The DROID RAZR HD by Motorola is starting to appear in Cellebrite systems for 3rd party retailers, giving us at least some sort of a sign that the phone is still on the way. Previously codenamed the DROID Fighter, we thought that this phone would have been out by now (previous targeted release dates), but Verizon and Motorola seem to be taking their sweet time. Other than this being in Cellebrite systems, we can’t take much else from it except the model number of XT926 which matches up to previous sightings.

According to benchmarks, pictures of the phone, and other back alley rumors, we are expecting the RAZR HD to have around a 4.6″ HD (720p) display, on-screen navigation keys, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 12 or 13MP camera, Ice Cream Sandwich, and 4G LTE. Think of it as the ultimate RAZR, assuming it has the MAXX’s 3300mAh battery.

I know that Motorola still gets plenty of hate from the developer community, but I’ve got to admit that I’m pretty excited about this device. After seeing what they have done to Blur and Android 4.0, and then imagining that with an HD screen, beast processor, top notch camera, and on-screen soft keys, how could you not be?

The Samsung Galaxy SIII and its arrival in the U.S. is a huge deal, but for whatever reason, I get the feeling that everyone is also eagerly awaiting the DROID RAZR HD by Motorola. While most details have avoided us thus far, the original RAZR and RAZR MAXX have been big enough successes that an HD variant will likely draw in some long time Moto fans. Thanks to an event held by Motorola China, we have fresh pictures of 3 devices coming in June that give us a bit of an idea as to what we can expect with the RAZR HD here in the States.

Currently codenamed the “DROID Fighter” and headed to Verizon, we have only seen one picture of the device at this point. It looks exactly like the phones you are seeing above though, with on-screen navigation keys, same RAZR styling, and Ice Cream Sandwich. The source that took these pictures did claim that these phones only have qHD screens, but that is sure to change when the phone arrives here or that “HD” tag on the end of its name won’t make any sense. The thickness is right around 9mm, which would lead us to believe that Motorola is packing in its 3300mAh battery. Other than that, it’s the same wide body, hump on the top, and kevlar backing.

Is the RAZR HD your next phone?

It has been over a month since we were last treated to a DROID RAZR HD sighting. Thanks to leaks out of China, we were able to take a peak at a device that was once codenamed the “Fighter” that looked a heck of a lot like previous RAZR releases. Well, except for the HD screen and on-screen soft keys. Thanks to China again this morning, we have pictures of a similar device with model number MT887 which is almost identical to what we will see here in the U.S. The device has that same HD screen and on-screen keys along with Ice Cream Sandwich. If you were wondering how Motorola would do the on-screen soft keys deal, this would be it. Thankfully they did not take the Samsung approach and change the order of them.

What else do we know about the RAZR HD? Along with the HD screen, we will likely also see a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip inside clocked at 1.5GHz, 12 or 13MP camera, 3300mAh battery from the MAXX, and 4G LTE. And yes, I agree with what you are about to type – this should have been the original RAZR from day 1. We didn’t need 3 or 4 renditions before we got here.

A series of photos from a Motorola employee has surfaced on Picasa within the last few days, leaving us to believe that the rumored DROID Fighter may end up as the DROID RAZR HD when it launches. The EXIF data attached mentions the name specifically, while also confirming a previously rumored codename of “Vanquish.” The rear camera on the phone will have a f2.4 aperture (same as the iPhone 4S) and is rumored to be able to shoot upwards of 13MP photos, just like some of Motorola’s late 2011 Chinese releases. It also looks as if the phone will run Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, hence the “4.0.3″ mentioned in the software version.

Is this the RAZR-esque device that was spotted in China back in March? It certainly seems like it will be. “HD” would refer to the HD screen that it will carry. Attaching that to “RAZR” only makes sense, as it appears that Moto is fully buying into the rebirth of the RAZR brand. We already have a “MAXX” so “HD” seems like the likely next choice.

A release date for the phone is completely unknown. We had seen a couple of targeted dates by Verizon, but those passed by without a peep.

While this device remains a complete mystery, one thing is certain, Motorola is going to play out this RAZR styling of phones until the end. In the latest leak of a Moto product out of China, we have a device that looks somewhat similar to the DROID Fighter we saw last weekend, only it’s missing branding, appears to have hardware soft keys and one of the bigger chins in recent history. The Mfunz and Phone HK threads that they were posted in mention the word “Blade” as a potential name. It’s tough to tell if that was a Google translation from “razr” or is actually the name. After “RAZR,” the name “Blade” would certainly fit the scheme of things, especially with such similar styling.

