Amazon Announces New Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, a New Flagship Tablet for $379

Along with the new Kindle Fire HD, Amazon also announced the new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 tonight, which is clearly the flagship amongst the group.

As a flagship tablet, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 sports an 8.9-inch (2560×1600, 339ppi) display with “30% more pixels than the iPad Air,” 2.5GHz Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Adreno 420 GPU, 8MP rear camera, HD front camera, Dolby Atmos audio (a first for tablets), 802.11ac MIMO WiFi (4G LTE optional), and runs Amazon’s Fire OS “Sangria,” the newest fork of Android, which has all sorts of new software add-ons. Amazon Announces New Kindle Fire HD 6 and 7, “Most Powerful Tablet Under $100″

Amazon unveiled a whole new suite of Kindle Fire tablets this evening, starting with the all new Kindle Fire HD 6 and 7, which have a starting price of $99. The devices come in a variety of “fun” colors and run Amazons Fire OS 4 “Sangria,” which as you know, is a fork of Android.

The devices sport “powerful” specs for their price, with their numerical names hinting at screen sizes. You are looking at 6-inch (1280×800, 252ppi) and 7-inch (1280×800, 216ppi) tablets with 1.5GHz quad-core processors, front and rear cameras, “pocketable” designs, Gorilla Glass, Dolby surround sound audio, and a whole bunch of custom Amazon software features.  (more…)

Amazon Launches Kindle Fire OS 3.1, Includes Video Fling and Goodreads Integration

Amazon announced a free software update for owners of Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets this morning, full of new features and optimizations. A few changes in OS 3.1 users will experience is a newly baked-in integration with Goodreads, an online book reading/reviewing community where bookworms can share recommendations with each other. Amazon also added a video “Fling” feature that allows users to fling movies and TV shows from their tablets, right to a Samsung Smart TV or PlayStation 3 console.  (more…)

The Kindle Fire HDX, Amazon’s new flagship tablet with high-end specs, ships today at a starting price of $229. Announced back at the end of September, the new HDX tablets from Amazon are about as good as it gets in terms of tablet hardware, you just need to understand that should you buy one, you are giving up access to Google services (Gmail app, Google Play, Hangouts, etc.). Along with tonight’s announcement of the new Kindle Fire HDX tablets by Amazon, we also get a new Kindle Fire HD that has been upgraded in a number of areas yet drops in at a low price of $139. At that insanely low price, you are looking at a 1280×800 HD display (216ppi), 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Dolby Digital Plus audio dual speakers, the same slim design of the HDX series, and the new Fire OS 3.0 fork of Android.

The new Kindle Fire is available for pre-order in both 8GB and 16GB models starting today, and will begin shipping October 2.
