Much like Apple’s 3D Touch, which allows users to long press on items and peek into them, when you are on a profile page or the search menu of the updated Instagram app, you can now long press on thumbnails of photos and videos, peaking into what they have to offer. This morning, we showed you the new Instagram multiple accounts feature that is slowly rolling out on Android, but wanted to follow that up with a deeper look on video to give you a better idea as to how it works. An update to Instagram is rolling out on Android as v7.12.0 that brings a significant new feature – multiple account support! For those of us who operate a business and a personal Instagram account, we can now control both without having to log in and out each time! I can’t even begin to describe how big of a deal this is for all sorts of industries (and the DL IG account).
When you update, in order to add a secondary account, you’ll need to go to your profile page, hit the menu button in the top left, and then scroll all the way down until you find the “Add Account” option. Tap that and sign in. (more…)
I went on a hike this morning and took some photos to post to Instagram. As I loaded up the app (v7.3.0), I noticed a new screen that seemed a bit different after choosing/taking a photo. Big news for Instagram fans this morning, as a spokesman for the company confirmed plans to roll out support for the uploading of 1080px photos to the service. As most users on Android are likely aware, Instagram resizes your photos to just 640×640, but with our smartphones featuring more powerful image sensors than they did a few years ago, the uploaded photos never quite match the original photos in terms of quality. Instagram is pushing a major update to version 7.0 today that introduces an all-new Explore page, along with search functionality that is actually useful.
In the new Explore page, users will find “trends as they emerge in real-time,” trending tags and places, and new curated collections of things like extreme athletes or musicians, “glimmering islands,” architecture, etc. Instagram wants you to not only find the hot happenings near you, but also those around the globe as they are happening.
