A new update is headed to owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 on Verizon. It’s incredibly minor in size and also in features. In fact, the only thing it brings is an enhancement to reduce the electrical consumption during power off charging.

When these support docs go live, we typically see the update arrive within a week or so.

Samsung and Verizon can check the Galaxy Tab 7.7 off of their Ice Cream Sandwich update list, as the build of LP10 was approved this morning with changelogs posted. The update brings the tablet up to Android 4.0.4, still includes Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, a data usage meter, new calculator, new homescreen layout, more organized settings, a redesigned gallery app with photo editor, Face Unlock, new music app, desktop view in browser, and more.

The jump from Honeycomb to Ice Cream Sandwich is substantial, so be sure to update to this as it becomes available. Usually when these support documents go live, the update rolls out to users within a week. Let us know if you see it!

Verizon Approves Ice Cream Sandwich Update for Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a post from: Droid Life

Verizon announced this morning that they will begin to carry a 4G LTE powered Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) as of this Friday, August 17. For $349, you can add this to your ongoing tablet collection and attach it to your Share Everything plan for just $10 extra per month. The price is an off-contract price, as Verizon killed off subsidized tablet pricing once their shared data plans went live back in early July.

This tablet is not necessarily new and has been available as a WiFi-only model for months, but we know that there are users out there who can’t live without 4G LTE at all times. The device rocks a 7″ screen, runs Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz, has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 3.2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, and 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB through an SD card slot.

This is by all means, a mid to low-range tablet, hence the $349 price tag. Unfortunately for Samsung and Verizon, this tablet can’t match up to the Nexus 7, so unless 4G LTE is a must for you in a big slate, it’s going to be tough for us to recommend you run out this Friday and pick one up.

Verizon Adds Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to Tablet Lineup, Available August 17 for $349 is a post from: Droid Life

The second version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 may have launched with Ice Cream Sandwich, but many owners of the original are still wondering where their update is. If the rumors are right, Samsung will be sending out updates to most of their old line of tablets starting next month. That includes the:

• Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI/ 3G
• Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI/ 3G
• Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI/ 3G
• Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI/ 3G

The original Samsung Galaxy Tab seems to be a bit too aged to get the bump to ICS, but it’s good to see that Samsung is committed to all these other devices. Other than all the upgrades the ICS brings, the update is said to improve battery life and overall speed of the tablet. There are no dates set in stone yet, but it sounds like it will be sooner rather than later.

Verizon has been silent for the most part when it comes to Ice Cream Sandwich updates for their lineup of Android devices. Many of the OEMs that they deal with have informed us in one way or another, but we were waiting for Big Red to make some things official since they sign off on final software. Their list is now public and is as follows.

For HTC devices, we will see Android 4.0 on the Thunderbolt, Incredible 2, Rhyme and Rezound. Sorry original Incredible owners. For Motorola devices we will see it on the XOOM, Bionic, RAZR, RAZR MAXX, DROID 4 and XYBOARD tablets. Sorry DROID X, DROID X2, and DROID 3 owners. For Samsung devices it looks like only the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 7.7 will see it. No DROID Charge. From LG, only the Spectrum will receive ICS.

Sooo, quite a few devices missing including a couple that should have more than enough power under the hood to run Android 4.0.

Update:  Yes, I see that it says “4G LTE devices currently scheduled” in the press release which has led many to believe that this is simply a 4G LTE only list and that some 3G devices were specifically left out. I’m having a hard time following that logic since the Incredible 2 and Rhyme were also listed and are 3G-only phones. Also, the DROID Charge which is 4G LTE, is left off. This is an assumption of course, but I would tend to lean towards this list being pretty complete.

Verizon Releases List of Phones to Get Ice Cream Sandwich Updates is a post from: Droid Life

Verizon confirmed our report from yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE would be arriving officially on March 1 (this Thursday). If interested, you can pick one up for $499 on a new 2-year contract or buy it outright at $699. I don’t think I need to mention how out of their minds they are for overpricing yet another LTE tablet, so I’ll instead focus on the positives. This tablet is ultra-thin (thinnest in the world for LTE tabs), has a Super AMOLED Plus display, dual cameras, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, and may just be the perfect size at 7.7 inches. It will run Honeycomb (Android 3.2) out of the box and there is no mention yet as to Verizon or Samsung’s plans to update it to Ice Cream Sandwich. We would hope that it is in the plans though.

Verizon Confirms March 1 for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE, Also the $499 2-Year Contract Price is a post from: Droid Life

Verizon and Samsung announced their newest 4G LTE tablet dubbed the Galaxy Tab 7.7 at CES back in January. A release date did not accompany that announcement, but we have it for you today. March 1 is their target – that would be this Thursday – with a price of $499 on contract or $699 off. While that price will likely turn everyone off, we were impressed by the device itself when we fondled it for a couple of minutes at the beginning of the year. It’s powerful, ultra slim, has a beautiful screen, and will power through any task you throw at it while remaining portable. You can check out that video after the break.

The news application that has been quite the hit on the iPad has now been announced as coming to the Android world thanks to Verizon today. The two companies have signed up to bring the subscription based application to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 first. The Verizon version of the tablet will have it pre-loaded and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 that was announced yesterday will get the application at a later date, no word on any other devices.

You get a week of the Daily free on Verizon and after that you can sign up for a monthly or yearly subscription, which will cost you $3.99 and $39.99 respectively. This is a great option for any newshead out there, the Daily is a great outlet. Will anyone take advantage of this if it comes to other devices like the XOOM or WiFi Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Rounding out our time at PepCom’s Digital Experience from last night, we have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 with LTE that is headed to Verizon. With its beautiful Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.4GHz dual-core processor, ultra thin body, and perfect one-handed size (for some), this might be Big Red’s best tablet. We would have liked to see a beefier camera in the back (only 3MP), but that’s really our only complaint. Well, that and the fact that it is still running Honeycomb.

No exact release date has been given. We will see what else we can find out when we get more time with the device this afternoon at VZW’s booth. And here’s to hoping we don’t see it for $499 on-contract, especially with Asus and NVIDIA getting ready to drop a Tegra 3 device of similar size for $249.

Verizon and Samsung today announced another device that we first reported on a few weeks back, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with 4G LTE. It rocks a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 7.7″ Super AMOLED Plus display, is extremely thin (thinnest LTE tablet), has a 3MP rear camera, 2MP in the front, 16GB of on-board storage, an SD card slot for extra storage, and weighs roughly 340 grams. The 7.7 is running Android 3.2 with TouchWiz – no word was given on an Ice Cream Sandwich update, but we will assume that it will eventually get it.

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be available in the coming weeks. Both Verizon and Samsung will have it on display in their booths, so you can bet that we will get some hands on time with it.

Samsung and Verizon Introduce the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with 4G LTE is a post from: Droid Life

Just in case the Galaxy Tab 10.1″ with LTE, both XYBOARDs at 10.1″ and 8.2″, the XOOM, or the iPad weren’t enough tablet options, you may be adding Galaxy Tab 7.7 with LTE to the list. This device was originally announced back in September for Europe, but rumors of it finding a spot in the states soon emerged. Since Verizon is the biggest LTE carrier here, it only makes sense that they would carry it.

Some think that 10.1″ tablets are too big, so this may be the sweet spot that those folks are looking for. The original Galaxy Tab 7 never really stood a chance thanks to it lacking Honeycomb – can this one succeed? Not many carrier-branded Android tablets have to this point. We’ll see if this will be the first.

Oh, and 12/7 is not a release date. That’s when the device made its way into VZW systems.
