LauncherPro Update Adds Dock Popups for SMS and Missed Calls

What we love about LauncherPro updates, is the fact that they are never just “bug fixers.”  They almost always include some new goodie which makes the app that much better while fixing minor bugs that may have surfaced since the last release.

With this newest release (v0.8.0.0), Plus users are treated to 2 new dock popups, which give you notifications from the dock for missed calls and unread texts.  Another feature I had never even imagined, but seems so obvious and amazingly useful…

New Feature: Dock Popups! A perfect complement for dock notifications and dock swipe actions, the new dock popups give you quick access to information without leaving LauncherPro. In this release I’ve included two popups: Missed Calls, and Unread SMS. More popups will come in future updates.

Here are Fede’s instructions on how to enable them…

To enable them, long-press on the desired dock icon, choose “Swipe gesture action”, then “Show Popup…” and choose the popup. Now when you swipe that icon up, you’ll get a popup showing you the selected information.

Both of these popups mark all items as read/viewed when you open them, so they’ll automatically clear the dock notification bubble. You can click on an item (SMS or call) to open it in their respective apps.

Cheers Mario!

The Tato Series: An Interview With Fede Of LauncherPro

So, anyone who knows me should know two things about me:  I love Sapphire and I love me some good ol’ LauncherPro.  When it comes to launchers though there are lots of choices other than LP like ADW, Stock, Helix, and the list goes on. Well we took a poll a lil’ while ago to show what our readers were using then, (Time for an updated poll? I think so!) but there was one launcher missing from that list that lately has pretty much wiped the floor with the competition. That Launcher, is none other than LauncherPro.

Besides ADW, LauncherPro is the definitive Home replacement application. With a widely growing list of widgets and customizable  features…who could argue? I have been fortunate enough to score some time with the man behind the app, Mr. Federico Carnales. Please enjoy this as much as I did; he was a sincere pleasure to talk to!   (more…)

Congrats final 10!  You should have received an email by now with instructions on how to get your free license.  If not, hit us up via contact form and we’ll see what we can do to straighten it out!  And congrats to everyone else who won a free license.

Please make sure to thank Jon F. Hancock, the developer behind this app.  50 licenses is a lot to give away!  If you didn’t win, you should still consider picking up this app in the market anyway.  It’s definitely a nice accessory to go along with your LauncherPro.  Visit his site here!

LauncherPro Update Includes Friends Widget, Customizable Homescreens

Continuing its reign as one of the top 2 launchers on the planet, LauncherPro has added the “Friends” widget to its lineup plus an option to set the number of rows or columns on your homescreens.  The homescreen customization comes with the free version, but as with any of the widgets, the “Friends” add-on only comes with Plus version.  What does the “Friends” widget do?  It combines your Facebook and Twitter feeds into one spot so you don’t have to mess with 2 separate widgets anymore.  Time to upgrade if you haven’t!

We’re not sure if or when these LauncherPro updates will ever stop, but just know that we’ll never complain when we see one available.

Contest: 50 LauncherPro Icon App Licenses to Give Away!

More LauncherPro talk!  Remember the LauncherPro Icon App that we wrote about a few weeks back?  Well the developer has been gracious enough to let us give away 50 licenses to the paid version of their app!  Yes, 50. For those not familiar, the Icon App was put together to help out anyone looking to customize their icons and dock in LauncherPro without having to dig around the internet.  It’s a one stop shop for full LP customization.

So in  celebration of their new version 3.1.1 which includes sets of colored icons, a bunch of new docks and a newly polished UI, they came to us to spread the word!

Ask Dr. Root: Fully Customizing your Homescreens, and a Goodies File to get you Started

Dr, Root, How do I get all these cool looking home screens I see floating around?

1.  First if you don’t already have it, grab LauncherPro from the market and you’ll need to pony up for the plus version.

(Fede is awesome anyway so please help support him if you can.)

2.  Next grab Desktop Visualizer from the market also.
3.  Download this ZIP FILE that I have provided for you to get you started.

This .zip includes some icons as well as 2 .psd files for the icons in case you wanted to create your own, but there are plenty provided which should give you a good start. If  you choose to create your own, the .psd files work perfectly in Photoshop.  For those of you without Photoshop the following measurements can be used to create the icons with your favorite image editor. For the 3×1 icon use 355×132 and for the 1×2 icon use 115×266.

4.  Now that you have some icons lets start by selecting the 4×1 widget from Desktop Visualizer. You will want to resize this to 3×1 with LauncherPro’s resizing ability. Using the 1×2 widget is straightforward and will require no resizing.   (more…)
