Back in mid November, it was reported that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and Gear Manager app were receiving updates to allow any third party applications to send notifications right to the device while attached to your wrist. As it turns out, the update was only for European variants at the time, and now, Samsung has confirmed that the update should also roll out to U.S. models this week. (more…)
Supposed sales figures for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch made the rounds yesterday, putting the device at only 50,000 units sold after two months of availability. Samsung was quick to fire back with numbers of its own, stating that they had shipped 800,000 watches, a figure that even went beyond Samsung’s own sales expectations. Although, as Samsung probably knows, there is a big difference between units shipped and units actually sold. (more…)
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch, a device hindered by its maker to only work on phones running TouchWiz, is becoming a bit more interesting this week. As reported today by several sources, the watch has sold only about 50,000 units, a number that is remarkably low considering how much marketing effort Samsung put into the device. Regardless of how many people are rocking one, you should know that there is in fact a group of developers working on the device on forums, and there are even some custom ROMs floating around. Who’d have thunk it? (more…)
AT&T customers currently using a Galaxy S4 should be seeing an update to Android 4.3 this morning, as the OTA update started pushing out late last night. The update is to build JSS15J.1337UCUEMJ9, bringing with it plenty of new Android goodies, plus compatibility for Samsung’s smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear. (more…)
Verizon’s Galaxy S4 is now receiving Android 4.3 in a brand new update that went live moments ago. The update was approved this morning, bringing along Galaxy Gear Support, band 4 LTE, and some other tweaks along with the most current version of Android (for the time being) to Samsung’s 2013 flagship. We’re as surprised as anyone to see this update arrive first on a Verizon phone before any other carrier, but you won’t find us complaining.
To download the update head into Settings>More>About phone>Software update.
Cheers djgrundel, Patrick, and Scott!
Thanks to a changelog posted by Verizon, we now have even more details for the Android 4.3 update that is scheduled to hit the Galaxy S4 over the coming days. We first reported the update this morning, however, Samsung’s list of changes didn’t quite meet Big Red’s usually detailed standards. In the images included in this post, we not only get a deeper look at build VRUEMJ7, but also a Galaxy Gear tutorial for those new to the smartwatch, since the GS4 will support it going forward, and new additions and tweaks you’ll be glad to see. Samsung confirmed to us this morning that Android 4.3 updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy S3 would begin rolling out to U.S. variants as early as today. Since we received a screenshot of the potential timeline for those updates to happen from each carrier, with one showing Verizon’s GS4 variant receiving the update today, we have been on the lookout for clues. We think we found it on one of Samsung’s support pages for the VZW Galaxy S4. The update may be rolling out today after all. (more…)
