IKEA’s new TRÅDFRI smart lighting system was announced back in March as a potentially affordable and more accessible alternative to the expensive Philips Hue products of the world. Unfortunately, at launch, the system didn’t play well with the other smart systems in your home and was controlled only by an app that IKEA released. In the coming months (“summer and early autumn”), IKEA plans to fix that by allowing you to control TRÅDFRI products through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa (Siri too). (more…)
If you have yet to jump into the world of smart lights, I certainly can understand. After all, these things (Philips products in particular) are pretty damn expensive. But what if IKEA offered up a solution that wasn’t cheap, but also wasn’t ridiculously expensive? Hopefully, that sounds appealing, because their new TRÅDFRI smart lighting system is on the way! Just before Google I/O, we told you that IKEA had begun selling their series of wireless charging pads, lamps, and other accessories in the US. We also told you that we may or may not have a few to giveaway, which as you can tell from this post, is about to happen.
After a quick trip out to the Portland IKEA, we came back with three extra single-spot charging plates (Nordmarke), along with a bigger three-spot charging plate. Ever since IKEA and Samsung announced that they were teaming up to introduce a line of furniture with embedded wireless charging, we have been dying to get a look at the options, prices, and opportunities to buy them. With the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, along with a handful of other devices showing love to wireless charging these days, the thought of having furniture in our lives with built-in wireless charging sounds pretty incredible. It may not be fast charging, but it’s certainly quite convenient, especially if the technology can live seamlessly in our day-to-day lives.
This morning, IKEA finally announced pricing and availability of the new line for the US, with the first pieces of furniture becoming available in “late Spring.” (more…)

With this partnership, IKEA will focus on creating furniture that incorporates wireless charging built-in, allowing owners to simply toss their phone down and charge it. (more…)
