Not only does it upgrade your device to the latest version of Android, but many of the new features from the S4 will be included as well.

The list of features that come from the new version of Android and the new TouchWiz is pretty long, but the big features include the new S4 lockscreen, which includes multiple widgets, clock resizing and other nifty features. New S-Voice, settings menu and smart switch widgets have all been added as well.
Included in our Samsung Galaxy S4 review, we took a pretty deep video look at how this new flagship compares to Samsung’s flagship from last year, the Galaxy S3. But since it was buried towards the bottom of that exhaustive review, we wanted to pull the video out on its own to make sure you all saw it, especially those of you considering a jump from the Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy S4.

In this 9-minute clip, we take a tour of each device, talk specs, show the subtle differences here and there, and discuss our general feelings towards this new member of the Galaxy family.

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 arriving towards the end of the month, Verizon has gone ahead and slashed the price of the Galaxy S3 to $99 on contract, likely in an attempt to move left-over stock. While Big Red has yet to even acknowledge the fact that the Galaxy S4 exists or that they will carry it, price cuts on previous year models are almost always a good sign.

Also, keep in mind that we have seen their variant cruise through the FCC already, sporting all of the LTE and global roaming bands you would expect out of a 2013 top-of-the-line Android device. It’s definitely coming to Verizon, we just don’t know when.

AT&T and US Cellular have already announced their own pre-orders for April 16, T-Mobile around May 1, but none gave a definitive shipping date. Maybe Verizon is waiting until they have a confirmation from Samsung on when their customers can pick up this new flagship? Or maybe they are simply still testing…and testing…and testing.

One of our favorite case makers, DODOcase, is hosting a mega-sale on all products over the next few days. They are a San Francisco based company that hand-makes book-style cases for devices like the Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and iPads using eco-friendly woods and fabrics. They also make these snazzy little wallet or pouch-style cases for phones (some tablets too) using premium leather and other materials. We took a look at their bookcases (for Nexus 7) and pouches (for Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3) for a number of devices a few weeks back, and are still using them to this day. These are premium products, to say the least.

But since they are “premium” and hand-made, they aren’t exactly the cheapest accessories on the planet, with prices starting at around $60. So now is a great time to consider ordering one, since today’s sale will land you a 38% discount. If you hold out, the discount drops to 28% tomorrow and then down to 18% on Sunday. No matter what, you’ll get a deal all weekend long, even if you are a king procrastinator.

Use the coupon code ”SUPPORTSMALL” during checkout and see the price drop drastically.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is weeks away from landing in our laps, so naturally, last year’s model is starting to see bigger discounts than ever. Today, over at eBay, you can pick up the international unlocked version of the Galaxy S3 in either white or black with 16GB of internal storage for $379.99. Oh, shipping is also free and the device is brand new.

While some may roll their eyes at least year’s model, the Galaxy S3 is still one of the best phones on the market. I pick mine up from time to time if I’m looking to feed my AT&T LTE addiction and always put it back down impressed. Multiple friends and family members also still love their GS3s even after having them for a year. Remember, that this phone was one of the first on the planet to launch with 2GB of RAM. You can expand that minimal 16GB internal storage amount as well, thanks to a microSD slot that supports 64GB cards.

Update: Deal done.

23 notification toggles

4-in-1 reboot menu

Fully rotating homescreens

Wifi Tether app working right out of the box

According to a Samsung insider, the OEM is currently making plans to upgrade certain devices to the upcoming Android 5.0 operating system. From what was reported, it looks like the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 can expect to see it, as well as the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy Note 8.0. Android 5.0, which is rumored to be named Key Lime Pie, should be unveiled at this year’s Google I/O event in May.

As for which <del>current</del> older devices are getting the bump up to Android 4.2.2, the list is pretty impressive. There is the Galaxy S3 mini, the Galaxy S2 and most of its variants, the OG Galaxy Note, and a ton of other non-top tier devices.

It’s nice to hear about OEM’s staying on top of the ball when it comes to updates to Android.

If you caught yesterday’s Unpacked event from Samsung, you noticed they took plenty of time to show off a lot of interesting new software features that will come baked into the Galaxy S4. In a recent interview, Samsung’s VP of Portfolio Planning confirmed that a lot of the software enhancements that we saw yesterday would make their way to Samsung’s other flagship devices, as long as they are not hardware dependent.

Anything that we can do that’s not dependent on hardware like infrared, we’ll definitely bring to all the flagship devices.

It would be nice to see some of that new camera software make its way to the Galaxy S3 and Note 2, along with the new scrolling features as well. I know a few folks think that some of the new features are somewhat “tacky” or “gimmicky,” but it’s nice to see a company thinking completely out of the box and bringing new and innovative features to the Android platform. Keep it coming, Samsung.

Speaking of software, check out Kellen’s software tour from yesterday.

Kellex was finally able to go hands-on with the new Galaxy S4, and what better thing to do with the device, than to compare it to last year’s models. In this short video, we put the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 right next to the brand new Galaxy S4 for a real size comparison.

To sum it up in words, Samsung did an amazing job at making the S4 feel smaller in hand, but bring an even bigger display to the table than the S3. It’s pretty remarkable.

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 now official, we felt it was necessary to compare the device to the two previously released Samsung flagships, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.
