As if the brand new Galaxy S4 and last year’s best selling phone the Galaxy S3 didn’t already look enough alike, Samsung is looking to make the software as similar as possible as well. SamMobile has a leaked version of the Android 4.2.2 build that Samsung is working on bringing to the S3. Not only does it upgrade your device to the latest version of Android, but many of the new features from the S4 will be included as well. 

The list of features that come from the new version of Android and the new TouchWiz is pretty long, but the big features include the new S4 lockscreen, which includes multiple widgets, clock resizing and other nifty features. New S-Voice, settings menu and smart switch widgets have all been added as well. Android 4.2.2 Firmware Leaked for Galaxy S3, Brings Lots of S4 Features is a post from: Droid Life

T-Mobile customers in possession of a Samsung Galaxy S3 should see an update being pushed out to their phones, bringing them up to Android version 4.1.2. The build number is T999UVDMD5. Inside, users can now access Samsung’s multi-window software feature, allowing for two apps to be used simultaneously, making that multi-tasking machine even sweeter. 

On top of that, Blocking Mode has been added, along with Samsung Gallery, Paper Artist and some enhanced camera options.

This morning, Sprint and Samsung announced an exclusive new color for the Galaxy S3 called, amethyst purple. Oooh, pretty. It’s the same S3, 4.8″ display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, NFC, and that 2,100mAh battery.

According to the press release it is available starting today for $99 on a new to year agreement, so if you like purple and you like last year’s tech, head to Sprint right now.

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 arriving towards the end of the month, Verizon has gone ahead and slashed the price of the Galaxy S3 to $99 on contract, likely in an attempt to move left-over stock. While Big Red has yet to even acknowledge the fact that the Galaxy S4 exists or that they will carry it, price cuts on previous year models are almost always a good sign. 

Also, keep in mind that we have seen their variant cruise through the FCC already, sporting all of the LTE and global roaming bands you would expect out of a 2013 top-of-the-line Android device. It’s definitely coming to Verizon, we just don’t know when.

AT&T and US Cellular have already announced their own pre-orders for April 16, T-Mobile around May 1, but none gave a definitive shipping date. Maybe Verizon is waiting until they have a confirmation from Samsung on when their customers can pick up this new flagship? Or maybe they are simply still testing…and testing…and testing.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is weeks away from landing in our laps, so naturally, last year’s model is starting to see bigger discounts than ever. Facebook Home is official and launching April to the Google Play store. Device compatibility is limited for now, as Facebook has worked to make the experience as polished as can be. The first run of devices includes the HTC One and One X. From Samsung we’ll see compatibility for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 2. Other devices will come down the road.

Tablet support is also coming, but not for a few of months.

According to a Samsung insider, the OEM is currently making plans to upgrade certain devices to the upcoming Android 5.0 operating system. From what was reported, it looks like the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 can expect to see it, as well as the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy Note 8.0. Android 5.0, which is rumored to be named Key Lime Pie, should be unveiled at this year’s Google I/O event in May. 

As for which current older devices are getting the bump up to Android 4.2.2, the list is pretty impressive. There is the Galaxy S3 mini, the Galaxy S2 and most of its variants, the OG Galaxy Note, and a ton of other non-top tier devices.

It’s nice to hear about OEM’s staying on top of the ball when it comes to updates to Android.

Samsung Galaxy Note and S2 to Receive Android 4.2.2, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 to Receive Android 5.0 is a post from: Droid Life

If you caught yesterday’s Unpacked event from Samsung, you noticed they took plenty of time to show off a lot of interesting new software features that will come baked into the Galaxy S4. In a recent interview, Samsung’s VP of Portfolio Planning confirmed that a lot of the software enhancements that we saw yesterday would make their way to Samsung’s other flagship devices, as long as they are not hardware dependent. 

Anything that we can do that’s not dependent on hardware like infrared, we’ll definitely bring to all the flagship devices.

It would be nice to see some of that new camera software make its way to the Galaxy S3 and Note 2, along with the new scrolling features as well. I know a few folks think that some of the new features are somewhat “tacky” or “gimmicky,” but it’s nice to see a company thinking completely out of the box and bringing new and innovative features to the Android platform. Keep it coming, Samsung.

Kellex was finally able to go hands-on with the new Galaxy S4, and what better thing to do with the device, than to compare it to last year’s models. In this short video, we put the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 right next to the brand new Galaxy S4 for a real size comparison. 

To sum it up in words, Samsung did an amazing job at making the S4 feel smaller in hand, but bring an even bigger display to the table than the S3. It’s pretty remarkable.
