The announcement during yesterday’s I/O keynote that showed off the “Nexus Edition” Samsung Galaxy S4 surprised a lot of people. It was as if Google listened to what we have been saying forever – we want great hardware with stock Android and we want it now! Of course, minds started spinning over the possibilities, but HTC quickly put on the brakes by saying they have no plans for a Nexus Edition One.

In a statement to TechnoBuffalo, HTC said they are, “not currently planning a ‘Nexus Edition’ of the HTC One.” It is unfortunate, but makes sense considering that they already have a developer edition of the device that comes with an unlocked bootloader. That makes it fairly easy for you to throw on stock Android, but a Nexus Edition would have been exciting to see.

Love it or hate it, HTC is fully behind their Android skin, Sense. With each upgrade it is promised to be slimmer and easier to use, but still people complain about it getting in the way of their phone. Sense 5 debuted with their newest flagship the HTC One this year, but according to an HTC ROM developer, Sense 5 is upcoming for last year’s device, the One X.

If this is true, HTC also plans to bring two of the highest profile features from this year’s device back to the One X as well. The curated social news-stream BlinkFeed and the awesome camera feature Zoes are planned to be included in this update as well. With an update of this size however, it could be a while before we see it on the international version of the One X and even longer before any US versions of the device see it. If we hear anything, we will be sure to keep you posted.

If you were quick on the news when the HTC One was first announced, you might have caught a glimpse of a red variant of the phone on their launch website. It was quickly taken down, but rumors of the mysterious device have not quieted. Word from HTC as of now is that Silver and Black will be the only two hues, but a UK retailer has posted this image to give us all hope.

This is far from any kind of official announcement from HTC, but it is curious to see the image resurface again. It is currently “out of stock” so you can’t snatch one up even if you wanted to. Even though it seems less and less likely that Verizon will be getting a One of their own, we can hope can’t we?

This week the wave of Galaxy S4 reviews hit the Internet, with most sites praising Samsung’s newest phone for being a decent upgrade to the Galaxy line. However, most reviews, like our own, mentioned the clear difference in build quality when compared with the HTC One. HTC is openly proud of this fact and is loving the press for their new flagship device.

The president of HTC in America, Mike Woodward was quoted on the subject this week and is positive about their sales. While not going too far and announcing any sales numbers, Woodward said it’s been a “great week” and that sales are going well so far. He said in most Galaxy S4 reviews, the design of the One stands out, “the design seems to be attracting the most attention and we’re really proud of that.”

If HTC could get their supply chain fixed, the battle between the One and the Galaxy S4 might start heating up here pretty soon.

As if the HTC One hasn’t seen enough setbacks already before its launch, a new court ruling against HTC in the Netherlands looks to make it even worse. Nokia has been awarded a preliminary injunction against the HTC One centering around high-amplitude microphones that are found in the phone. The microphones found inside the One are the exact same as the mics found in the Lumia 720, and that is no good for HTC.

The same company makes the microphones for HTC and Nokia, but Nokia says that the components of these mics in particular were made specifically for Nokia. While this could be a mistake on HTC’s part, it could have been the fault of the microphone manufacturer in this case. In the meantime the One is facing more setbacks.

HTC says they are “disappointed” in the decision from the court and that they will “explore alternate solutions immediately.”

While in a store, a customer snapped a picture of some One signage, showing off its killer features like HTC Zoe, BoomSound and BlinkFeed.

More importantly, it looks as if once the One finally does go on sale, RadioShack will offer a $50 Google Play gift card if you purchase the device on a new two year agreement. Plus, you will get a $10 coupon off of the $199 contract price. Not bad at all.

While HTC might see record pre-order numbers for this device, it is going to be an uphill battle against the Galaxy S4 in retailers.
