Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2) is finally ready for the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy Note. Yes, the original. AT&T announced the update this morning as going live today, May 3, so be on the lookout should you still own this device.

With Android 4.1, you get all sorts of new features over Ice Cream Sandwich. Google Now is probably the most important, but you’ll see better and smarter notifications, along with a “premium package of new features including Popup Note, which allows users to instantly and conveniently write down directions, phone numbers, and other information while on a call. Popup Video and Browser allow users to watch video or browse the web while performing other tasks.”

Even though Samsung has their Galaxy Note devices that include a tablet with a 10.1″ screen, it seems they don’t want to let their Galaxy Tab line die quite yet. SamMobile has information from their sources that says the next iteration of the Galaxy Tab is coming in the near future and that Samsung will be utilizing AMOLED displays in 7 and 10″ inch devices.

Samsung already makes the Nexus 10 tablet with one of the best displays in the market at the moment, but it looks like they don’t want to stop there. They have reportedly received lots of positive feedback on their AMOLED displays and want to work that into a larger tablet size, which up until this point has been hard to do. The rumor states that we would end up seeing this new high resolution tablet unveiled at IFA this year alongside the Galaxy Note 3.

Samsung Reportedly Planning on Large AMOLED Screen for Their Next Galaxy Tab is a post from: Droid Life

According to a Samsung insider, the OEM is currently making plans to upgrade certain devices to the upcoming Android 5.0 operating system. From what was reported, it looks like the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 can expect to see it, as well as the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy Note 8.0. Android 5.0, which is rumored to be named Key Lime Pie, should be unveiled at this year’s Google I/O event in May. 

As for which current older devices are getting the bump up to Android 4.2.2, the list is pretty impressive. There is the Galaxy S3 mini, the Galaxy S2 and most of its variants, the OG Galaxy Note, and a ton of other non-top tier devices.

It’s nice to hear about OEM’s staying on top of the ball when it comes to updates to Android.

Samsung Galaxy Note and S2 to Receive Android 4.2.2, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 to Receive Android 5.0 is a post from: Droid Life

The Galaxy Note 2 may be all the rage right now, but the original Note is still out in consumer’s hands around the world. Samsung has started rolling out an update to bring the device up to Android 4.1.2 as long as you have the GT-N7000 (international) model.

While this might not be 4.2.2, the build is now JZO54K and comes with tons of features like Multi-Window and new notifications. All the S-Pen integration is still there and Samsung has ditched the old UI for the more modern Nature UX that you find on the Galaxy S3. Check Samsung KIES if you can’t wait for it to be pulled to your device.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note line has become known for having the S-Pen everywhere it goes. Samsung and developers alike have made apps specifically for the S-Pen, but Samsung wants to make the writing experience a little bit better. Today, the popular pen tablet maker, Wacom, has announced that Samsung has laid out $58.9 million for a 5% share in the company.

Wacom owns an enormous 85% of the pen tablet market worldwide, so if anyone knows styli, it’s Wacom. This money will go towards a better relationship between Wacom and Samsung and “product development to be supplied to Samsung Electronics.” Samsung’s S-Pen is already pretty useful, so it looks like they’re going to make it even better with this new deal.

Today, Samsung has confirmed that they will indeed be updating the original Galaxy Note to Jelly Bean, bringing their premium suite of applications and features to the 5.3″ device. Included in the premium suite is the popular multi-window feature, as well as other apps like Paper Artist, Pop-up Browser, Easy Clip, and more. 

No official word on when owners can expect the update to roll out, but it shouldn’t be too far out with Samsung creating landing pages for the update.

Samsung to Bring Premium Suite Upgrade to Original Galaxy Note is a post from: Droid Life

New rumors out of Korea and obtained by SamMobile, introduce us to Samsung’s “Project J,” which could be the codename for the new Galaxy S device, along with a new Note, and a big ol’ 13.3″ tablet. According to this rumor, “Project J” will be introduced in April as the next generation of Galaxy S devices, something we assume means Galaxy S4 (or Galaxy SIV). Their sources had no other details, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone that followed the maximum security that surrounded the Galaxy S3. 

Other than the new Galaxy S phone, these rumors suggest that a new Note-style device will arrive for Europe. It won’t have S Pen functionality, and is more of an entry-level device to get users into bigger screens than anything. The S Pen feature set will all be Note exclusives.

