Say what you want about Google+, but the Hangouts might be the biggest plus (pun fully intended) to Google’s attempt at social networking. In the beginning it was just for video chatting with a few of your friends, but then you could watch Youtube videos for some added fun. Now Google decided you and your friends should get to work and added in Google Docs support. While video chatting with your co-workers or buddies you can all work on a document at the same time. Google says you can do trip planning or lecture notes, but we all know there will be lots of doodling and other fun things that will come from this.

In the latest Google Docs update for Android, you and your crew can edit documents from anywhere with a tablet, phone, or computer and see it all happen in real-time. While editing with multiple users, you can see exactly who is in the document and what and where they are typing. It works seamlessly too.

Google apparently read our piece on there needing to be better Android tablet apps, including one of their own, Google Docs. Today, if you jump into the market and check for updates, you should find one for one of the most popular cloud-based document services in all the land. And if you have a tablet, your experience will be much more “high-res” and not stretched, to put it nicely. For all devices though, you will enjoy the ability to access files while offline. If you happen to edit those offline files, they will be automatically updated once you connect to WiFi. Thanks, Google.

Both Google Reader and Google Docs have updates available in the market as of the last hour. Each received an Ice Cream Sandwich makeover of sorts that includes swiping between stories or document categories, the same sharing options as you will see on new web versions, and prettier widgets. To be honest, the Reader update doesn’t look all that different, but the new Docs version most definitely resembles the look of G+ which was also recently updated.

Your favorite cloud-based document suite Android app received a shiny little update today that makes uploading pics from your phone to the Google Docs web clipboard much easier.  You can’t access those photos from the app itself, but you can load up a document through a browser and attach much easier (see photo below).  And then the Google team also added support for 46 new languages.

Yes!  Google Docs for Android has finally arrived and it’s looking feature packed.  You can now access your G-Docs from anywhere and from any account, share items with contacts, upload docs from phone, open through Gmail, and even perform a variety of functions through a new widget.

The coolest feature though, is clearly Google Docs’ ability to take a photo of an image with text and turn it into an editable document.  You can also turn photos with text that are already on your phone into editable documents that will appear in your list of files almost immediately.

Works on all Android 2.1+ phones.  And yeah, it’s free.
