According to a source of SamMobile, Samsung has three different working prototypes of the Galaxy Note 3 that they are leaning towards. One design is basically a larger Galaxy S4, which wouldn’t shock anybody given that’s what the Galaxy Note 2 was to the Galaxy S3. Then, there are two other designs which intrigue us quite a bit more.

One is said to feature a flexible display, something we have been hearing about quite a bit from LG and Sammy’s camps. Lastly, there is a completely different design that has zero details known about it. So basically, it does not feature a flexible display and it doesn’t look like a Galaxy S4. Mystery device.

Samsung still has a few months before mass production would need to start in order to have this device ready by the end of the year, so we shall see which design they end up going with. While it would be somewhat disappointing to see them take the easy route with an “uninspired” Galaxy S4 design, it could be that Samsung is stuck in either a design rut or a “hey, we’re making bank off this design so we’re going to milk it” rut.

Which would you want to see? Larger Galaxy S4 Note 3, flexible Note 3, or completely different design “mystery” Note 3?

According to Samsung insiders, the Korean manufacturer is looking to finally break away from their plastic roots for the upcoming Galaxy Note 3. When seeing the praise the HTC One received for sporting an all-aluminum shell, Samsung got to thinking. Apparently, even the Galaxy S4 could have sported a metal body, but time was running short and Samsung opted for the more easily mass-manufactured plastic design that is to go on sale at the end of the month.

While the insider did not give a specific material that the Galaxy Note 3 would be comprised of, it appears that they stressed it would be more metallic. So, take that however you choose. Interestingly enough, some people do prefer Samsung’s plastic over a metal body, which cuts down on weight and adds flexibility to devices.

Which do you prefer? Metal or plastic?

It was previously reported that the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 would sport a 6.3″ display, but then it was toned back a bit to just 5.9″. Beyond the size of their displays, little is known about the two monsters, but color me somewhat excited. If I had to guess, we could see these devices possibly in time for IFA and then a holiday release.

We have asked a million times, but how big is too big? 6.3″ is definitely getting there.

In a recent talk with the Korea Times, a Samsung official may have slipped up, giving us some pretty good details as to what we can expect to see from an upcoming Galaxy Note 3. The unnamed official stated that they, “are working to introduce a 5.9″ device, using an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display.”

5.9″ does seem rather large in the grand scheme of things, almost becoming tablet size. In my eyes, what made the Galaxy Note 2′s design such a success, was that Samsung was able to curve the body in such a way where in the hand, 5.5-inches didn’t feel all that large and the bezel is also rather small. Another way you can hope to fit more display in a smaller body, is get rid of the home button. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

The official stated that the device is being set for a second-half of 2013 release, which we have already assumed given their history.

Thoughts on 5.9″?

Over the weekend, it appears that a Samsung-branded Qi wireless charging unit hit the FCC. That’s neat, but it leaves us wondering – which device in their lineup can we expect this to be marketed with? Could this be a super late arrival for the Galaxy S3/Note 2 or will they actually launch an accessory with a new device such as the Galaxy S4?

When launching a new device, it’s no secret that Android OEM’s have had issues pushing compatible accessories at the same time. Pogo dock for the Galaxy Nexus, anyone? If Samsung can break that vicious cycle, that would be beneficial for everyone involved.

Either way, wireless charging will become a big factor for smartphones whether we all want it or not. It’s becoming another standard for top tier smartphones, much like NFC, 1080p displays, and Verizon-branded home buttons. /s

According to Unwired View, there is no doubt that the next rendition of Samsung’s popular Galaxy Note device will sport the brand new Exynos 5 Octa processor. The Galaxy Note III is said to launch sometime this year in the second half, featuring something like 6.3″ display, dwarfing the already monstrous 5.5″ Galaxy Note II.

The Octa chip features two quad-core processors, one for high performance and one for power conservation. So, as many have said already, it should not be labeled as a true octa-core chip as the two are never running simultaneously. As for the Galaxy S4, which hasn’t been in the headlines too much yet, is still unspoken for in terms of what chipset we should expect.

As we saw last year, Samsung held their own event in London to unveil the Galaxy S3, so our money would be on them doing the same thing this year and we should plan on not seeing their new lineup at MWC or CTIA. It is a bummer we have to wait, but these next two devices should certainly be worth it, given there are rumors of flexible displays, very high-res screens, and now the Exynos 5 Octa inside.

Consumers are finally getting used to working their 5.5″ Galaxy Note 2 device, but rumors are already out concerning Samsung’s next Note iteration. In a move that may or may not shock you, Samsung is rumored to be doing it BIG next year. In fact, according to Korea Times, the Galaxy Note 3 will reportedly feature a giant 6.3″ display, further blurring the line between tablet and phone. If this thing isn’t a “phablet” I don’t know what is.

Other than a rumored display size, no other info was given on the Note 3. As for the Galaxy S4, it is reported that Samsung could unveil their next flagship phone at the 2013 MWC, but given they are doing just fine at holding their own events for major product launches, we will have to wait and see.

So, our question for you, is 6.3″ just completely ridiculous or could you manage holding that thing up to your face for a call? And at that size, forget abut making calls. What about having it fit in your pocket?
