According to HTC’s online communications manager Jeff Gordon, there will be one less face in the U.S. tablet game. The company has decided to pull their tablet lineup from the States and says “it was a great learning experience.” While Gordon didn’t say it specifically, I don’t think it’s a far stretch to interpret that as “we got our butts kicked” by companies like Apple, Amazon, and ASUS. Gordon also stated that they are watching the tablet market very closely and will re-enter if they feel they have a product that can compete.

We can’t say we’re shocked, especially when they only offered tablets like the Jetstream and the Flyer, which might have looked cool on paper, but just never seemed to pile up the sales numbers like offerings from their competitors.

Update: An HTC spokesperson reached out to us to help clarify some of the statements made earlier. They had this to say:

“HTC is pleased with the results of our first foray into tablets—the HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G, and HTC Jetstream—and like any products in the mobile space that were release some time ago, our tablets have run through their planned lifecycles. We’re continuing to watch the tablet market very, very closely for the right opportunity to re-enter in a way in which we’re not just offering a “me too” tablet, but a product that’s compelling, differentiated, and inspiring to our customers.”

Saddened by the news?

So HTC, to date, has struggled mightily in the tablet game. In fact, they basically took the last year or so off to re-think their strategy after producing some of the more disappointing big-screened Android devices ever (Flyer and Jetstream). That time away has apparently given them enough ideas and has led to the device in the 7 pictures that just leaked on Twitter and that we have featured in this post.

It’s a nameless tablet that appears to have a massive screen, giant chin bezel, front and back cameras (fixated on the bottom of the device), is incredibly thin, and runs a version of HTC’s Sense. It also looks like it will have a dock that turns the device into an iMac knock-off.

After cruising over these pictures a number of times, <del>we can’t actually decide what OS this is running. The only OS-type of picture we have is that of an email client, which looks like iOS, not Android. We all know that it can’t be running iOS, so that either leaves Windows or Android, however, we’d be jumping ahead of ourselves if we claimed it to be either one definitively. Then again, Microsoft apparently denied HTC the chance to produce a Windows 8 tablet, so maybe it is Android after all</del>?

Update: Tablet UI picture has been added, it’s definitely running Android.

What do you guys think? Cool, odd, or don’t care?

You knew it would come eventually, right? HTC wasn’t just going to stop with smartphones that were equipped with Beats by Dre technology, they had to bring it to tablets too.

In an interview with the press yesterday to discuss their new line of headphones, Beats gurus Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre spoke on the importance of pairing their products with tablets. The weird thing here was listening to Jimmy talk about “the heads of the company that makes that thing” when referring to, what we are assuming is HTC and their tablets. He would not for whatever reason, mention them by name. Sounds like he’s really invested in this partnership, eh?

During the video we have attached below though, you will see a ton of shots of the HTC Flyer with a massive beats logo on it as well as it paired with some of their new wireless headphones. When you purchase the soon-to-be-announced HTC devices that come Beats-equipped, these are the headphones you will likely see. During years of testing, they finally found a way to make sound over Bluetooth live up to their standards.

Click here to view the embedded video.

We know that many of you are not the hugest fans of Beats headphones, but as long as prices of devices aren’t skyrocketing with a pair included, I would hope that you would all welcome them over those stock garbage ear buds that we have seen in the past.

Cheers Jason!
