Android 7.0 “Nougat” arrived back in late August. I point that out because we have seen numerous devices over the past week receive an update to it. I also point that out because you should be shaking your head at these companies for finally getting around to giving your high-end phone a taste of a version of Android that isn’t even close to being the most current. To end 2016, Verizon is sending out a wave of security patches to most of its flagship phones. The batch of updates are available this week for the HTC 10, Moto Z family, Galaxy Note 4, Note 5, Note Edge, Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+.
Again, we aren’t seeing anything new for any of these phones outside of the security business, so if you see an update this week, you should now know exactly what it is. (more…)
Before we tell you what our pick for Android phone of the year (POTY) is, we want to hear from you first.
In 2016, we saw a ton of great devices released from a large assortment of makers, making this quite a unique list. To give you an example of that, the ZTE-made Axon 7 will be found, the first time a ZTE phone has even be a contender in the POTY category.
Naturally, all the big names are here, too, including the latest from Moto, Samsung, HTC, and LG. However, you will see that the Galaxy Note 7 is not listed, you know, because of the recall. And if you think we totally botched this and are missing the best option, feel free to vote “Other” and let us know int he comments.
Details shared via HTC’s Twitter account this morning states that the company expects to provide a Nougat update for the HTC 10 during Q4 of this year. More specifically, HTC hopes to update the unlocked HTC 10, followed by updates for the unlocked One M9 and unlocked One A9 to Android 7.0. Then, if all goes well, we can expect to see updates for carrier models, but no timeframe was provided. (more…)
To take a bit of excitement away from Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy Note 7 this morning, HTC is offering the HTC 10 in two new colors – Camilla Red and Topaz Gold. Both colors are exclusive to HTC’s online store and are available for pre-order right now.
HTC’s $100 off on the HTC 10 is still valid, pricing the phone at $599 down from $699. Alternatively, folks can also opt for the free set of JBL Type-C earbuds, which carry a value of $199. (more…)
