Release: Bugless Beast Froyo V0.1

by: | posted 06.09.10 | DROID, Root

Finally, after 25 emails and tweets of “Bugless Beast Froyo is out!”  we have a post! Haha.  You guys all really love you some Pete!  Below are a bunch of download links that should work for now.  If you have others, feel free to post them in the comments so that everyone who wants this can get a hold of it.  I’m not currently in a spot where I can upload. Sorry!

*Rooted users only.  Still not rooted?  Follow our full guide here.

This is not in ROM Manager yet, but should be soon.

Download: BBFroyoV01.zip (alt link)  (alt link2)  (alt link3)

Instructions…

1.  Download Bugless Beast Froyo V0.1 from one of the links above to your SD Card.
2.  Open ROM Manager and choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
3.  Navigate to the folder that has the BB Froyo file you just downloaded and tap on it.
4.  Probably a good idea to check the box to make a backup.
5.  It’s up to you if you want to check the box to “wipe data and cache.”

I came from FRF57 Froyo and this new BB installed just fine.  However, if you run into issues, flash your backup, re-install BB with at least one wipe.

6.  Allow your phone to boot into recovery, work some magic and BAM!  Done!

Feature list after the jump.

Adobe’s Flash Showcase, the One Stop Flash Shop

by: | posted 06.09.10 | News

When Android 2.2 finally became semi-available to the Motorola Droid, one of the first posts we did included the apk for the Flash 10.1 beta.  This is one of those apps/plugins that has had almost as much hype as Froyo and was supposed to change the way we used our mobile browsers forever.  Remember?  Well, right after we all got it up and running, many of us said to ourselves, “OK, what now?  What sites can I use this on?  Hulu hates us, so….”

Guess what?  Adobe already has us covered.  They’ve released the Adobe Flash Showcase which gives you a listing of the top mobile Flash enhanced sites so that you can take full advantage of your new toy.

Check out the Adobe Flash Showcase here.

Cheers Rodney!

Tip: Froyo Market Now Suggests Apps

by: | posted 06.09.10 | Apps, Tips

As you can see from the two screenies above, Froyo being on the left and 2.1 on the right, one of the new features of Android 2.2 is app suggestions for misspelled words in the Market.  Pretty handy right?  I’m actually surprised it took this long seeing as Google is known for well, being a top notch search engine.

Any other tips out there for the Froyo leak we gave to you yesterday?

Cheers Scott!

Download: Another New Baseband for your Froyo Droid

by: | posted 06.08.10 | DROID, News, Root

There is another new baseband update available to anyone running the new FRF57 Froyo build we posted this morning.  At this point I’m sort of confused as to what the previous baseband actually did if we have this new one which appears much more in line with previous baseband updates.  No matter what, this should help out call quality, signal strength, etc.

Now read all warnings…

*Warning 1* - It is highly recommended that you install the previous baseband (C_01.41.00R) before you install this one.

*Warning 2* – There is no proof that this is 100% legit or will not have a negative effect on your device.  It is also not all that easy to return to the previous baseband.  If you choose to install this, you are doing so at your own risk.

*Warning 3* – You will have to re-activate your phone if you apply the new baseband.

Instructions…

1.  Download:  baseband-update.zip
2.  Place file on the root of your SD card.
3.  Open ROM Manager and choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
4.  Scroll down and find the baseband-update.zip. Tap on it.
5.  Skip “wipe data and cache.”
6.  Check the box to make a backup.
7.  Press “OK” and allow the new baseband to be installed.
8.  When your phone reboots, you will have to re-activate your phone.
9.  Done!

Tip: Use Chrome to Phone in Froyo

by: | posted 06.08.10 | Apps, Tips

Remember all of those amazing new Android 2.2 features we were introduced to at Google I/O?  One of them being Chrome to Phone, which allows you to send directions, URLs and even files straight to your device without connecting it?  Well, now that we have a full leaked version of Froyo in the wild and available for download, you can finally take advantage of such brilliance.

Instructions…

1.  Visit the Chrome to Phone project site.
2.  If you are using Google Chrome, install the extension they have into your browser.
3.  If you use Firefox as a browser, install this add-on.
4.  Download the Chrome to Phone app to your phone and install it.
5.  Open the Chrome to Phone app, and select “register device.”
6.  Once it finishes, you are done.
7.  Now navigate to a website on your Chrome browser, and tap the cell phone extension button.
8.  It will likely ask you to login to a Google account. Login with whatever acct you registered.
9.  Link sent!

Pretty sweet right?  Are you starting to realize the potential this app and extension have?

Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57

by: | posted 06.08.10 | DROID, News, Root

Who wants a full Motorola Droid Android 2.2 build instead of just a ROM?  A big “thanks” needs to go out to DroidMod and Alldroid for leaking and cracking this new build first.  Yes, this is newer than the build you had on Saturday.  This comes with the stock kernel that can actually be overclocked to 800Mhz, the wifi works out of the box, and is as legit as it comes.  There is nothing hidden about this Froyo.

Again, huge thanks to to those that had this first.

Unfortunately, the original version did not have root access, so we’ve tossed in root and created our own nandroid for you to flash.  In a way, it’s almost like the Droid Life Froyo build.  (Funny.)

*Reminder* - You have to be rooted to do this.  New to rooting? Follow our full guide here.

Download:  droidlifefroyo-BS-20100608-0521.zip

Instructions…

*Note 1* - THIS IS IN SPRECOVERY. WILL NOT WORK IN CLOCKWORK RECOVERY.

*Note 2* -If you are coming from the previous Froyo build, you do not need to wipe data and cache.  If this is your first time getting Froyo’d, please perform a factory reset before step 5 in recovery.

1.  Download the new nandroid Froyo build from above.
2.  Unzip and drop folder in the “nandroid” folder on your SD card.
3.  Open ROM Manager and flash “alternate recovery” (SPRecovery).
4.  When it finishes, scroll up and choose the option to “Reboot into Recovery.”
5.  When SPRecovery loads, choose “backup/restore.”
6.  Choose “Advanced nandroid restore.”
7.  Select “Choose backup” and find the “droidlifefroyo-BS-20100608-0521″ backup.
8.  Select “Perform restore.”
9.  When it finishes, hit the “power” key to go back to the main menu and choose “reboot.”
10.  When it reboots, you should be Froyo’d with root!

Questions or comments?  Chrome to Phone time!

Updates: Time to answer some questions from the comments…

-Q: Is this stable?
-A: Yes it is. We wouldn’t post it if it wasn’t.

-Q:  I lost root! Now what?
-A: Boot into recovery and apply this update.zip.

-Q:  Can this be overclocked?
-A:  Yes.  The previous kernels we posted should all work.

-Q:  Is this the same build as the one posted everywhere last night?
-A:  No idea.  I got this from the original leak.

-Q: Will the previous radio update work?
-A: Yes it should still work.

-Q: What does “unrar” mean?
-A: Unraring is like unzipping.

Cheers to Wade for helping me out with this!  Go buy xScope.
