Today, Falcon Pro got a nice update to version 1.9. Inside, you will find a brand new font (although it’s still Roboto-based), position holding for lists, and the awesome option to set the action bar on the bottom of the display. Along with the new features, there were some bugs that needed squashing, including the one where the DashClock extension wasn’t refreshing. Consider it now squashed.

Falcon Pro has become a dominant 3rd party Twitter app and you still haven’t picked it up, you should do so soon.

Everyone’s favorite 3rd party Twitter app, Falcon Pro is receiving a bump up to version 1.8 today, bringing a healthy list of new features and improvements. Most of the bigger additions are for starred Twitter profiles, allowing users to receive notifications every time they create a tweet.

In addition, translations are now available in various languages, image loading speeds have been improved and a ton more. For the full changelog, check below.

Falcon Pro Receives Update, New Starred Features and Plenty of Improvements is a post from: Droid Life

Back in August, Twitter decided that third party clients that replicate its core features (home timeline, direct messages, etc.) were not necessarily great for business going forward. As a business that has a mega-value yet can’t seem to figure out that whole profitability thing, they decided that maybe apps that were being used in place of their official were part of the problem. As such, they set a 100,000 limit for the number of tokens (sort of like an individual user) that can be allotted to 3rd party apps. Unfortunately for upstarts like our beloved Falcon Pro, that limit can be reached quite easily. In fact, last night, Falcon Pro hit their 100K token limit and can no longer add new users. 

You can imagine how this could put quite the damper on development for an app that is just getting started. Users who buy the app are left without the ability to actually sign-in, which in turn leads to poor reviews, complaints about the dev, a need for refunds, and so fourth. For now, the developer has added a note to the app listing, so that people aren’t buying it going forward. Obviously, this doesn’t work long term, especially for someone trying to make a living off of their app.

So until they can figure out a way to convince Twitter that their app offers something unique and does not simply copy the core values of Twitter, they can’t get this 100K limit lifted and are stuck in a very difficult place.

Oh, did we mention that of the 100K, that 40K are active installs, which means a whole bunch were taken by people who either pirated the app or installed, took a token and then never opened it again? If you aren’t using the app, you’ll find instructions down below to revoke access, something you should seriously consider if Falcon isn’t your Twitter app of choice.

Falcon Pro is not the first to have this happen. Tweet Lanes, another popular Android Twitter client decided to cut development once they realized that they could not move passed the 100K limit. Popular Windows 8 app Tweetro hit the limit and was unable to have it lifted, even though Twitter doesn’t even offer a Twitter client on Windows 8.

So what can you do? Well, a couple of things.

1. If you aren’t using Falcon Pro, GIVE UP YOUR TOKEN. From a PC browser, head to Twitter.com and select Settings>Apps, find Falcon Pro and “Revoke Access” to the app. That should free up a token that you aren’t using for someone else.
2. If you flash ROMs with regularity, be careful. There are reports that after flashing, you are left without access. Titanium Backups of the app may still work, though.
3. A petition has been started, though I’m not sure what it can do. Here it is.
4. Follow @falcon_android for the latest.

Falcon Pro Twitter Client Reaches 100K Token Limit is a post from: Droid Life

Earlier in the week, we first reported on a new app from Android Engineer Roman Nurik called DashClock. Since that report, it seems to have taken the Android app world by storm, prompting all sorts of praise and a hope for future compatibility from other top apps. In case you missed the mention in that article, an API for the app is available for other developers to use to build out “extensions” from their apps that can be used in DashClock.

Today, one of the first major apps to build out such support is Falcon Pro. In today’s update to the popular Twitter app, an extension for DashClock was included. As you can see in the image above, the extension shows you an unread Tweet count that when tapped, opens up Falcon Pro.

• Battery Extension:  Shows your current battery percentage and whether or not you are charging.

Carbon for Twitter is finally available on Android. Yes, on Super Bowl Sunday, the longest delayed Twitter app in history has been released to Google Play – and it’s free. After a few minutes with it, I can easily say that this is one of the better designed apps we have seen. It’s ultra fast, utilizes gestures for navigation, and includes almost all of the features I look for in a Twitter app. Is it better than Falcon Pro, you ask? I’ll let you decide that. What I will say, is that it has a lot going for it.

Here is the list of features:

• Power Scroll: Scroll/Swipe up or down using Two fingers to jump to top or bottom of Timelines
• Tap+Hold on Tweets to make everything clickable right on the Timeline

Google Play offers thousands of different applications and games to choose from, so without getting lost looking through countless pages of apps, allow us to drop some knowledge on you.

These are our top 10 recommendations to get you started with Android. 

1.  Chrome (free):

Earlier this year, Google released Chrome for Android and changed the way folks were using their Internet browsers. With Chrome, your mobile device and desktop computer’s tabs/browsing history can be perfectly synced, allowing for a fantastic browsing experience while on the go. Were you looking up that perfect spot for lunch on your desktop and forgot the name while on your way? Chrome has you covered. It’s free on Google Play and is always the first app we suggest to new Android users.

2.  Falcon Pro ($0.99):

Our love for the Falcon Pro app for Twitter is well known in these parts. We even did a full review on the app just to inform the masses of its existence. What makes the app so great is the user experience. The app is built amazingly well and offers up a very smooth, yet easy-to-navigate experience. It features swipe controls that help you go through your different feeds, which allows you to only see and read what you want. When it comes to Twitter apps, Falcon Pro rules the roost.

