Samsung continues to devote development and marketing resources to its homegrown smartwatches, much to Larry Page’s chagrin. New reports out of Korea claim that Samsung will be announcing their own Google Glass-like wearable units in September of this year. The news comes from Business Korea, who spoke with a Samsung representative that stated the company will be ready to “roll out Gear Glass” in time for IFA 2014. (more…)
Because of the moderate success of the original Samsung Galaxy Gear, followed by the quick introduction of 2nd-gen Gear 2 devices, Samsung and its retail partners are doing whatever they can to offload old Gear stock. The deals on the Galaxy Gear have come quick and often, like today’s flash sale from Best Buy through eBay.
The official Best Buy account through eBay has “manufacturer refurbished” Galaxy Gear smartwatches in three colors (grey, black, and rose gold) on sale today for $99. Keep in mind that this product originally retailed for $299, so we are now at third-of-the-price status. That’s how badly they want to move these out of their warehouses. $99 for a smartwatch that has a decent design, but not much in terms of functionality. But hey, if you wanted to test out a smartwatch, and own a Galaxy device from Samsung, $99 is tempting. (more…)
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch is still around, and believe it or not, I still like the way it looks. I’m personally a big fan of the nipple cam, whether anyone wants to agree with me or not.