Last, this rumor suggests that Samsung is interested in building a 13.3″ tablet with keyboard dock to take on Asus and their Transformer line. SamMobile’s sources wouldn’t specify the operating system, so it could be Windows 8 or Android.

The Galaxy S3 and Note 2 still seem so fresh in my mind, that it’s hard to even start dreaming about what’s coming next. Are you ready for Samsung to introduce new devices or are you satisfied with what you’ve got?

In a press conference, just two days before the MLS Cup, David Beckham was addressing the media when an iPhone on the press table rang. The phone clearly belonged to a media member, as you can see the variety of devices laid out on the table to record the conversation. Beckham made a crack at the vibrating phone, asking the crowd if he should answer it. But like the good spokesperson he is, took a moment to plug his sponsor, saying, “It’s not a Samsung, sorry, I can’t.” 

As you may recall, Beckham was a part of one of Samsung’s commercials for the Olympics and Galaxy Note that went viral. In the spot, he kicks soccer balls into a wall of drums to play out Beethoven’s Ode To Joy.

American Airlines is already giving in-flight entertainment with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1s for customers, but now they are looking to upgrade their flight attendants as well. They’ve been testing the program out since spring and AA plans to move forward and get all of their flight attendants the Galaxy Note “tablet” to help out with passenger information and seating.

After testing “many devices” the Galaxy Note was decided upon for giving a lot of screen space and functionality while still only taking up one hand and being able to fit into a pocket. Information on earlier flights, seating arrangements and plane delays will all come up on these Notes and make information easily accessible to attendants and passengers. AA promises “a whole suite of applications” to come down the road to integrate the devices even more.

American Airlines Plans to Equip 17,000 Flight Attendants with Galaxy Notes is a post from: Droid Life

After a vocal Samsung supporter took to their Facebook page to see whatever happened to a possible Galaxy Note release on Verizon, Samsung’s Relations team had an interesting answer for him. Instead of saying that nothing was coming for Verizon customers or completely ignoring his inquiry altogether, Samsung mentions they have nothing to “announce just yet.” We can’t help but feel that this response could hint at something to come.

They go on to say that Mr. Williams should check back when they have more info. Could it be the Galaxy Note 2 that is to be announced at this year’s IFA? Something else? Or this could be another “Whoopsie!” by another PR rep on an OEM social network page. Come on, Samsung. Don’t tease.

Samsung Hinting at Possible Galaxy Note-like Device Coming to Verizon? is a post from: Droid Life

We aren’t sure if this is an error or simply the greatest deal of the year in mobile. Walmart, through their online wireless store, is selling the brand new T-Mobile Galaxy Note for $349 off-contract. You can grab it for free with a contract, but at $349, it’s only $100 more than T-Mobile is selling it for on-contract. Sites like Wirefly, who normally discount devices like these to death, still have it listed as $229 on-contract.

Update:  This was clearly an error. The device is no longer listed with Walmart at all. In fact, the link below now directs to some cheap Prism phone.

If you are out of contract and thinking about T-Mobile, this wouldn’t be a bad choice. Grab yourself an off-contract Note and sign-up for a prepaid plan. Tough to beat that idea.

Walmart Selling T-Mobile Galaxy Note for $349 Off-Contract, Steal of the Century? (Updated) is a post from: Droid Life

According to the insiders of SamMobile, Samsung plans to roll out Jelly Bean to their top tier of devices starting sometime between this quarter and Q4 of this year. As per their report, the Galaxy S3 would be the first to see the update and testing is already underway. If everything goes according to plan, we could expect the push sometime around this quarter.

As for the Galaxy S2, Note, and Note 2, they can expect to see a possible Jelly Bean update sometime in Q4. As is the nature of rumors and insiders, Samsung has neither confirmed nor denied these reports. A winter release would make plenty of sense for JB to arrive for the Galaxy S3, given they have plenty of time to work the kinks out and so they can update their TouchWiz skin accordingly.

Since our poll yesterday showed that many of you have upgraded recently to the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy SIII you might be interested in this bit of news. Samsung took to their Facebook page to announce Samsung Upgrade, a service that will give you a few dollars for sending in your old phone that you may not be using anymore. As long as you have purchased, or plan on purchasing, a Galaxy SIII, a Galaxy Note or the still good Galaxy SII, Samsung will give you some cash for sticking with them.

