Well, now I can see myself paying $1500 for the developer version of Google Glass. Following the announcement of a Twitter application, Facebook has arrived! Announced today, Facebook can now be found for Google Glass users, allowing them to post photos directly to their timelines. In addition, you can simply speak the photo’s description to have it added to the post.

Facebook says this is only “step one” for their development process for Glass. Hmm, I wonder what else we can expect to see from Zuckerburg’s crew.

You are now completely sold on Glass, right?

Given the fact that it is against the law to have computers or devices capable of recording video out on a casino floor, it comes as no shock that Caesars Palace has banned Google Glass from appearing on their casino floors. In fact, if one gets caught trying to gamble while wearing the tech, it could land you in jail, so it’s best to just leave them up in your room for the night.

Before it undoubtedly gets announced sometime in the future, let’s start using our brains and begin listing out places that should automatically ban Google Glass due to privacy and law breaking. I will start – casinos, movie theaters, possibly some banks, and strip clubs. I got you started, so now it’s your turn. Go!

I actually can’t believe we haven’t asked this yet, but I feel as if it’s time. Google Glass has been everywhere as of late, now that it is in the hands of developers (and random media outlets who probably have no business with them). We’re seeing personal video clips of hockey games, trips to the park, go-kart races, and more, all through Glass recordings. There are venture capitalists (with agendas) running around telling people that this is the future of tech, while others are quick to refer to it as the next Segway.

But does anyone really care at this point? Like, if you are an average consumer or even semi-addicted tech enthusiast – and aren’t a developer or someone who was foolish enough to drop $1500 on Glass to be an “early” adopter – has any of what you’ve seen turned you into an interested party? Or are you bored to death by it? Can you not wait to get your hands on a retail unit, whenever they drop? Or will you never be caught dead wearing the Segway-for-your-head?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

This morning, we shared a couple of videos from a participant in the Google Glass Explorer program who screencasted Glass to give us a unique view of the UI and functionality of the wearable tech. While those videos were impressive, they couldn’t quite provide the full user experience. So if those videos didn’t quite help win you over or provide the clearest representation of how you envisioned Glass working, maybe this official video from Google will help.

In this “How to” clip on getting started with Glass, Google shows you how to navigate the UI with the side touchpad, adjust the display for optimal viewing, and put the device to sleep to help conserve battery.

Tell us, the more you see of Glass, are you getting excited or less interested?

Ready to start tweeting from Google Glass? Yesterday, a tweet was spotted that has since been deleted, coupled with the label “Twitter for Glass.” Once news got out, the account was deleted, making it quite possible that no one was supposed to see it.

Adding to the fun, the Twitter account @Mogrooth (minus the Muddler), belongs to a mobile engineering manager at Twitter, Shiv Ramamurthi. Additionally, 3rd party app developers cannot use the word Twitter in the labels, so the fact that “Twitter” is used in Twitter for Glass lends more credibility to the story.

Dan McLaughlin, an early Google Glass adopter who is part of the Explorer program, has been documenting his entire life with Glass over the last couple of weeks. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Dan was the first to unbox his Glass in that incredibly choppy video when the Explorer editions of Glass first became available. In these two clips we have attached, he takes you on a tour of the UI as he interacts with it, thanks to a screencasting application.

You’ll see how good the voice recognition is, how Dan interacts with menus by both touching the side of the device and nodding his head back and forth, and how the UI looks in general when returning things like Google Search results. In the second video, you’ll really see how accurate and sensitive the voice recognition is.

Google Glass may look silly as hell on your head, but this type of no-hands interactivity is pretty damn cool. Google I/O, you better have Glass in some form for us to get our hands on, even if it’s for a brief moment.

After word got out late last week that Google Glass was “unlocked” and “rooted,” a Googler took to his Google+ page to shed some light on the subject. As he points out, the folks that have Google Glass in their possession right now paid a very hefty price to be so fortunate. Each unit cost $1500, so in Google’s eyes, the device should be easily unlocked and hackable.

Stephen Lau, a Glass team member, put it rather bluntly in saying, “we intentionally left the device unlocked so you guys could hack it and do crazy fun shit with it.” Here is the full message he posted on Friday.

Not to bring anybody down… but seriously… we intentionally left the device unlocked so you guys could hack it and do crazy fun shit with it. I mean, FFS, you paid $1500 for it… go to town on it. Show me something cool.

Gotta love those Googlers.