So on the front we have what appears to be a massive screen and camera. It does look like there is room for hardware soft keys though, rather than the on-screen versions we believe we see on the Fighter. The back side contains the kevlar covering that has become standard, however, it runs almost edge-to-edge unlike the current RAZR models. The rear camera is “HD” and could be 13MP, like similar HD devices from Motorola in China. From the side, this phone appears to be about as thick as the RAZR MAXX, so it’s probably safe to assume it packs a similar 3300mAh battery inside.

Thoughts?

We have been talking about this mysterious phone that is headed to Verizon called the DROID Fighter for about a month now. Dirty details have escaped us for the most part other than a potential release date of April 12. Some had speculated that it would end up as a Motorola device, but with the crazy number of phones they released over the last 6 months, it was tough to believe that they could possibly be back with more. In the end, it looks like they may be after all.

Notorious Moto phone leaking forum Phone HK posted up a photo this weekend that they are referring to as the DROID Fighter, made by Motorola. As you can see, the phone looks almost identical to the DROID RAZR except for one major change – the bottom row of soft keys appears to be gone. Included with this picture was a spec that read “4.6-inch HD” screen, leading us to believe that this phone will have on-screen soft keys just like the Galaxy Nexus.

As you may recall, the Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65″ screen, but .35″ of that is for the on-screen keys, so for the most part it’s a 4.3″ screen. Now, those keys will hide at certain times or with specific apps (like Youtube) so that you can experience more screen real estate. This Fighter phone with its 4.6″ screen could easily be allocating .3″ to on-screen keys. It’s an amazing concept that we wish all phone manufacturers would adopt. To see Moto make the move is exciting, especially after the issues many of you had with the hefty chin and bezel that was included on the RAZR.

What else can we gather? Well, “HD” screen is new for Motorola in the U.S. We went hands on with their Chinese HD RAZRs back at CES and figured they would make the move to our shores at some point. The HD screens that Moto used in these two devices is something beautiful, so this phone should be grabbing your attention.

There was also a mention of it having the 3300mAh battery that the RAZR MAXX has.

What I’m struggling to understand though, is why release another RAZR variant? This would be the third version in about 6 months time. Sure, the upgraded HD screen is nice, and the idea that it will also have Ice Cream Sandwich at launch is fun, but couldn’t this have been the RAZR MAXX? Just like the RAZR MAXX should have been the RAZR?

Oh and another random thought to ponder – if this phone is coming in April, anyone willing to bet that it is Moto’s first ICS phone before any of their current lineup sees an update? I’d put money on that.

Full shot below. Thoughts?

A couple of weeks ago, we first reported two new devices that were headed to Verizon as the LG Cayman and DROID Fighter. That report included the same dates you are seeing above of 3/29 for the Cayman and 4/12 for the Fighter, but were then only listed as “workshop” times rather than release dates. According to new information that we received, those are indeed targeted release dates.

We should point out that the LG Cayman is likely the Lucid 4G that we reported on last night. The DROID Fighter is still a mystery for now.

You will also see the HTC Fireball listed without a date, a device that our sources are now referring to as the Incredible 4G. A device by the name of Samsung Plato is listed as well, and is one we haven’t seen mentioned since last August. Knowing that it was rumored all of the way back then, we would be surprised if this was anything other than a mid-range device. Then again, “Plato” would be a nice codename for a Galaxy type device.

While Verizon was quiet during MWC (which they almost always are), they do still have plans for the next couple of months. The first part of March could be slow unless they decide to drop the Incredible 4G on is within the next couple of weeks.

Cheers ___!

Verizon has been quiet since CES with their plans to release new devices, but we may now know a couple of them that have been kept under wraps. According to sources of ours, a device called the DROID Fighter and LG Cayman are on the way and could be here within the next two months.

There is no way to tell if this “DROID Fighter” is Motorola, Samsung or HTC by this screenshot. It could be the new Incredible-esque device from HTC that leaked a week or two ago and that we assumed was the HTC Fireball. Or it could be another release from Motorola, although we have yet to hear of anything in the works that would be out by April. A follow-up to the DROID Charge? Eh, not sure.

The LG Cayman could be on the low-end since they just released the Spectrum, but shouldn’t be written off just yet. Every other device on this list is by no means on the “low-end,” so we’ll have to hold off from speculating too much until we have more details.

We should point out that this is not a release date list, so you shouldn’t necessarily target 3/29 for the Cayman and 4/12 for the Fighter. They are Thursdays though, and you and I know that Big Red loves to release phones on Thursdays.

Digging for more…

Cheers ___!