The process does sound a little sketchy, after sending your phone in when you have your new device, Samsung will send you a check back in the mail for the quote that they gave you on the website. T-Mobile Officially Announces Samsung Galaxy Note, Arriving in “the Coming Weeks”

Late last night, T-Mobile released a short press release letting the world know that they will begin stocking and selling the Galaxy Note sometime soon. It’s been a long time coming, but the 5.3″ phablet will be available sometime in August if rumors are correct. It will sport the Snapdragon S3 processor clocked in at 1.5GHz, but will have no LTE radio, only T-Mo’s HSPA+. It will also feature ICS out of the box, another welcome feature. Sprint’s LTE network is coming, just ask all the owners of the HTC EVO 4G LTE who are waiting for it. We just don’t exactly know when, but when it does get here, we know where it will be going live. Sprint laid out their plans though for 15 cities to go live when their new network is ready to go.

Could AT&T Be Working On its Own Shared Data Plans?

After the uproar that occurred when Verizon launched their Share Everything Plans, it’s hard to think another carrier would consider it, but AT&T might be following suit. A screenshot from an AT&T customer detailing his or her billing cycle showed a “Group Data” section that was unused, but was measured in MB anyway. This is far from definitive proof, but it might be a sign that AT&T is looking to cash in on shared data plans just like Verizon has. Time will tell if the two largest national wireless carriers will soon force their customers to switch to these new plans.

AT&T Galaxy SIII Updated to Take Away Global Search Function as a “Precautionary Measure”

The patent wars rage on with the Galaxy SIII on both Sprint and now AT&T being updated to dumb down their search function. Google and Samsung are looking to avoid more injunctions against Android devices like what happened to the Galaxy Nexus not too long ago. ”Samsung has updated the software for the Galaxy S III as a precautionary measure to ensure that U.S. consumers may enjoy using our innovative products without interruption,” is what Sammy had to say in a statement regarding the updates. It’s good to see that shipments won’t be stopped, but unfortunately Search, one of Google’s greatest strengths, is going to suffer for it.

Sprint Announces ICS Upgrades For HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G

Android 4.0 was such an amazing upgrade to the OS that it is news whenever an existing phone is going to receive it. Sprint and HTC are working together to get two of their phones upgraded “sometime next month.” The EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G will be getting OTA updates to ICS whenever the builds finish going through testing. Props to HTC for continuing to update it’s phones to the latest versions of Android time and time again.

ICS Update For Motorola Atrix 2 Leaks Out, OTA Sometime Within the Coming Months?

The method named “Cheesecake” is basically tricking your phone into pinging servers with test builds of phones and downloading them. We’ve come across many updates using this method and now we can add the Atrix 2 to this list as well. Someone pinging the servers through Cheesecake came across the upgrade to ICS and proceeded to download it. This usually means that the update is in testing, and that we could see it sometime soon.

But Big Blue just announced that they will finally start stocking the phone in their stores this week. Unfortunately, if you were looking to show off your new phone to everyone at your 4th of July cookout, you’re going to be out of luck, however, head into the store on Friday if you need it then.

International (GSM) Motorola RAZR Receiving ICS as Well

Verizon DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners weren’t the only lucky ones over the weekend. Android 4.0.4 began rolling out to almost all the RAZRs rather than just those in the US. This update is the lightly skinned version that Motorola has provided and should be available for your phone now. Head over to Settings > About Phone > System Updates to see if the update is available to be downloaded.

T-Mobile Pushes Back Galaxy Note to August 8th? 

T-Mobile never officially announced the Galaxy Note, let alone a release date, but there was some good evidence supporting a July 11th launch date. That does not seem to be the case anymore, however. The guys over at TmoNews have come across an internal T-Mo document that now points to 8/15 for the release of the Note. T-Mobile needs to hurry up and release it soon before the Note 2 arrives.

Elder HTC Incredible S Receiving Android 4.0.4 OTA

Before most flagship phones are even in testing for Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC is gracing the users of the Incredible S with an OTA. Users in Europe are reporting that their phones are being pushed to Android 4.0.4 with Sense 3.6 in tow. It is fantastic to see a device maker put so much weight into updating existing phones in a timely manner like HTC is doing. No word on when other Incredible S users will see the update, but HTC will surely tell us when it happens.