3.  SwiftKey 3 Keyboard ($1.99):

For Android users, having a third party keyboard can be a major plus. There are a lot of different options out there and we have found that SwiftKey 3 (especially the new beta, Flow) takes the cake. As for me, I type extremely fast, so I need a keyboard whose auto correct I can actually rely on. The app also offers up a ton of customization options such as themes, layout options, and more. To top that off, it offers usage statistics that show you your typing efficiency and things of that nature. Definitely worth the price.

4.  Instagram (free):

Instagram makes our list given that we feel it to be the “perfect social network.” None of those silly status updates – just pictures that give you a peak into the lives of those you care about. And of course, you can follow some celebs if you are so inclined. You can always check out Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr as well.

5.  Nova Launcher (free):

Custom launchers are one of the many things that makes Android great. If you aren’t happy with the stock home experience, you can change it! What makes Nova our go-to launcher is that we simply love the performance and customization options. Once applied, it gives you the ability to use custom icons, adjust grid sizes, change home screen transitions, manipulate the app drawer, and so much more. If there was something in your stock home experience that you weren’t enjoying, Nova likely has a fix. Also, if you’re looking for a good custom icon pack, check our Lustre and Tersus from Google Play.

6.  Snapseed (free):

Snapseed is relatively new to Android, but it has already become one of our new favorites. Previously only available for iOS devices, it is award-winning photo editing software that puts many other “filter apps” to complete shame. With swipe controls that put you in command of some powerful editing tools, you can turn your silly smartphone pictures into works of art. Once you are done editing your pictures, you can easily share them to your favorite social network or save them to your device. What makes it even better is that it is completely free.

7.  Games (Granny Smith, Need for Speed: Most Wanted):

Okay, we couldn’t narrow it down to just a single game, so we will give you two to get started. For starters, if you know anything about us, you will know we love Granny Smith. We named it our top game of 2012 and for good reason – it’s addictive! To start, it’s nice and easy and then evolves into a game that can become frustrating and extremely difficult, all while being completely enjoyable to play. It’s priced at $1.99, but is a game that we can’t get enough of. Secondly, we have Need For Speed: Most Wanted. To put it simply, it’s the best driving game on Android. Period. For having tilt controls and some touchscreen controls, the game plays extremely well. The graphics are insanely sweet, but it does come paired with a high $5.99 price tag. Act quick and you can still get it on sale for $0.99.

8.  AppSales (free):

This app is fantastic. It’s sole purpose is to save you money on the apps you want. Everyday, AppSales is updated to show which apps on Google Play are currently on sale. From using this app, I’ve easily saved $10 on apps/games, which is a win in my book. Definitely install this one if you’re big into buying content for your device.

9.  Beautiful Widgets ($2.50)

Beautiful Widgets has been around since the beginning, and it’s always on our list of recommendations for new Android users. With the newest updates the app has received, it has blossomed into an amazing widget application, with a literal ton of different options to choose from. Once one of the widgets is applied to your homescreen, you can see the time, current weather reports for your location or another location, dates, and access your alarms all from your homescreen. There isn’t a single option you can’t customize, which allows users to make a widget that fits their device and lifestyle with relative ease. The app runs a couple of dollars, but it could be some of the best money you spend in a long time.

10.  Dropbox (free):

Being able to have all of your important files/media on the go is important to everyone, not just Android users. With Dropbox, you have a safe place to store your important photos, videos, work files, and everything else that you don’t want stored on your device. Dropbox is one of the must-have apps for any Android user.

The below listed apps didn’t make our top 10, but they certainly deserve a mention. Some are apps for getting work done, and the others are games that will help you waste that extra time you have. Either way, these are just a few more apps that we can’t live without as Android users.

Top 10 Apps For Your New Android Device is a post from: Droid Life

Over the weekend, Falcon Pro, a Twitter client for Android devices, left beta testing and was released to the Google Play store as version 1.0. Initially launching as a widget, there were enough requests to turn it into a full blown app, that the developer obliged. After spending just a couple of days with it, and while exchanging feature requests with the developer, I can easily say that this is my new favorite Twitter app. 

The best part about Falcon Pro, is the gesture swiping from left to right. With a quick swipe from the left, you can access your timeline, mentions, DMs, favorites, initiate a search, or tweak settings. With a quick swipe from the right, you can access all of your lists, see what’s trending on Twitter, and find local hot topics. It’s so simple, yet so incredibly polished, that you almost wonder what every other Twitter developer has been doing.

It also allows you to view media in your timeline and access a built-in browser so that you don’t have to constantly leave and re-enter the app. But beyond all of the features, the app looks fantastic. It’s minimal, but incredibly fluid and smooth. It has a big future ahead of it as well, since themes, better notification controls, and standard Twitter functions (Ex: deleting, better conversations, and muting) have yet to be included.

For $1.03, you won’t find a better deal on an Android app.

Review: Falcon Pro for Android, the New King of Twitter Apps is a post from: Droid Life

If you’re an avid Twitter fiend like we helplessly are, then be sure to check out Falcon. With this app, you control your timeline and whole account from a single widget, which actually works better than a full app for the most part. With the ability to place it on any homescreen, and even on the lockscreen if you’re running Android 4.2+, you see your full timeline as well as mentions, with options to see your messages, view trends, and also see lists. Why it’s taken me so long to get into Falcon, I don’t know.
