Apple Watch Sounds Like It has 1-Day Battery Life to Me, Just Like Most Smartwatches

Apple announced the Apple Watch today, a device that won’t actually arrive until some time in early 2015. Even though it isn’t going to be available for months, Apple still showed off the device’s potential features, design, different models, and an estimated price, which will start at $349. But for those in the Android game who have been interested in Android Wear and smartwatches in general, there was one piece to today’s presentation that was of interest – expected battery life. Of course, that information never did arrive, nor has it appeared on Apple’s own dedicated website section for the Watch. Well, not directly, but Apple has hinted at it a couple of times.

Android Wear watches, at least so far, have struggled to get more than a full day of use before needing to be charged. We have talked off and on about smartwatch battery life expections for weeks, especially now that the Moto 360 is available, suggesting that they need to be lessoned thanks to the technology involved here. Yet for whatever reason, tech enthusiasts had decided that Apple would unveil a watch that goes well beyond a day, maybe even three or four without needing to be charged. As unrealistic as that sounds, this is the world we live in. Expectations for Apple to change the game are always there, even if they haven’t for years.

I hate to break it to you, but from what we have heard and seen from Apple today, it certainly doesn’t appear as if they have reinvented battery tech for watches with the Apple Watch. (more…)

LG G Watch Drops to $179 Through Google Play on Apple Watch Day

The LG G Watch dropped to $179 through Google Play today in both black and white, just as Apple was showing off their new Apple Watch. Nice timing.

If you want a current watch platform that was built as a companion to your phone, not a device arriving in 2015 that is bloated with a smartphone-like experience, then by all means, check out the G Watch.

The $50 discount runs through September 23.

Thoughts on Moto 360 Battery Life

Thanks to a handful of initial reviews from select press that surfaced close to last Friday’s embargo time, everyone thinks the Moto 360 has terrible battery life. Forget the fact that these reviewers couldn’t possibly have given the device thorough testing on its battery in the 12 hours (some less) that they had the watch in hand, but after having one on wrist for four days now, I think I can safely say that battery life is no where near as terrible as it was made to sound.

Let’s talk about the Moto 360 and some battery-related items.  (more…)

Deal: LG G Watch in White or Black is $179 at Best Buy, $50 Off

Best Buy slashed the price of the LG G Watch by $50 this weekend, dropping it to $179 in either black or white. That right there, is a pretty good deal for one of the original Android Wear devices, which originally retailed for $229. In fact, it still is $229 through Google Play.

We reviewed the G Watch and came away interested in the future of Android Wear as a platform, but were a little bored with the device’s design. Also, keep in mind that LG just announced their new premium round version of the G Watch, the G Watch R, which should put this device to shame. But, if you want in on the Android Wear game, this is the best deal in town.

Comparison: LG G Watch R vs. Moto 360 vs. Samsung Gear S

Last night, the tech industry was treated to two new smartwatches from LG and Samsung, the G Watch R and Gear S. Both will go head-to-head with the Moto 360, a watch that is easily the most anticipated in the history of smartwatches, thanks to its round display. It’s a good time to be a smartwatch watcher.

We aren’t sure what has taken Motorola so long to release the 360 or provide us with official details on its features, but in that time, LG managed to create and unveil their own round watch, while Samsung attempted to do the same. The Moto 360 should still hit store shelves before either of those, though, so we wanted to put it up against the other two, to help you decide if it is still the watch for you (most of you are saying it is) or if waiting it out is the better option.   (more…)

LG G Watch Round Stops at FCC as Model LG-W110

At the beginning of this week, a new smartwatch from LG with a round face was nothing more than a rumor that was somewhat difficult to believe. Fast forward to today and we have both video and image teasers from LG for a watch that is indeed round and will be officially unveiled at IFA next week. It’s name could be G Watch R or R Watch or something completely different, but it is coming. To make matters even more official, the watch has already stopped by the FCC under model number LG-W110(more…)
