This morning, Flipboard received a major update to version 2.0 on Google Play. Inside the update is a gang of new features, including the ability to save content into your very own public magazine which others can subscribe to. If you choose, your magazine can also be made private, just in case you aren’t in the sharing mood. 

You can also share magazines via email and social networks, that way your “work” can reach as many people as possible. Beyond the creation of your own shareable magazines, the search feature got a a face lift and is now “front and center” throughout the application.

What’s New:

• Collect and save content into your own magazines, tap the “+” button to begin
• Your magazines are public, but can be made private
• Integrated Android share: add content from the Gallery & other apps to your magazines
• Bookmarklet to add items to your magazines from a browser
• Get notifications when people like, comment or subscribe to your magazines

• Personalized recommendations for more to read
• Search is now front & center, with improved results

Flipboard for Android Updated to Version 2.0, Time to Make Your Own Magazine is a post from: Droid Life

Two applications were pulled from the Galaxy Note 8.0 firmware recently, a special edition of Flipboard featuring support for S-Pens and Awesome Note, a multitasking note-taking app built for larger displays. The Flipboard apk is just like any other Flipboard, but as I mentioned, all you S-Pen fans can do some special previewing using the pen and Air View of certain content.  

As for Awesome Note, I will go ahead and recommend that anyone not running a display of 5.5″ or larger should leave this one alone. Awesome Note is a Samsung-created app, built specifically for the Note lineup of devices, featuring a ton of useful tricks. Naturally, you can take notes, write memos, set reminders, and list goes on and on. I suggest having a large display because when opened up on the Nexus 4, everything felt extremely cramped and that is never the best experience to have.

Flipboard With S-Pen Support and Awesome Note APKs Pulled From Galaxy Note 8.0 is a post from: Droid Life

With Google intending to kill off Google Reader by July of this year, people in my industry are freaking out a bit. You see, we all live and die with RSS feeds as we browse dozens throughout the day to help us create the stories that we bring to you. But we’re a small group, as the comments on this site and Twitter have helped us realize. RSS feeds are not as popular as they once were – if they were, Google wouldn’t be killing off their famed service. Many of you have turned to Twitter, Pulse, Flipboard, Google Currents, or a variety of other services.

Speaking of Currents, I retweeted a comment this afternoon from a reader who suggested Google kill it off instead of Reader. As someone who rarely looks at Currents unless it has received an update, I fully agree with this person, however, many of you were quick to point out that you enjoy the service and would rather stick a needle in your eye than use Reader.

Application updates are in the house. Today, we have the first major update of Carbon for Twitter, some minor fixes and additions for Flipboard, and of course, yet another update for Sliding Messaging.

Now, if any of you have Sliding Messaging installed on your device, you have probably noticed that this app receives about one hundred updates a week. While I appreciate this speedy work of the developer, is it just me that gets somewhat annoyed when I have to update the same app several times a day? That could just be me. By no means am I actually frustrated, but I did feel like pointing that out.

Recently, Dropbox and Flipboard received updates for Android users. Inside, Flipboard now supports Android 4.2′s Day Dream feature, allowing for stories to be posted right on your screen saver. For Dropbox, there are better photo sharing settings, as well as improvements to the user interface, which is always welcomed. 

Flipboard changelog:

• Now with Flipboard Daydream for Android 4.2 users.
• Allows you to create a screensaver made out of Flipboard covers.
• Fixed accidental flip when trying to scroll.
• More bug fixes.

Dropbox changelog:

• Easily share several photos at once

Flipboard Updated to Support Android Day Dream, Dropbox Gets Better Photo Management is a post from: Droid Life

A couple of popular Android apps received updates this morning that make them tablet optimized. NFL Mobile, the Verizon exclusive, now supports bigger screens with a new tablet UI, is ready for the post season, will have live video of select post season games (including the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl), and live audio of all post seasons games.

Flipboard, the popular news feed app that came over from iOS this year, received an update that only lists it as being “bug fixes,” however, it actually introduces a new tablet optimized layout. Instead of flipping up and down to jump between pages and stories, you now flip left and right. It looks a lot like the newest Google Currents, actually – very nice update.

Today, Flipboard received an update that makes it an even more enjoyable app to use. For those that like listening while reading, you can choose to add a “soundtrack” while you’re flipping through your feed and choose from a large assortment of audio feeds. They’re put into sections that meet your criteria such as tech, sports, news, etc. Then, along with that, you can also find music in general through a partnership with Soundcloud. Pretty awesome update.

Flipboard Leaves Beta, Arrives on Google Play is a post from: Droid Life

Google is playing their social network very close to the company vest, and haven’t really opened up the ecosystem to anyone yet. That’s why it’s big news that Google+ will soon be coming to Flipboard, at some point in the future. At a conference in London Bradley Horowitz, the Google vice president of product management in charge of Google+, showed off some basic functionality of how G+ would look and work on Flipboard.

He was also quick to point out that they would be taking their time until it looked good, saying they wanted to wait for the point “when we can do it in a way that we know is good for users.” This will certainly be good for the growth of G+, we hope to see it sooner than later. Flipboard Gets Access to Google+ API, Tight Integration on the Way is a post from: Droid Life

If you happen to have the Flipboard apk installed on your device (it is still not available through the Play Store) then you can update it to the newest version through the app. Included in the update is a few behind-the-scenes improvements, which means less battery drain and memory strain. For Foursquare users, we haven’t found the official changelog yet, but will update the post as soon as it is made available. If you have yet to try Flipboard, we have included the apk download link below.

Foursquare and Flipboard Receive Updates, Minor Improvements Added is a post from: Droid Life

Ready to get your Flipboard on? One of the most popular iOS readers has made its way to Android in beta form this afternoon. Some of you may have been running the version that was pulled from the Galaxy SIII a few weeks ago, but this is the official beta version for most phones. The Flipboard has talked about doing this test on Android for some time, as they hope to make the experience as seamless and beautiful as it is on iOS. Let’s see if they accomplished that goal.

Install as you would any other non-Play store app. Once it finishes downloading, tap on it to install.

Be sure to provide them feedback at android-feedback@flipboard.com so that they can constantly improve the app. If you didn’t sign up to test the app, be sure to do so here.

Flipboard Beta Released for Android, Download It Now is a post from: Droid Life

One of the last things we heard from the Galaxy SIII event is that the widely popular iOS app, Flipboard, would be coming to Android with the launch of Samsung’s new phone. It’s a news reader application that adds a certain level of flair by letting you flip through the pages vertically and it comes with a very slick animation as well. While we were excited to wait for its launch for Android when the Galaxy SIII hit stores, today’s news that the APK has been leaked is even better. XDA user Valcho somehow came across the official application and has it available for everyone to download at the link below. All you have to do is allow the installation of non-market apps in your settings and you are good to go.
