Samsung’s poorly reviewed smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, became slightly more appealing this morning with an announcement that it would soon be compatible with 8 new devices. As you may be aware, the Galaxy Gear currently only works with the Galaxy Note 3, something we knocked it for in our review. How good is a smartwatch if it only works with a single smartphone? Up until June 30, AT&T is willing to slash half the price off of a new phone should you be interested in signing a new contract with the wireless carrier. In a new promo that went live this past weekend, AT&T is offering up 50% discounts to any phone available in their online shop , including the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One (iPhone 5 too if you care). All you have to do is shop from their site, add the device to your cart, and then proceed to checkout where you will see the discount being applied. As you can tell from the image above, this even worked on the brand new Galaxy S4 Active. (more…)
As expected after seeing the phone in a teaser yesterday, AT&T will “exclusively” add the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active to its growing line of smartphones. The phone will arrive on June 21 for $199 with new 2-year contract and in two colors, Urban Gray and Dive Blue (no orange!).
The Galaxy S4 Active brings together high-performance and “real-life,” according to Samsung and AT&T. What they mean is that the phone can withstand the elements, yet is just as powerful as the regular Galaxy S4. But you already know that, since we’ve written about this phone a dozen times now without having ever touched it.
The Galaxy S4 Active will be on display at Samsung’s June 20 Premiere event in London. We’ll have coverage of the device for you around that time.
Interested? Frustrated at the “exclusive” AT&T grab? (more…)
Moments ago, AT&T posted up a teaser video for a device to be unveiled tomorrow, June 13. We’ve included the video below, which within the first 10 seconds appears to show off the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. As the video continues to play, you can see the obvious physical home buttons, the squared off back camera lens, and Samsung’s TouchWiz. If those clues weren’t enough, the fact that the phone is dropped into a bucket of water and still takes calls is the supreme giveaway. (more…)
Samsung made the Galaxy S4 Active official this morning as their take on a rugged device built specifically for handling tough conditions and for those with active lifestyles. Unlike the Galaxy S4 Mini, this phone actually lives up to its flagship name with specs that are almost identical. Available this summer in the U.S. and Sweden at launch, you’ll have three colors to choose from: Urban Grey, Dive Blue, and Orange Flare (pictured below). (more…)
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S4 Active that should be revealed at their London event on June 20, is now confirmed for AT&T thanks to a leaked press render. This variant of the GS4 Active looks incredibly different from past looks we have seen of the device, as this one sports a mono grey tone around the entirety of its body, with no other color accents except for a darker shade of matte grey along the bottom and top. The Active we have seen in photos and video was red and black with a more glossy tone. (more…)
Samsung is apparently going balls to the wall with different variants of their latest flagship device, the Galaxy S4. We have known for about a month that we would be seeing a Galaxy S4 Mini, as well as a Galaxy S4 Active, a dust and water-resistant version of the regular Galaxy S4. One variant that we have not yet covered is the Galaxy S4 Zoom, a device that is said to look like a Galaxy S4 Mini, but comes packed with a massive 16MP camera sensor, capable of a 10x optical zoom. Basically, it’s a Galaxy Camera in the shape of a cellphone. (more…)
Yesterday, the first real photos of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active presented themselves on the web, thanks to what appeared to be a display model at a trade show. Today, we’re getting a second look at the device – likely from the same location – on video. The source of this info claims that this is the GT-I9505 (retail international GS4 is GT-I9500) and that it only sports a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor and an 8MP camera, however the video shows it as the GT-I9295 which doesn’t necessarily seem like a GS4 variant. Plus with those specs, you’d be doing a disservice to the Galaxy S4 by slapping it’s name on there.
So while this phone is said to be a rugged, waterproof alternative to the Galaxy S4, it seems lacking in comparison. The retail Galaxy S4 runs on either a quad-core or octa-core processor, contains a 13MP sensor, and is a beast in terms of smartphone prowess.
