are guaranteed to see this variant at Google I/O next week…with LTE…and 32GB of storage. While that’s certainly a possibility, the guy that purchased this is not some Google insider nor does he appear to have any knowledge of this device actually having anything to do with I/O. No, he bought it from a local “buy and sell website” while trading in his black Nexus. That’s it. He didn’t sneak one out of a back-alley I/O truck session or have lunch in a dark room with Larry Page. He bought it locally.

But hey, it’s the white Nexus 4 again! Boy, do I wish I had one. Since first popping up back in late January and then re-appearing through a lengthy hands-on session, we have been crossing fingers, hoping for some sort of white N4 announcement from Google. Here we are four months later, and nothing has happened on that front.

We should point out in the past that Google has handed out special edition Nexus devices at Google I/O (like the white Nexus 7), which is happening this week. However, this is not a sign that attendees are getting one. This is just a lucky Android lover who found one at his local tech shop.

Twitter account @evleaks posted another image this afternoon of the mystery LG device that we have been looking at for the past week. As of right now, our money is still on the idea that this is the Optimus G2 and not Google’s next Nexus, although you just can’t rule anything out these days.

As we can see in this image, the device has little to hardly any bezel around the large display. If we take last week’s picture and place them side by side, you can see that it most certainly is the same device. The speaker matches up well and the camera is also in that same spot.

While this is still not much to go on, it’s exciting to see OEMs focusing on displays and bezels this year.

It’s almost Mother’s Day! This means it’s that time of year to thank mom for her hard work in managing the everyday life of a family with a bigger and clearer connection to everything important to her. See where we are going here? If she had a phone like the LG Optimus G Pro with its 5.5″ 1080p display, quad-core processor, multi-tasking capabilities, and brilliant 13MP camera, she could maintain her amazing motherly self in a much more efficient manner. Or she could simply rock out with a sweet new smartphone that’s probably better than yours.

Either way, we have one to giveaway thanks to our friends at AT&T. Think of this as the best Mother’s Day present you could possibly give to mom this weekend, whether she’s in need of a new smartphone or not.

Leak specialist @evleaks posted this photo today of what can only be described as an unannounced, upcoming, high-end LG smartphone. Our first guess is to assume this is the new LG Optimus G2, the follow-up to last year’s Optimus G (our review). Since this is definitely not the Optimus G Pro, what else can it be, right?

You’ll notice that it lacks hardware navigation keys, so there is a chance that LG is buying into Google’s take on Android, which is to go with software keys. The display also seems to carry a similar quality to the original Optimus G, or even Nexus 4, in that it cascades towards the edges. Early reports from benchmarks peg this phone as having a Snapdragon 800 processor and running the latest version of Android. I would also imagine that it’ll come equipped with the new display resolution standard for high-end devices of 1080p.

Speaking of Nexus, is there any chance that this becomes the reference device for the newly-rumored next Nexus phone from LG? The original Optimus G was indeed the reference for the Nexus 4, so should the report out of Korea Times from last week end up being true, you could potentially be looking at the new Nexus phone.

Lots of questions with no answers, as usual.

In one line of a report by the Korea Times, the world is now jumping to the idea that Google has already pegged LG as the creator of the next Nexus phone. Since LG produced the Nexus 4, they could easily create the next Nexus. Hell, even Samsung produced two Nexus phones in a row in the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. The report comes as Larry Page stopped off to meet with LG CEO Koo Bon-joon in Korea to talk business. The report mentions specifically that the two met under low profile circumstances because “LG Group is working with Internet-giant Google to make another Nexus-branded Google Android smartphone.” So are they?

Other than this report, we have no other leads that point towards LG producing the next Nexus, which many have already dubbed “Nexus 5.” One thing you should keep in mind, is the fact that we likely won’t see another phone made by Google until the end of 2013. Google has released Nexus phones during the holiday quarter for three straight years, so by no means do we expect to see a new Nexus phone at Google I/O in two weeks or at another time this summer.

LG certainly makes sense, though. The Nexus 4 has been a success if you consider that Google underestimated demand for it during the first few months of its release, leading to weeks and weeks of delays and limited availability. LG has also set personal records in terms of the amounts of smartphones it has shipped over the last quarter or so, thanks to innovative features and form factors of devices that match up nicely to what Samsung has been pushing. While we have a ways to go before we’ll know for sure if LG is making the next Nexus, they should stick on the short list of potential companies.

The meeting between Koo and Page reportedly also featured conversations about TVs and Google Glass.

Thoughts on LG producing the next Nexus? We know you’d rather have it be made by Motorola, but who would be your second choice?

LG is still hosting an event this evening in NYC to reveal their plans for the Optimus G Pro, but AT&T has gone ahead this morning and ruined some of the surprise. The device is coming to AT&T as an exclusive (yes, another one) on May 10 for $199 on new 2-year contract. You can pre-order the device from May 3 if you’d like. Should you choose to pre-order, you’ll receive a free Quick Cover black folio case.

For those not familiar, the Optimus G Pro is a lot like the Galaxy Note 2 in terms of size, but 1-ups Samsung’s big boy by using a 5.5″ full HD IPS display (1920×1080, 400ppi), 13MP rear camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, and 3140mAh battery. It also has 2.1MP front camera, runs Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), and features a suite of LG-inspired multi-tasking software. There is no S Pen, though.

If you were interested in this device, how are you feeling about this being an AT&T exclusive?

The LG Revolution, one of the first 4G LTE on the planet, is set to receive a new update as build number VS910ZVB. The update itself is nothing to write home about, as it only contains security patches plus the removal of a handful of bloatware apps like Rockband, Bitbop, Verizon Apps, Blockbuster, etc. The list is actually longer than that if you can believe it, so if anything, your device will have freed up space on its internal storage.

So, enjoy the update.

Twitter account @evleaks is at it again this morning, this time leaking a press render for the upcoming LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T. This is the same device that is set to be announced at an LG press event next week on May 1, so this is when things get exciting. We are putting our bets on the device’s specs to not change too much from the Korean version, which is one beast of a device.

The Korean version sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip, a monster 5.5″ 1080p display, 13MP camera, and a large suite of proprietary software much like Samsung does with their Galaxy lineup of devices.

Next week, we will know 100% what to expect for the US.

In a recent call on LG’s financials, the company’s vice president of mobile, Yoon Bu-hyun gave word that we should start to expect something major from LG. According to Yoon, LG is hard at work to create a smartphone with a flexible OLED display, much like we saw as a prototype from Samsung during this year’s CES. They even gave us Q4 as their deadline, so start marking those calendars.

I recall last night on the DL Show that I mentioned we should pay more attention to LG this year and this basically confirms my statement. It’s good to have as many competitors thrown into the mix of top devices as possible, at least from a consumer’s standpoint.

From what we have seen about flexible displays, does this move in the mobile space interest you at all?