The Explorer Editions of Google Glass are slowly shipping to early adopters as you read this, but since the $1,500 price tag attached to them was more than likely out of the range of most, you can imagine that the official retail launch is what’s on radars. We had originally heard that Glass in its retail form would arrive this year with a price below the $1,500 Explorer Edition, however, Eric Schmidt made comments this weekend in an interview with BBC radio that suggested otherwise.

When asked how soon it is likely to come to the market, Schmidt responded with, “Well, the developers are beginning now. It would be fair to say that there will be thousands of these in use by developers over the next months. And then based on their feedback, we’ll make some product changes – and it’s probably a year-ish away.”

That’s a bit disappointing, but Glass in its current state probably needs a ton of work. Early reports from developers are just now coming in, so we don’t necessarily have any official reviews to go by. With that said, anything Google can do to fine tune the hardware, polish the software, and add in new features is going to help with adoption. Google I/O should be filled with Glass topics and announcements – hopefully they include more definitive news on a retail release.

You can hear Schmidt’s comments on Glass at the audio link below, starting with the 4:28 mark.

Do you happen to be a member of the walking dead populace that inhabits this world, hoping to get your nasty blood-covered hands on Google Glass? Unfortunately for you and your friends, Google set the record straight last Friday, claiming Glass “isn’t quite ready for zombies yet.”

A zombie was on Google+ and decided to reach out to Google in an attempt to score a pair of fancy eye wear, claiming that there must be a huge market for the zombie population. In addition, he could then give Google a zombie’s perspective on Glass and everyone would be a winner. As it turns out, whoever runs the Glass G+ page is a good sport and played along nicely with the request.

With Google Glass “Explorer Editions” becoming available for early adopters as early as this week, it only makes sense that someone would unbox theirs. It didn’t take long, but sure enough, the first ever Google Glass unboxing is now available. It’s shot with what appears to be a 4fps webcam, so prepare yourselves for a screaming headache once the clip has completed. But you will get to see the clever packaging, tour of the device, and accessories included.

Also, if you pop around Google+ and search for “Google Glass,” you are bound to find all sorts of clips and photos of these new Explorer Editions. Prepare to be overwhelmed by people with robotic accessories attached to their heads.

Even I have to admit that I’m more interested in Glass now than I have ever been. Maybe it’s jealousy because it’s in the hands of actual humans, I don’t know. What I do know is that I cannot wait for Google I/O to arrive.

Google Glass is here, folks, whether the world is ready for it or not. After sending out notifications to participants of the Glass Explorer program and then releasing a developer API, Google also pushed out a support page for Glass which included FAQ and official tech specs. From the beginning, we were curious as to what was packed inside this new wearable tech. The mystery is finally over with.

The device itself has a “durable frame” that “fits any face” and includes adjustable nosepads. The display is considered “high resolution” that is the equivalent to a 25″ HD TV being viewed at eight feet away. The camera features a 5MP sensor that can record 720p video. Audio is taken care of by a Bone Conduction Transducer. There is 16GB of internal storage, though only about 12GB is usable.

The first batches of Google Glass hardware are rolling “off the production line now,” according to emails sent out to Glass Explorers, the group of Google I/O 2012 attendees who signed up to be the first on the planet to get their hands on Google’s new wearable tech. With early production underway, devices should start shipping at any moment. In the email, Google says that they will not wait until all units are produced before shipping, so they will instead ship in batches as they are produced.

If you signed up as an Explorer, you’ll receive a second email when yours is ready, so that you can fork out the $1,500 asking price and give Google the thumbs-up to ship.

In related news, Google also released a developer portal and API this evening, so that Explorers can start preparing work immediately. The API is called Google Mirror and apps will apparently be called Glassware – cute, right?

After cruising through the dev portal for a few minutes, I went a head and pulled out the five new videos which describe everything from sharing contacts to managing timeline cards to notifications, and included them below. I even found multiple screenshots of the UI itself.

The policies and terms of service introduced with Glass are also worth noting. For example, developers are not allowed to show ads in API clients or charge for them, whatsoever. Google also appears to be checking apps much more thoroughly in Glass, which we would assume is for security reasons.

If Google Glass is going to be a part of your future, I suggest you take a look at the links below. This is the most detail anyone has seen with regard to Google Glass.

Ever get tired of seeing advertisements in real life? AdBlock has partnered with Google Glass to give you the same ability that they offer on the web in your everyday life. To show how their new technology works they tweeted the above picture of Times Square after the ads have been blocked.

Unfortunately, seeing as how Google removed AdBlock from the Play Store this kind of partnership doesn’t seem very likely, but we can hope right? It doesn’t seem likely this would ever make it to Glass even if it were possible, but it might make Glass worth getting for some people.

Silly.
