We aren’t even a full week into October and already, the next Nexus rumors are starting to flood in. It’s tough to tell which should be taken as pure speculation or semi-truth, but we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t share them with you. Plus, who doesn’t love a good Nexus rumor? After all, this is the one phone (or potentially more than one going forward) that we look forward to each year.

After dropping a wealth of Nexus rumor talk on us last night, Android and Me is claiming to have spoken to a source who had some hands-on time with the LG Optimus G Nexus. Their source says that the phone is definitely “Optimus based” and that it looks a lot like the Galaxy Nexus. There is a silver ring around the outer edge of it, with a Nexus logo (similar to the one the Nexus 7) on the back, and it’s running Android 4.2:

“I can confirm the next nexus is LG Optimus based. The phone looks surprisingly like the Galaxy Nexus and does not have sharp corners like the LG Optimus we already know. It has a silver’ring like the iPhone 3G around the outer edge of the screen which seemed to be similar to the Galaxy Nexus in size but was much better in brightness.

I couldn’t have said if it was larger in the few minutes that I had the phone. Also, it has Nexus written on the back like the Nexus 7 except there is a color element to it. The ‘X’ is in four colors. There was also the LG logo on the back.

Android 4.2 in its current state looked exactly like the 4.1.1 we love. There were no tabs on that build version for home-screens as you suggested from your other tipster. What I was amazed by is how fluid everything seemed to be from exiting apps, switching, etc. It seems like they’ve increased the number of transitions and their types. It still had the hodge-podge mess of multiple communication tools: Messenger, GTalk, Voice and SMS.”

Along with that story, we have another supporting the LG Nexus talk, from a Korean site called NewsTomato. They claim that LG will indeed launch an “Optimus Nexus” next month in the U.S., but that Samsung and Sony will also join the party at some point with the Galaxy Nexus 2 and Xperia Nexus, respectively.

To back that story, famed rumormonger DigiTimes chimes in as well, but they went as far as to toss HTC into the fray. The thing is, this rumor from DT really just re-words all of the previous rumors that we have heard over the last couple of months or weeks. It’s nothing new and shouldn’t be taken as confirmation of anything reported in the past. This is DigiTimes after all.

What do you think? The LG phone sounds like it’s happening, but what about the rest? If Samsung and Sony jump into the game, when will it be?

Still contemplating the purchase of a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon? How does $49.99 sound? Big Red appears to have dropped the price to that today after adding a “Promo” discount on top of a long-standing “Online” discount. We don’t necessarily think that this means a replacement phone such as the Galaxy Nexus 2 is on the horizon, but is instead a sign that Big Red is cleaning house to make room for the Galaxy Note 2, RAZR HD (and MAXX HD), Spectrum 2, Lumia 920, HTC 8X, and of course, the DROID Incredible X - all of which should be available by the end of November.

The Galaxy Nexus remains one of my favorite phones of all time even with its atrocious battery life. You just can’t beat the developer community that comes with a Nexus.

The GT-i9260 could potentially be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2. Since the original Galaxy Nexus rolls with the model number GT-i9250, it would make sense that the next version of it would jump up in numbering sequence. To add to that thought, remember that Samsung almost always keeps follow-up phones on a similar model number scheme, much like we have seen with the Galaxy S (i9000) to S2 (i9100) to S3 (i9300).

So if the the GT-i9260 is the new Galaxy Nexus, then the first photos taken with it have been uploaded to Picasa. No real information is given other than the f/2.65 aperture and 4mm focal length. The pictures are most definitely not taken at full resolution, so it’s tough to tell if this will be an upgraded 8MP camera or not.

In one of the photos, we do have someone using a Samsung laptop and the mention of Bluetooth on a spreadsheet, but that could be a coincidence and not phone related. In the past though, Picasa has been a great source to find the first mentions of unreleased phones.

Other than random rumors, we know nothing about this phone. Most are expecting it to look almost identical to the original Galaxy Nexus, but with an upgraded 4.65″ display, more RAM, and a better processor.

If there is indeed a Galaxy Nexus 2, are you interested?

According to a report out of Android Noodles, a document showing the winter roadmap for Japan’s Docomo, lists out three (3) different Nexus devices. The three manufacturers on their list are Samsung, LG, and Sony. The report mentions a 3-column table that references the three devices, however, no picture or further proof was provided.

What we do know, is that a report out of the Wall Street Journal back in May suggested that Google wanted to have more than one Nexus partner this year and had opened up the program to at least 5 different OEMs. So if Docomo has three Nexus devices on their winter roadmap, and Asus already released the Nexus 7, we are certainly on our way to matching that previous report.

Also, we saw a Samsung device by the model number GT-I9260 with “Nexus” attached to it, this morning.

At this point, we can only consider this rumor until more hard evidence comes out. We have seen LG mentioned in Nexus conversations for some time now, so maybe this is a sign that they are finally getting their shot. Sony, on the other hand, is a bit surprising, but then again, they are a company that needs to make something happen aside from their tired old Xperia line of phones.

The names mentioned in this report for each device are Samsung Galaxy Nexus II, LG Optimus Nexus, and Sony Xperia Nexus.

Believable? Disappointing?

Every once in a while, we write up a story with one goal – to head off another story that’s floating around before it gets out of hand. That’s what we are doing today, with this Galaxy Nexus 2 rumor. It goes a little something like this.

One of our favorite sites to browse from time-to-time, Concept Phones, posted up the picture we have included above, calling it the Galaxy Nexus 2. They were clear that it was simply a concept and not real, but a few sites picked it up here and there over the weekend to talk about the possibility which has led to certain religious-based sites (that will remain nameless) thinking that there actually is a Galaxy Nexus 2 on the way. They even attempted to get into details about Google and Samsung partnering up again, and that the device would launch with Android 4.1, Jelly Bean. Get right out of town!

I’ll just say this – there could be a Galaxy Nexus 2 in the works, but the picture above certainly won’t be it. Details of it also have not leaked, so any word or “report” you read about this phone over the next couple of months will likely be nothing more than a fabrication, taken out of context from other reports based off of the latest concept phone.

What we do have, is a report from the Wall Street Journal, claiming that Google has opened up the Nexus program to multiple OEMs, so that we could have multiple Nexus phones and tablets to choose from this winter. If this is true, then Samsung will likely be one of the OEMs bidding for a spot in the program, as they were pegged to make the last two Nexus phones. At that time, we could see a Galaxy Nexus 2, but part of me thinks they would go with a much more original name.

And, back to your non-stop watching of the Olympics. Glad we cleared that up.
