AT&T continued its rollout of Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) updates to its line of Samsung Galaxy devices this morning, adding the Galaxy S4 Active to the list, while Verizon can’t seem to update any of its. AT&T has already updated the Note 3 and Galaxy S4, but had yet to show love to its Active variant until now. Well, their support pages show that it may have received it back in May, though today is apparently the start of the mass rollout.
As far as the update goes, we’re looking at a bump up to Android 4.4.2, with better lock screen controls, better handling of SMS, a restyled notification bar, new location controls, and more. (more…)
Been waiting impatiently for a list of Samsung devices that are guaranteed to see the update to Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat“? We now have one, thanks to Samsung. The list features devices you would expect like the Galaxy S4 and S3, Galaxy Note 3 and 2, and Galaxy Note tablets. According to the Android behemoth, updates should begin as early as today, though “availability varis by carrier and product.”
Since we already saw Kit Kat show up for the Sprint Galaxy S4 last week, there could be more at any time. As soon as we learn of specific carrier models receiving updates, we’ll be sure to pass that info along. (more…)
Galaxy S4 Active owners can now celebrate, as their devices have received the head nod from AT&T to begin updating to Android 4.3. It’s taken a while, but updates are always better late than never. Am I right, HTC One X and One X+ owners? Then again, don’t feel too bad, since the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 are still waiting to hear about Android 4.4. Ah, fragmentation, it’s a beautiful thing. Anyways, back to the topic at hand. (more…)
Once decidedly niche, “rugged” smartphones – those built to be punished by the severest elements of nature – have become mainstream. We’ve come a long way from the Casio G’Zone; Sony offers the Xperia Go, Kyocera offers the Torque, and Samsung offers the Galaxy S4 Active. That last one – the Active – may be of particular interest to AT&T customers, because eBay’s offering the handset unlocked and refurbished for a steal. (more…)
Owners of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and the Galaxy S4 Active have been waiting patiently to hear about when these Samsung devices would receive an update to Android 4.3. According to a leaked internal document we scored this morning, we finally have some dates to mark on our calendars. (more…)
Samsung’s poorly reviewed smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, became slightly more appealing this morning with an announcement that it would soon be compatible with 8 new devices. As you may be aware, the Galaxy Gear currently only works with the Galaxy Note 3, something we knocked it for in our review. How good is a smartwatch if it only works with a single smartphone? (more…)
Up until June 30, AT&T is willing to slash half the price off of a new phone should you be interested in signing a new contract with the wireless carrier. In a new promo that went live this past weekend, AT&T is offering up 50% discounts to any phone available in their online shop , including the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One (iPhone 5 too if you care). All you have to do is shop from their site, add the device to your cart, and then proceed to checkout where you will see the discount being applied. As you can tell from the image above, this even worked on the brand new Galaxy S4 Active. (more…)
As expected after seeing the phone in a teaser yesterday, AT&T will “exclusively” add the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active to its growing line of smartphones. The phone will arrive on June 21 for $199 with new 2-year contract and in two colors, Urban Gray and Dive Blue (no orange!).
The Galaxy S4 Active brings together high-performance and “real-life,” according to Samsung and AT&T. What they mean is that the phone can withstand the elements, yet is just as powerful as the regular Galaxy S4. But you already know that, since we’ve written about this phone a dozen times now without having ever touched it.
The Galaxy S4 Active will be on display at Samsung’s June 20 Premiere event in London. We’ll have coverage of the device for you around that time.
Interested? Frustrated at the “exclusive” AT&T grab? (more…)
