LG’s fabled successor to the fantastic G2 may have different specifications than were initially rumored. According to TechManiacs sources, LG was obfuscating the G3’s true hardware with engineering samples, but final production devices will pack more powerful internals. (more…)
After seeing the Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) update for Verizon’s version of the LG G2 become available through VZW’s Software Upgrade Assistant, we figured the OTA (over-the-air) update would rollout at any minute. Sure enough, Verizon has approved it and posted the changelog for build VS98024A, which means it really should be here with a couple of days, if not today for all to download. (more…)
The LG G2 Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) update from Verizon is finally available as build VS98024A, though you can’t exactly grab it over-the-air. No, sir, this update is currently only available through Verizon’s Software Upgrade Assistant, which is only available on Windows for LG phones. Sorry, Mac homies.
In order to update on Windows, all you have to do is plug-in your LG G2, then either wait for Windows to prompt you for an action or open a folder and look for a Verizon/LG drive to appear. In that folder, you should find a SWUpgradeLauncher app that will walk you through the steps to getting your Kit Kat on. (more…)
For whatever reason, the Kit Kat update for the LG G2 on AT&T left out Android 4.4’s Tap & Pay settings menu, even though the device should have no problem using Host Card Emulation to make mobile payments. There are work-arounds, for sure, but most involve sideloading hacked Google Wallet apks or flashing a custom ROM. For those who were expecting the functionality out of the gate, life has been a bit frustrating.
Things are changing today, thanks to an update that AT&T is pushing to the G2. The changelog is minimal, but does say specifically that it involves “updates to Google+ and Google Wallet.” At least one reader has already confirmed that Tap & Pay is now working. (more…)
Hardcore Android enthusiasts currently rocking an LG G2 on Verizon should enjoy this news, as an unofficial OTA build of Kit Kat has been released by third-party developers for flashing. The current installation method requires a bit of adb knowledge, but if you are comfortable with tinkering, then this should not prove too difficult for you. (more…)
Sprint announced this morning that its variant of the LG G2 is ready to receive an update to Kit Kat (Android 4.4). No other details were provided, but we do know from the update that hit the AT&T variant what we can expect.
According to AT&T’s changelog, we are looking at restyled UI elements in the notification and navigation areas, improved battery efficiency, faster processing speed, cloud printing, and enhancements to Knock On. (more…)
Ever since it was introduced with the LG G2, the KnockOn tap-to-wake software that LG patented has been a major focal point of its OEM software. LG even improved its own design by announcing KnockCode alongside the G Pro 2, which will launch later this year. Apparently, demand was so high for creating a personalized knocking pattern to unlock your device that LG is bringing it to more of their older devices. (more…)
The Android 4.4.2 (Kit Kat) update for the LG G2 on T-Mobile has been approved and is ready for rollout as early as today. The update showed up for manual flashing at the end of last week, but today marks the begin of the over-the-air (OTA) update.
